Chapter 21: CHAPTER 21 - Mastering Shadow Clone Jutsu
The next morning, Hyuga Mirai arrived at the training field at his usual time. It didn't take long before Akimichi Fuu appeared before him with a swift Body Flicker Technique.
"This is the Shadow Clone Jutsu. Don't spread it around. If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me next time during training," Fuu said before quickly vanishing, as though Mirai had some contagious disease.
However, Mirai didn't care about that. He now had the Shadow Clone Technique in his hands and was eager to master it immediately.
He made his way to a secluded training ground he frequented. After activating his Byakugan to ensure no one was around, he unrolled the scroll and began his study. After a moment of careful reading, he murmured thoughtfully, "Unlike the basic Clone Jutsu, the key here is to evenly distribute chakra. You also need to understand the nature of the Shadow Clone; the more clones you create, the more control over chakra you need."
It's easy to split chakra in two, but to divide it into hundreds would be a real test.
"Let's try it," Mirai said, rolling up the scroll and forming the necessary hand signs.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
*Boom!*
A puff of smoke appeared, and to Mirai's surprise, another version of himself stood beside him.
It worked on the first try. Mirai's strong chakra control, honed through his medical ninjutsu, allowed him to succeed right away. Medical ninjutsu requires a much finer control of chakra than basic ninjutsu like the Shadow Clone, so this made sense.
"This feels incredibly real. The chakra replication is so high-quality." Mirai said, as he touched the clone.
The clone also touched its own face and spoke, "It's almost like the real thing. But I can't exert force; if I get hit too hard, I'll dissipate into smoke. That means the Shadow Clone exists in a gaseous state, but not quite solid. It's different from clones formed with techniques like Wood Style or Earth Style."
Mirai nodded in agreement. "Yeah. And since chakra can transfer memories, that's probably tied to spiritual energy. I can research that later. But for now, I need to focus on improving my strength."
"I understand. I'll focus on my medical ninjutsu training," the clone replied, raising its hand.
Since the clone couldn't withstand physical strain, only Mirai's real body could handle that. Meanwhile, the clone would focus on mastering chakra control and refining medical ninjutsu.
Mirai, after parting with his clone, began his own physical training. Punching the training posts, practicing Body Flicker, and moving through various Taijutsu forms like the Bagua Palm, Mirai worked hard, adding weight to increase the intensity.
By midday, he was exhausted, gasping for air. After finishing his lunch, he took a brief rest. Once he regained some energy, he began focusing on chakra control again and practiced the Bagua Palm's Heavenly Spin.
As he refined his chakra control, his progress in mastering this family secret technique accelerated. Mirai was confident that within a half-month, he would have perfected it. But there was a problem: he had to keep it secret from the main family. If they found out, there would be serious consequences. After all, they didn't even allow him the Shadow Clone technique, and they had scrutinized his father's legacy. Their conservative mindset was clear.
By the time the sun set, Mirai ended his training. His clone, having exhausted its chakra, exploded into smoke, bringing with it a wave of memories and mental fatigue.
"Ugh, that doesn't feel great... But the results are definitely worthwhile. It seems my limit is two Shadow Clones for now. To conserve my energy, it's best if I make just one clone to train."
As a medical ninja, Mirai quickly analyzed his situation. If he used two clones for a full day of training, he could eat a big meal and rest afterward, and recover by the next day. But that would be too costly. His savings were running low, and the payment for low-level C-ranked missions wouldn't cover such an expenditure.
With the meager pay from C-ranked missions, especially after the team leader took half and the rest was split between the three of them, Mirai barely made enough for a single meal. Most of his expenses were coming from his savings, and with the constant use of ninja tools, he figured that if he didn't cut back on spending, he'd be broke in three months.
After a brief rest, he dragged his tired body home. There, he would prepare some food so that he could recover and be in good condition for tomorrow's mission.
The next day, Akimichi Fuu's team once again entered the Hokage building. It was another C-ranked mission, though this time it was a different type. Fuu seemed intent on having the team handle various types of tasks to hone their skills.
As usual, the three of them—Mirai, Kurenai, and Kiyo—would devise the plan and carry out the mission. Fuu was there mainly to oversee the mission and ensure nothing went wrong.
Thus, two months passed.
In that time, Fuu's team completed nine C-ranked missions at a rapid pace. They had gone through numerous battles, and even Kurenai had become a competent ninja. The team's coordination had improved to the point where Fuu was now forced to respond seriously.
After the latest mission, Fuu casually told the team, "Take three days off. After that, we'll be preparing for a B-ranked mission. Get ready." With that, he left, leaving the three of them in mild shock.
After Fuu's departure, Kurenai excitedly grabbed Mirai's sleeve. "Mirai-kun, we're finally going to take on a B-ranked mission!"
"Yeah, but Kurenai, B-ranked missions are much more dangerous, with a lot more variables. We have to be extra careful," Mirai said, nodding.
But Kurenai shook her finger playfully and replied, "Leave the planning to you, Mirai-kun. I trust your judgment completely!"
"Don't discuss this on the streets!" Kiyo interjected coldly, her Byakugan eyes locking onto Mirai.
After a lighthearted exchange, the three of them decided to celebrate with a meal. However, Kiyo didn't ask to cover Mirai's portion this time, possibly due to the last meal where she had overestimated his appetite.
The trio often went out to eat after completing missions, but Fuu had never joined them—whether after a mission or after training.
As they made their way to the barbecue restaurant, Konoha remained as lively as ever. Compared to other parts of the Land of Fire, Konoha was a bustling city, thriving with energy.
"White Fang... he should be dead by now, right?" Mirai suddenly said, causing both Kiyo and Kurenai to glance at him in surprise.
