Chapter 54: Why don't you become the Jinchūriki?
Koharu, trembling uncontrollably, stared at Yoruichi as if he were a ghost. Her face was pale with terror, and she scrambled backward, her voice a shrill cry of desperation.
"Stay away from me!"
"Help! Someone help!"
"Where is the ANBU?!"
As if summoned by her cries, masked ANBU shinobi began appearing one by one, gathering beside Sakumo Hatake and Minato Namikaze.
"What's happening here?" one of them asked, confusion evident in his voice.
Both Sakumo and Minato held respected positions within the ANBU. With the Hokage absent, the chain of command naturally placed the ANBU under their leadership. However, the sight before them was enough to leave even the most seasoned operatives stunned.
The sight of Koharu, one of Konoha's esteemed elders, in such a pitiful state was almost beyond belief. And as for the one responsible—Yoruichi—the disbelief deepened.
"Yoruichi," Minato said cautiously, stepping forward. "Listen to me. Don't do anything reckless."
"Shut up," Yoruichi snapped coldly. His glare made even Minato hesitate.
Without waiting for further conversation, Yoruichi seized Koharu and flung her forward. She tried to form hand seals, but before she could complete them, thick roots emerged from the ground, wrapping tightly around her arms and wrists, rendering her powerless.
"Yoruichi!" Sakumo called out firmly. "Whatever grievance you have, we can address it when the Hokage returns. Don't act out of anger!"
"Grievance?" Yoruichi let out a dark laugh. His gaze burned as he turned to Sakumo. "Let me ask you this, White Fang—what would you do if your son, Kakashi, were captured and forced to become the Jinchūriki of the Two-Tails?"
Sakumo flinched at the question but maintained his composure. "No matter the circumstances, Yoruichi, we don't take justice into our own hands. That's not the way."
Yoruichi's laughter grew colder. "Justice? You think I'm handing out justice? That implies they're even worthy of it."
With that, he hurled Koharu toward the Two-Tails, which loomed nearby.
Koharu, disoriented and terrified, looked up—only to meet the glowing eyes of the enormous beast. Her entire body froze in terror, her face draining of all color.
The Two-Tails, however, seemed equally uneasy. Its gaze flickered between Koharu and Yoruichi, as if sensing something dangerous.
Meanwhile, Danzo Shimura and Homura Mitokado, who had been attempting to sneak away amidst the chaos, found their escape route blocked by Yoruichi's clones.
"Yoruichi, what are you doing?!" Danzo barked, his voice laced with anger and unease.
"Don't do anything foolish!" he continued. "What happened earlier was for the good of the village! Everything we did—sealing the Two-Tails, activating the Four Violet Flames Formation—was under Uzumaki Mito's guidance!"
Homura quickly nodded in agreement. "Exactly! Koharu might have made mistakes, but this is too far, Yoruichi!"
Yoruichi silenced them with a single raised hand. His expression was calm, but the sheer force of his presence made even Danzo hesitate.
Roots surged forward, instantly ensnaring the group of ninja that stood behind Homura and Danzo. They struggled against the bindings, their faces twisted in panic, but the vines held firm.
The Two-Tails, sensing an opportunity amidst the commotion, attempted to flee. But before it could take more than a step, its limbs were ensnared by the same roots that had subdued the others.
"You thought you could escape?" Yoruichi's voice was a low growl, his gaze cutting toward the beast.
Even the Two-Tails, a being of immense power, seemed cowed.
Nearby, Kushina Uzumaki reinforced the bindings with her Adamantine Sealing Chains, forcing the Two-Tails back into submission.
"Lord Sakumo," one of the ANBU operatives whispered, his voice barely audible. "What should we do?"
Minato glanced at Sakumo, clearly seeking guidance.
Sakumo frowned, his eyes narrowing as he observed Yoruichi. "Wait," he said firmly. "Yoruichi isn't acting without reason. Let's see how this plays out. For now, we don't interfere."
Danzo and Homura, realizing that retreat was no longer an option, reluctantly approached the restrained Two-Tails alongside Yoruichi.
"Kushina Uzumaki," Danzo said with forced calm, "surely you understand we acted only with Konoha's best interests in mind. Everything we did was sanctioned by you."
"That's a lie!" Kushina interrupted, her fiery temper flaring as she glared at Danzo.
Danzo's expression darkened, but Yoruichi cut him off before he could respond.
"Since you're all so fond of the Two-Tails," Yoruichi said with a smirk, "I think it's only fair that one of you becomes its Jinchūriki."
The air seemed to freeze at his words.
"What… what did you say?" Homura stammered, his face pale.
Even Danzo, who prided himself on his composure, took a visible step back.
The implications of becoming a Jinchūriki were clear. They wouldn't just lose their autonomy—they'd be ostracized, feared, and treated as nothing more than tools. Their political power would vanish, and their lives would never be their own again.
"You can't be serious," Koharu whispered, her voice trembling.
But the cold gleam in Yoruichi's eyes told them otherwise.
"You wanted to make her—" he gestured toward Kushina—"a Jinchūriki, didn't you? Well, why not volunteer yourselves? After all, it's for the good of the village."
His tone was mockingly pleasant, but the threat beneath it was unmistakable.
Danzo, Homura, and Koharu exchanged horrified glances. For the first time, they realized the depth of Yoruichi's wrath—and just how far he was willing to go to make them pay.
