But Naruko knew that, despite most of the Uchiha being arrogant assholes, a very few of them were actually stupid. And Fugaku was not one of them. But then again Naruko knew her weakness. So she decided to keep a direct eye on the situation to remain in control.

The council meeting

The sun appeared behind the hokage mountain as the tension in the village slowly started to disperse. Obviously during this time both the higher ups of the village as well as the Uchiha clan were going through their own troubles.

The higher ups of the village were Uchiha clan's direct or indirect involvement in the attack.

And on the other hand, the Uchiha clan was doubting that the village was somehow plotting against them. The major members of the Uchiha Clan, who have awakened Sharingans, were in the Naka shrine, holding their final meeting for the Coup d'etat, when that incident happened. The first thing that put the clan on edge was that Shisui Uchiha did not attend the meeting. He had personally promised Fugaku to attend the meeting. But he never showed up. Fugaku, simply believing that Shisui might have been on the side of the village all along, decided to continue without him. But in the middle of the meeting they heard the sound of an explosion before getting struck by a mild earthquake. Despite the village claiming that it was an external enemy, the Uchiha clan remained sceptical and didn't make any move outright.

As sunrise happened in the east Sky, Hiruzen felt like he was getting older with every passing minute. The results of the initial investigation were out and it was disappointing for Hiruzen.

"So, all we know about this masked woman is that she could take out even seasoned jounins within and blink of an eye with just taijutsu….." Hiruzen sighed.

"There is no doubt about it. She is a kage level shinobi."

But unknown to Hiruzen, Danzo, with his bandaged ass, was sweating bullets.

After regaining his ability to walk, Danzo had moved meticulously and had gotten the damage report from his personal root operatives before Hiruzen. The root operatives outside the root base have already dug out the dead bodies of the operatives which were buried under the collapsed facility and had checked their memories.

And what they found was unsettling for Danzo. The woman who had infiltrated the root base, only targeted the shinobi on the shortest route to the secret archives. And the way they encountered her one after another it was clear that she knew where she was going. Danzo was so paranoid that except for him, not even a single root operative knew about the exact route to the secret archive. Even the operatives which guard those areas didn't know about the full layout. From that fact alone, Danzo understood one thing. The enemy knew everything about him. And that alone made him cross out the Uchiha completely out of his personal suspect list.

If the Uchiha Clan would have been so capable, then they would never have been pushed to their current state by them alone. Even someone with Byakugan would not find his way to the archives since even the outer layer of the tunnel was full of seals to block the Byakugan.

For the first time Danzo was nervous. The archives did not only have many pairs of Sharingans, but also a lot of dirty documents that Danzo had kept hidden for different purposes.

And if someone found them, and exposed them to the hidden leaf village, then he very much might just get executed by the village itself. Best case scenario, he might be able to flee with his hopes of becoming the hokage crushed.

"Hiruzen…. No matter what, we cannot let this foe get the better of us. We will have to unite and face this threat together." Danzo said seriously.

"I agree. But we will need to give the council something to focus on and forget about this. We need them to calm down. We have tried to keep this news inside the village as much as possible. But sooner or later it would reach outside. And by that time if we do not stabilize the village then it will only spell deshamster for us." Hiruzen spoke tiredly. In that room it was only him and Danzo. They have not bothered to call the other two elders and disturb their date.

"What are you thinking so much about ? Just tell them that it was a secret underground lab of Orochimaru. Only the western wing of root headquarters is destroyed. I am ready to sacrifice the Eastern wing of root headquarters. Then you can simply launch a thorough cleanup mission and claim to discover another hidden base to satisfy the village.

Instead of worrying about this matter, we should be more worried about how to deal with this mysterious attacker." Danzo told Hiruzen.

The two of them discussed different strategies and possibilities for the entire morning until both of them had to leave for the council meeting.

"Father…. I believe I have some information that you should listen to." Itachi appeared in front of Fugaku in the morning, just before the sunrise. Shisui had told him about the masked woman and how only he and the other dead root agents knew about her existence. Shisui wanted to make his death a suicide. But Itachi has different plans. He had already destroyed the suicide note that Shisui had given to him. After the death of Shisui, Itachi didn't come back to the village immediately. He had stayed outside the village for a while to deal with his own chaotic emotions. After that he had thoroughly investigated the attack on the village while disguised as a regular chunin. After observing everything he had come up with a story that would give both the village and the clan an external enemy to focus on.

Fugaku, on the other hand, looked at his son with skepticism. Itachi had already shown behaviour of standing against the clan. That's why he didn't trust his own son. But this time seeing the serious expression, Fugaku decided to entertain him.

"What do you want to talk about ?"

"It is the death of Shisui and the attack on the village." Itachi spoke his first sentence. And from that point no matter what, Fugaku couldn't ignore him.

"I wanted to report this to the hokage first. But then I realised something that might be very important for the survival of our Clan. That's why I am here first." After hearing it, Fugaku couldn't hold back anymore. He immediately stood up from his seat and turned towards Itachi.

"We should discuss it in private." Itachi spoke, looking straight into Fugaku's eyes.

Seeing the mangekyou sharingan in his son's eyes, Fugaku understood how severe the situation was.

"Follow me." Turning around, Fugaku led Itachi to the basement of their house.

Upon reaching the hidden room, Fugaku turned around again and looked at Itachi.

"Yesterday just as I completed my mission outside the village, Shisui's summon crow appeared beside me with an urgent message. The message said that Shisui was in danger.

I immediately followed the crow to reach Shisui.

But by the time I found him, both of his legs from waist down were missing. His eyes were gouged out. He couldn't even speak and was barely alive. At that moment I awakened these eyes….." Itachi paused for a moment.

Fugaku, hearing his son, drew a sharp breath.

"His body was covered with multiple trap explosive tags…..

Upon hearing my voice, Shisui used his last bit of Chakra to cast an incomplete genjutsu to warn me about an unknown enemy…..

It was a woman with a warring era battle armour, red faceless mask and long black hair.

She destroyed elite jounins as if they were nothing but genins. Genjutsu invoked by Sharingan didn't even affect her. She even cut through the defense of Susanoo like butter. Even with his mangekyou sharingan, Shisui couldn't even resist her."
