Chapter 84: Chapter 84: A New Experiment
After Kirito and the others returned Mizuki to Konoha, Tsunade immediately had him sent to the interrogation room, hoping to extract information about Orochimaru.
Unfortunately, all they could glean was the location of an abandoned Orochimaru base. The only notable item found there was a "strengthening liquid" that granted power at the cost of the user's life. Other than that, there was nothing of value.
Learning that Mizuki was nothing more than an expendable pawn for Orochimaru, Naruto was deeply disappointed. He had hoped for a lead on Sasuke or Orochimaru, but the information fell short. From that day onward, he pestered Tsunade daily to let him leave the village to search for Sasuke and Orochimaru. Though frustrated, Tsunade could only sigh at his persistence.
Meanwhile, Kirito had been staying in his dormitory, meditating and waiting. The room was silent enough to hear a pin drop when a pitch-black space door opened without warning.
With his sky-blue Rinnegan glowing on his forehead, Kirito stepped through the portal, his bare upper body quickly clothed in a vest and coat as he crossed over. Now back in the familiar setting of his dormitory, he closed his Rinnegan and turned to his wooden clone, who was meditating on the floor. The clone, sensing the presence of the original, opened its eyes.
"Impressive," the wooden clone said. "If I hadn't seen you, I wouldn't have noticed your return."
Kirito smiled faintly. "The Otsutsuki's chakra-shielding techniques are quite effective."
He reached up to touch Little Leopard, perched motionlessly on his shoulder.
"Since you're back, my job is done," the clone said, standing and walking toward Kirito. Without hesitation, it merged seamlessly into the main body.
Good, Boruto and Sasuke's return went smoothly, Kirito thought, as the clone's memories flooded into him.
The integration of a wooden clone worked similarly to a shadow clone, but with one key difference: the wooden clone required physical merging to transfer its experiences. However, it was far more durable and versatile than a shadow clone.
After confirming that everything was in order, Kirito sat down on his bed, lifted Little Leopard from his shoulder, and held it in his hands. The creature's Rinnegan remained tightly shut, as though it hadn't awakened. But Kirito, deeply connected to it, knew that Little Leopard was constantly aware of its surroundings.
Since devouring Urashiki, Little Leopard, once as serene and detached as Kirito, had developed a subtle yet insistent hunger. Though manageable, its restlessness could only be calmed by Kirito's presence.
Good thing I stayed in World Governance to keep it company. Otherwise, it might have destroyed the place, Kirito thought with a shiver, recalling the chaos of Little Leopard's awakening.
In its frenzied hunger, the creature had devoured everything in sight—cars, trees, fences, even glass and cement—like a black hole. Kirito had only managed to calm it by channeling his emotions through their bond. If he hadn't, the confrontation would have been disastrous.
Little Leopard squirmed slightly in his hand, its tail swaying like a paddle. Kirito chuckled and returned it to his shoulder.
Finally, all the major troubles are over. It's time to relax.
Kirito had originally planned to spend his free time watching movies but hadn't anticipated the aftermath of Urashiki's defeat dragging on for so long. To ensure no disruptions, his wooden clone had requested time off from Guy in the name of Tsunade's training.
I wonder if Guy's team is still in the village. Kirito activated his Byakugan and scanned the area but found no trace of his teammates—not even Naruto.
Since no one's here, I might as well work on my new techniques, he decided.
Kirito had long aspired to create a new Kekkei Genkai, one that didn't exist in the original timeline. With no pressing tasks at hand, he headed to an empty training ground to experiment.
He knew that Kekkei Genkai were formed by combining two chakra natures and wanted to push the boundaries by fusing elements in novel ways. Previously, he had succeeded in blending fire and earth by using earth as a container for fire's destructive nature. Now, he aimed to replicate that success, this time using lightning as the container.
At the deserted training ground, Kirito stretched out his palm, summoning crackling lightning chakra.
Zzzzzt! The sound of thousands of chirping birds filled the air as Kirito formed Kakashi's signature technique—Chidori. The dazzling lightning crackled fiercely in his hand.
Focusing, he began to channel flames into the lightning. The fire swirled around the lightning, attempting to merge.
Boom! The chakra in his hand exploded with a deafening roar, scorching the grass and leaving charred holes in the ground.
This method won't work. Let's try another approach, Kirito thought, brushing off the failure.
Switching tactics, he attempted a more conceptual approach. Drawing inspiration from Urashiki's memories, he sought to blend the chakras directly, using their ideal properties rather than brute force.
Through careful manipulation, he merged fire and lightning into a golden orb of chakra.
Boom! The orb exploded again, scattering debris across the training ground.
It worked, but I need better control. Kirito realized that while the fusion had succeeded, his lack of stability caused the technique to collapse.
Undeterred, Kirito spent hours refining his technique. The muffled booms of his experiments echoed through the training ground until the sun dipped below the horizon. By then, the ground was littered with scorch marks and craters, but Kirito felt closer to achieving his goal.
Chakra truly is an art of imagination. I just need to sharpen my focus.
As the final rays of sunlight faded, Kirito decided to call it a day, already looking forward to his next attempt.
