Naruto: Battling the Five Kage, the System is Late

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: System Arrival

Land of Fire, Nameless Plain.

A cold wind howled as the lingering echoes of the Warring States period, recently concluded, once again seeped across the land.

Clad in silver armor from the Warring States era, with bracers bearing the crescent moon emblem of the Hagoromo Clan, Hagoromo Gengetsu swept his eyes expressionlessly across his surroundings. His lips twitched into a bitter sneer.

All familiar faces.

Rettō, Ai, Hakuren, and Ishikawa.

And…

Hagoromo Gengetsu's gaze lingered on the man directly in front of him, dressed in red-and-white ceremonial robes and wearing a hat emblazoned with the kanji for "Fire."

Senju Hashirama.

The newly appointed First Hokage of Konohagakure.

Before this, however, he was known by another, far more renowned title:

Leader of the Senju Clan.

God of Shinobi.

Gengetsu's smirk deepened as he chuckled bitterly. "Well, aren't I honored? The Five Kage of the great hidden villages joining forces just to deal with me."

His gaze flickered across the hats of the Five Kage—"Fire," "Earth," "Water," "Wind," "Lightning"—forming an impenetrable encirclement, cutting off all possible escape routes.

Gengetsu sighed to himself in mock self-deprecation. Was he really worth this much trouble?

Sure, he'd done his fair share of meddling in the world, but he'd hardly committed any earth-shattering crimes.

From the moment he was hit by a runaway truck and reincarnated into this world, he had followed the noble virtues of a transmigrator. He had helped old women cross the street, played board games with elderly men, bought lollipops for little girls, distributed porridge to the needy, and repaired roads and bridges.

At most, he'd cleaned up a few lowlifes—thugs and bullies who preyed on the weak. Oh, and the occasional cold-hearted shinobi who killed innocents without a second thought.

Admittedly, his "clean-up" efforts might have grown a bit broader in scope over time. It was only natural—once you start taking out the trash, it's hard to stop when there's so much filth.

This world offended his sense of justice, shaped by nine years of mandatory education and a clear moral compass. And since he had the power, why not?

Following the trail of thugs and criminals, he had worked his way up the ladder, targeting corrupt leaders, landlords, officials, and even long-standing nobles. Eventually, even the powerful daimyo—figures of supreme authority—were not spared his wrath.

For shinobi, his purge extended from wandering rogues to clans, then to the hidden villages that had only recently emerged on the political stage.

Naturally, this earned him many enemies.

But Gengetsu didn't care.

Who was he?

The head of the illustrious and powerful Yui Clan!

While the Hagoromo had faltered in battles against the Senju in the past, no one could deny the clan's strength. They had fought the mighty Senju for years and signed an alliance pact with the Uchiha Clan—another feat not to be underestimated.

And his existence had only elevated the Hagoromo Clan's prestige.

While Hashirama was hailed as the "God of Shinobi," Gengetsu was also recognized as a peerless talent, the only shinobi capable of rivaling the divine.

Gengetsu stood at the apex of the shinobi world.

Yet now, for the first time, he found himself in dire straits.

Facing him were the First Kazekage Rettō, the First Raikage Ai, the First Mizukage Hakuren, the First Tsuchikage Ishikawa, and, most dangerously of all, Senju Hashirama.

These were not ordinary opponents. Each had clawed their way to the top in the Warring States period and brought an end to that bloody era.

Facing all five of them together? Even Gengetsu couldn't guarantee victory.

And with Hashirama among them?

He was in serious trouble.

---

A swarm of ominous crows seemed to circle overhead, cawing mournfully. Gengetsu took a deep breath, suppressing the chaotic thoughts in his mind. He scanned the Five Kage surrounding him and said with forced cheer, "What an honor to have you all here. I heard you were holding the Five Kage Summit to divide up the spoils. Is that over already?"

Hakuren, the First Mizukage, raised a hand to adjust his hat, revealing a long scar that ran across his blind left eye. His expression was calm as he replied, "The banquet is nearly set. Only one dish remains to be served: you, Hagoromo Gengetsu."

Gengetsu glanced at him but said nothing. Instead, he turned his gaze to Hashirama, standing directly in front of him.

Hashirama, ever the straightforward one, met his gaze and sighed. "Gengetsu, peace has finally returned to the shinobi world, and no one wants to see it shattered. You're too powerful, and your ideals are too extreme. After much deliberation, we had no choice but to act."

Gengetsu blinked, dumbfounded.

First of all, he wasn't the Nine-Tails.

Second, extreme ideals?

What had he said?

After a moment of confusion, he recalled some offhand comments he had made: the Five Great Shinobi Villages weren't a symbol of peace, merely a temporary truce; true peace required unification; and, of course, his quips about Hashirama's lack of foresight and Madara's questionable decisions.

But that was just idle talk. Banter, really.

Surely, they didn't take him seriously?

Yet the killing intent emanating from the Five Kage told him otherwise.

For the first time, Gengetsu understood the price of running his mouth.

"I was just joking," he said, shrugging. "I never intended to act on those ideas. Do you believe me?"

Predictably, they did not.

Hashirama opened his mouth to respond, but Ai, the First Raikage, cut him off, fists clenched. "And if you did? Hagoromo Gengetsu, you must die!"

The other Kage nodded in agreement.

Ishikawa, the First Tsuchikage, spoke bluntly: "The Five Great Nations have established their balance. To preserve peace, you, the greatest threat to this balance, must be eliminated."

"The daimyo have long been dissatisfied with you," added Rettō, the First Kazekage, smiling coldly. "An upstart shinobi daring to challenge their authority? You've brought this upon yourself."

The truth was clear: Gengetsu's fate had been decided the moment they arrived.

---

For Gengetsu, this wasn't just a battle—it was an execution.

As he stood there, a mocking thought crossed his mind— Years before Uchiha Madara would gain the honor of fighting five Kage, he had already beaten him to it.

But the presence of Hashirama made escape impossible.

Gengetsu's expression darkened as his resolve hardened. He dusted off his armor and looked up, his eyes glinting with danger.

---

At that moment, as Gengetsu's aura sharpened like a tiger preparing to pounce, the Five Kage tensed.

Yet before the battle could erupt, Gengetsu raised his hand in a halting gesture.

"Wait."

Hashirama froze mid-motion, startled.

The other Kage exchanged puzzled glances.

Was Gengetsu about to surrender? Beg for his life?

But Gengetsu ignored their confusion. His focus was entirely inward.

A mechanical chime echoed in his mind:

[Ding!]

At long last, the golden finger he'd been waiting for—his cheat system—had arrived.
