Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Minato Is Gone Ahead of Schedule
Inside the Seal
"You little devil, come here!"
"Hey, if you have the guts, come out!"
"Tch, if you think you're so tough, break the seal!"
Tear! The seal was ripped apart by Naruto.
Just as he was about to make his next move, a hand stopped him.
"You...!" The Nine-Tails growled angrily. "The Fourth Hokage!"
"Naruto," Minato Namikaze said calmly.
"Once the Eight Trigrams Seal is weakened, I appear in your consciousness. I added a little safeguard within the sealing technique. Though I desperately hoped this would never happen... because I really didn't want to see you again, Nine-Tails!"
"ROAR!" Kurama bellowed at Minato in fury.
"But..." Minato continued, "I am happy to see my son growing up. There are joys and sorrows in that, too."
"Fourth Hokage!" Kurama snarled. "Watch me tear you apart!"
Minato smirked. "If you have the guts, come out."
Kurama: "..." The hell?! Father and son are both the same kind of crazy!
Minato turned back to Naruto. "You're smaller than I imagined."
With a snap of his fingers, the two appeared in a space of white light. Minato sighed. "The Third Hokage never told you anything about the Nine-Tails, did he?"
His face darkened. "To keep your identity a secret... to protect you from enemies, I understand. But allowing the village to treat you like this..."
Naruto suddenly punched Minato in the stomach. "That's for how things turned out, Old Man. Thanks to you, adults have treated me like trash since I was a kid. Making friends wasn't exactly easy, either."
Minato winced but accepted it. "I'm sorry, Naruto. I really didn't expect the Third to treat you like that. In this world, power is the only thing that guarantees survival.
I thought that by sealing Kyuubi chakra inside you with the Eight Trigrams Seal, I'd at least be giving you a means to protect yourself. But I didn't expect Hiruzen to hide your identity completely."
Minato clenched his fists. "It seems he allowed the village to blame the Nine-Tails attack on you, all to maintain his own political power... I'm sorry, Naruto. As your father, I made you suffer so much."
Outside the Seal
The red chakra tails whipped around violently as the massive surge of Nine-Tails' chakra spread in all directions, sending Jiraiya flying.
"...Damn it?" Jiraiya coughed. "I only wanted him to control a bit of the Nine-Tails' chakra—how did he end up manifesting eight tails?!"
Steeling himself, Jiraiya clasped his hands together and closed his eyes, preparing for the worst.
Back Inside the Seal
Naruto waved his hand dismissively. "I get it, I get it. Look, I won't release the Nine-Tails early. The chakra I have now is enough. If there's nothing else, I'm heading out."
Minato sighed. "Alright." Slowly, he faded away into Naruto's subconscious.
Hokage's Office
Anko Mitarashi entered the office hesitantly. "Lord Hokage... I'm sorry."
Hiruzen Sarutobi cut her off. "Do you regret coming back alive from the Forest of Death?"
"No, it's just—"
"Don't dwell on it. You have nothing to do with Orochimaru anymore. No one in Konoha can match him. Even I... I fear I cannot." Hiruzen's voice carried exhaustion.
Anko hesitated. "If only the Fourth Hokage were still alive..."
"Don't say that," Hiruzen muttered. "He died protecting this village. That was thirteen years ago. He's gone... we must protect Konoha with our own strength."
He sighed heavily, then placed his Hokage hat back on and slowly walked out of the office.
Back at the Training Grounds
Naruto slowly opened his eyes, greeted by Jiraiya standing before him, hands folded together.
"Sage Mode!" Jiraiya yelled, staring at Naruto warily.
"...What the hell, Pervy Sage?" Naruto asked, confused.
Jiraiya blinked. "Wait... you're not berserk?!"
Naruto rolled his eyes. "Did you think I was gonna lose control? Tch, I just used my chakra to counteract the Nine-Tails' chakra."
He walked over to a nearby river and checked his reflection. A few whisker marks had darkened, and he frowned. "Ugh... this looks so damn ugly."
With that, he withdrew Kurama's chakra completely.
Inside Naruto's subconscious, Kurama let out a frustrated roar. Damn brat!
"Are you sure you don't want to sign a contract with Mount Myōboku?" Jiraiya asked, looking disappointed.
Naruto waved him off. "Nah. The toads are too ugly, and they're all dudes. The readers said the protagonist can't have male creatures around him. Not even a damn toad. Maybe if it were a husky, then we'd talk."
Jiraiya: "..."
Meanwhile, with the Suna Trio
"We were ordered to keep an eye on Gaara, but..." Temari muttered.
"It's fine," Kankuro shrugged. "Even he won't act without orders in broad daylight."
"Besides, you should be worrying about something else." Kankuro smirked. "Your first opponent is that Naruto guy. Got any tactics planned?"
"Hmph," Temari scoffed. "I've done my research. He's just a fresh graduate. Like hell I'd lose to someone at that level."
Kankuro raised an eyebrow. "You sure about that? If you had taken the Chūnin Exams earlier, you'd have been promoted easily."
Temari scowled. "Enough already."
