Chapter 26: 26. Unexpected Situation
(28/100... Gimme all your property)
**Time: Unknown**
"When will that idiot come? We were supposed to complete that part today," she sighed.
She was really going to beat some sense into him today, no matter what happened.
Her phone? Phone-like device rang.
She looked at it and tapped on the device once.
A hologram appeared from the rectangular object, and her eyes widened when she read its contents.
"Fuck, no... NO!" She got up from the chair and took a deep breath.
"I should have listened to that suggestion about someone out there who might try to kill us," she clenched her fist tightly.
Tears could be seen hitting the ground.
"Hahahahah," she started laughing.
---
**Time: Just after the fight with Pakura and Roshi**
"Damn, I'm tired. That was interesting," Yukio put his hands behind his head.
He really was tired.
"You really did nothing except annoy people," Miyuki smirked.
"That's how I fight. I see no problem in that."
"Hehe, I don't either, I like it too," Miyuki giggled and continued walking.
'I wonder if I will ever see him again, but...' Miyuki mused internally.
"So, what are you thinking? Do you like doing a sad monologue or something? Is that your new tactic to stand out?" Yukio asked.
"What do you mean, sad monologue? Does it show on my face?" Miyuki instantly became self-conscious.
She was a damn jounin. If she could be read this easily, it was concerning.
"Nah, I could just tell," Yukio guessed what she was thinking.
"I see," Miyuki sighed.
"You really should tell me. I might be able to help you. It's not like there are any secrets between us," Yukio said, putting money into the vending machine, taking out a cold drink, and starting to sip it.
Drinking something cold after a long battle or training was really refreshing.
"Hmm, I guess I should be more frank with you. Yukio, do you believe in reincarnation?" Miyuki instantly asked the question that popped into her mind.
She wasn't supposed to say her thoughts so easily, but it was also kind of a test.
Yukio choked on his drink and coughed.
He then looked at Miyuki, who was eyeing him suspiciously, "So?"
"Well, I guess it probably exists, as there's a thing called the Reaper Death Seal, so souls can be sealed, but I don't know when it happens," Yukio gave a low-ball answer.
"Hmm, I guess," Miyuki was satisfied with that answer.
"Anyway, I'll pick up Yumi, I guess," Yukio disappeared in a body flicker.
Miyuki remained suspicious of Yukio's reaction.
---
**Time: ???**
'Ugh, what happened? Why does my head hurt?' Yukio opened his eyes and looked at the familiar ceiling.
He got up from the bed.
'Did I drink alcohol? Let's try to remember what happened. After running away from Miyuki, I went to pick up Yumi, who really liked Sasuke, although the latter didn't really like the former, so it was funny to see their interaction,' Yukio chuckled while stretching.
'Then, I trained Yumi a bit, did some Fuinjutsu, and slept,' Yukio's recollection ended there.
He opened the door and went downstairs.
'My body feels weird too. Did my height increase by a few inches last night, or am I really out of it?' Yukio shook his head.
Maybe he got high from drinking water or something.
He feels like he's drunk if he eats too much sugary food and drinks a lot of water.
Maybe he woke up at midnight, ate some ice cream, and pulled an Akimichi last night.
It was within the realm of possibilities.
'Hmm, is Yumi cooking something? I'll have to watch out for poison again,' Yukio sighed.
Living with someone who was trying to kill you was difficult.
He really wondered why he thought it would be an interesting idea to bring her to Konoha and let her live with him.
Yukio was surprised when he saw that Yumi wasn't cooking.
He unconsciously blurted out, at the absurdity of the situation, "Wait, you can cook?"
"What do you mean by that? I obviously can," Miyuki pouted.
No, Yukio wasn't shocked that Miyuki could cook; he knew she could, albeit not very well.
He was shocked at the fact that Miyuki seemed to have aged a few years.
'Damn, her body has developed so much. Wait, that's not the point. Don't stare at anything other than her face,' Yukio reminded himself internally.
He didn't want to check out Miyuki now, not when she was directly staring at him.
Yukio had been in various unexpected situations, so he knew how to handle himself.
'Act normal. Don't let your heartbeat quicken. Also, don't activate the Space-Time Sensory field; Miyuki is also a Hiraishin user,' he chanted internally, while outwardly, his face remained unchanged.
"I was just kidding. It's still unusual to see you like this," Yukio said.
He was just lowballing with some predictions.
"I guess it was my turn to cook today if you forgot," Miyuki accepted it for now, turned around, and continued cooking.
