Chapter 43: Akira vs Otsutsuki patriarch II
A heavy silence settled between the two fighters, only disturbed by the wind blowing over the devastated battlefield, as the patriarch spoke.
"Tell me, Akira, do you believe in the existence of a god?"
Akira did not answer, remembering the reason he found himself in this world. Instead of replying, he retorted sarcastically, "I didn't know the patriarch of the Otsutsuki clan was a devout believer."
"I see," murmured the patriarch, before tearing out his right eye and eating it, to Akira's shocked gaze.
"You've gone mad," Akira said with a mocking smile.
But before he could finish his sentence, a sudden pressure struck him. Looking up, he realized the patriarch had vanished. A voice then echoed, "Yet you should believe."
Akira had no time to react before the patriarch reappeared before him, a golden eye with six tomoe on his forehead. His fist came crashing violently into Akira's stomach. Akira spat out a stream of blood, thrown back with phenomenal force. His body crashed against a building, creating a cloud of dust. When visibility returned, Akira was seen struggling to emerge from the rubble.
"What was that? I'm sure I activated Limitless," thought Akira, his hand pressed against his bloody stomach.
"It seems you're bringing out all the stops," he quipped sarcastically, trying to mask his pain.
"In that case, die for your damn god!" roared Akira as he propelled himself towards him.
In a second, he closed the distance between them, his fist slicing through the air with lightning speed. But the patriarch easily parried the blow, blocking the attack with his forearm. He then immediately retaliated with a right straight to the solar plexus, the impact so violent that Akira spat out saliva. Spinning around, he delivered a circular kick that the patriarch blocked by crossing his arms, but the attack made him step back, leaving marks on the ground.
Without wasting a moment, Akira then unleashed his purple reverse technique. The purple energy hit the patriarch head-on, creating a deafening sonic boom. However, when the smoke cleared, the patriarch emerged unscathed, his gaze shining with a menacing aura. He then lunged at Akira, grabbing his face and slamming him violently to the ground.
Akira grimaced from the impact but gritted his teeth. Taking advantage of the close range, he then exploded a wave of energy from his palm, pushing the patriarch back. Springing to his feet, Akira suddenly appeared before his opponent, whispering "Black Lightning" before launching his strike.
The attack hit the patriarch head-on, making him spit out blood as he crashed into a nearby building. All the witnesses to the scene were mesmerized, absorbed by this exchange of blows of unprecedented violence.
Akira took a few moments to catch his breath, his body covered in bruises and lacerations. The patriarch slowly emerged from the rubble, his golden eye shining with a threatening glow.
Advancing towards Akira, the patriarch's impassive face betrayed no emotion. Despite the devastation caused all around by their previous confrontation, he seemed completely unscathed, without a single injury.
Stopping a few meters from Akira, he spoke in a calm yet firm tone, "Did you know that God's orders are absolute?"
Akira glared at him, "I don't give a damn about your god!" he spat.
The patriarch nodded slowly, as if expecting that response. "In that case, I should pluck out your eyes for your insolence," he declared, now standing right in front of Akira, his left hand outstretched.
Sensing the danger, Akira activated his Limitless. But to his surprise, the patriarch pierced through this barrier effortlessly as his fist clenched. Akira stepped back in shock.
"You must be wondering how this is possible," the patriarch said, his left hand now covered in blood.
Akira panted, blood flowing from his left eye, having lost it without even realizing.
"Now that you've lost an eye, why not give up?" the patriarch almost condescendingly suggested.
Gritting his teeth, Akira refused to show his frustration. "I do plan to give up," he said as he summoned the belthegus sword, "but it will be when I have your head!" he retorted with a smile despite the loss of his eye. He then took his stance.