"Haha, I guess," Yukio sat down in the chair and naturally looked around his house.
'Damn it, why doesn't this house have any pictures? Also, now that I notice, what's with my chakra reserves? These are absurdly high,' Yukio berated himself internally for not adding any photo frames in the hall.
He was wondering whether to go back to his room to check the photos.
The bell rang.
"I'll check it," Yukio blurted out subconsciously.
He got up and went to check the door.
"Yo guys! I heard you're having a Ramen weekend. So, I'm here!"
'Don't react. Poker face. Don't raise your heartbeat. Don't show any signs of palpitating or anything.' Yukio instantly went into his highest mode of emotional regulation.
He was going beyond his limits; he didn't think this level was possible.
'What would my future self say in this case? Think, Yukio,' his thoughts raced.
"We were waiting for you to come," Yukio rolled his eyes.
"Hehe, I knew it," Kushina entered the house.
Kushina took a seat at the dining table, and Miyuki served the ramen.
"So, what are you guys up to?" Kushina asked while devouring a very large bowl she was given.
It seemed she had a specific bowl here just for her.
Yukio wasn't surprised by that.
"Nothing really, Yukio's just trying to create a new jutsu, and I'm watching him fail," Miyuki smirked.
Everyone giggled at that.
"Yeah, it's such a drag," Yukio said, slurping his noodles.
"What's a drag? Me watching you or you failing?" Miyuki teased with a smile.
"That's for me to know and for you to decide," Yukio smirked.
It seemed it wasn't that hard to act like his future self.
He hadn't changed much, which was kind of a relief and kind of disappointing too.
"Why don't you tell us about yourself? What's been going on in your life, nee-chan?" Yukio threw the ball into Kushina's court.
"Nothing really. Naru-chan went with that perverted old man for training and left poor me all alone," Kushina pouted.
"You've been saying that for almost three years. He should be coming back this month or next," Miyuki rolled her eyes.
'So, Naruto should be around 15. That means Miyuki is 29. Damn, she looks like she's in her twenties. I guess chakra really helps slow down ageing, or maybe there's a technique for that?' Yukio sipped his tea.
"Yeah, I'm excited about that and looking forward to it," Kushina said, finishing the large bowl of ramen.
Yukio didn't question how that bowl's contents fit inside her. He had gotten his answer in childhood.
"Well, I'll go catch up with Mikoto; it's been a while." With that, Kushina left.
Yukio closed the door.
'Still, does that mean I was successful in reviving her? I wonder what method I used. And where's Yumi? She should be 20 now. I guess she probably moved out.' Yukio turned around but was pinned to the door.
A sword was pointed at his neck.
"I was waiting for you to notice. I guess you noticed while we were eating," Yukio commented.
He had found it odd that Miyuki, of all people, hadn't noticed the difference in his demeanour until now.
"You seem really calm for someone in this situation," Miyuki said.
"Well, I'm anything but calm," Yukio replied.
He was kind of feeling excited at the moment.
"Really?" Miyuki asked.
"Yeah, being pinned down by a hot onee-chan has always been my dream," Yukio confessed.
Miyuki just deadpanned.
"You... You really are the same. Did you get swapped with your older self?" Miyuki could tell Yukio was still the same degenerate.
"Yeah, how can you tell?" Yukio asked suspiciously.
"Well, Yukio was experimenting with Hiraishin and spirit possession, and here we are," Miyuki said.
"Oh, I see."
...
"Can you remove the sword from my neck?" Yukio asked Miyuki, who was lost in her own thoughts.
"Hmm, I thought you liked it?" she smirked.
"Well, yeah, but it's kind of boring when I know nothing's gonna happen," Yukio deadpanned.
"Why do you think nothing is going to happen?" Miyuki asked him instead.
"'Cause I know you, duh."
"Tch, I really wanted to tease you, but you didn't rise to the bait," Miyuki said, removing her sword.
Miyuki looked at Yukio, who was uncharacteristically silent, as she was expecting a reply from him.
She saw him intensely staring at her face.
"W-Why do you have those earrings?" Yukio asked, though he already knew the answer.
He had known from day one, but he had been unsure until now—it seemed confirmed.
"Yeah, it's exactly what you think."
"I-I see," Yukio's emotional regulation was faltering.
Both of them were startled as they noticed a disturbance in space-time.
"Well, I don't know if this is changing the timeline or not, so I'll let your future self decide," Yukio heard that last before everything went black for him.
