Chapter 47: Chapter 47: End of Semester
·Chapter 47: End of Semester9 FebThe next night, the grand final banquet began. Ryan and the others rushed to the auditorium with their classmates early and reserved a place for Harry at the long table in the academy.
"You said Harry, is he coming today?" Hermione asked Ryan, who was sitting next to her.
"I think he will definitely come. After all, we saw that he recovered well yesterday, and it should be no problem to be discharged from the hospital today," Ryan replied.
At this time, Ron, who was sitting opposite Ryan, also added, "Yeah, I think Harry will definitely come. How could he miss such a grand banquet? I think even if my leg were broken, I'd crawl over."
Hermione glared at Ron angrily before turning her attention to the special decoration in the auditorium tonight: the whole space was decked out in green and silver representing Slytherin to celebrate their seven consecutive years of winning the Academy Cup. On the wall behind the guest of honor hung a huge banner featuring a painted Slytherin snake.
"If you give it a little more time, maybe we could add the points back," Hermione said, somewhat unconvinced.
Ryan looked at it quite openly. On the one hand, Dumbledore was bound to add points soon. On the other hand, "At least we aren't last. We're at least 30 points higher than the bottom Hufflepuff." (After all, one person got 50 points deducted for the night tour, and Hermione didn't add many points to Ryan for pretending to be transparent in class because of guilt.)
But hearing Ryan's attempt to reassure her, Hermione seemed even more depressed.
When everyone was almost there, Harry hurried in from the door of the auditorium. The sound in the entire room paused for a moment, and then grew louder.
Ryan waved at Harry to show him their seats, and Harry ran over and sat next to Ron. Everyone around them turned their attention to Harry, making him feel a bit uncomfortable.
Luckily, Dumbledore soon arrived, and the noise in the auditorium gradually subsided. Everyone turned their attention to the Headmaster.
Dumbledore happily made a brief summary, and then began the award ceremony for the Academy Cup. The scores for each school were as follows:Fourth place: Hufflepuff, 352 points.Third place: Gryffindor, 384 points.Second place: Ravenclaw, 426 points.First place: Slytherin, 510 points.A thunderous roar of cheers and stomps erupted from the Slytherin table. Ryan noticed Draco Malfoy slamming the table with his goblet. It struck him that this wasn't quite in line with the manners of the so-called platinum nobles. He didn't understand how the etiquette in those pure-blood families was learned.
Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued, "However, a few recent events must also be counted."
The auditorium fell silent, and the smiles of the Slytherins faded. Ryan knew that Dumbledore was about to give extra points. Although, in his previous life, when Ryan was reading the books, he hated this kind of unfair bonus. But, as the saying goes, "the butt decides the head," and as he had been assigned to Gryffindor in this life, he naturally hoped for "a little more."
By the time Ryan snapped back to attention, Dumbledore had already begun announcing the bonus points. First, he awarded fifty points for the wisdom, courage, and sacrifice that Ryan and Ron demonstrated on the chessboard. This caused a cheer on the Gryffindor table, and Ryan felt his face burn with excitement. Percy's voice came from the side: "It's my brother. He broke through Professor McGonagall's chessboard."
Next, Dumbledore awarded 30 points to Hermione for her reasoning ability, which made Hermione burst into tears, touched by the recognition.
Finally, Harry received sixty points for his daring bravery and extraordinary courage.
At this, the cheers from the Gryffindor table grew louder. Gryffindor's score was now 524 points, a full ten points higher than Slytherin's.
The decorations in the auditorium changed accordingly. The green ribbons turned bright red, the silver ones gold, and the giant Slytherin snake disappeared, replaced by a majestic Gryffindor lion. Ryan forced an awkward smile when he saw Snape shaking hands with Professor McGonagall.
What followed was a sumptuous dinner, making for a truly wonderful evening.
A few days later, the final results were announced. Ryan took second place in the exam, with Hermione naturally taking first. He saw Hermione approach him specifically to show off her report card, probably to avenge the fact that she had always come second in elementary school.
But it seemed Hogwarts exams weren't too difficult, as everyone passed. Harry and the others expressed their regret that some of the stupid Slytherin students had managed to pass.
With the final semester officially over, everything was packed into their suitcases. A notice was sent to each student reminding them that magic was not allowed during the holidays. (Ryan thought to himself, "I have somewhere to practice magic anyway.")
Hagrid was in charge of leading them aboard the fleet across the lake. Now, they had boarded the Hogwarts Express, chatting and laughing all the way, watching the countryside outside the window grow greener and more tidy. The train passed through Muggle towns as they ate Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, took off their wizard robes, and put on jackets and blouses. Finally, the train arrived at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters at King's Cross Station.
It took them a while to get out of the platform. A shriveled old guard stood at the wicket, allowing only two or three people to pass at a time to prevent a crowd from passing through the solid wall at once, which would attract the attention of Muggles.
"You must come to our house this summer," said Ron. "All three of you—I'll send owls to invite you." "Thanks," said Harry, "I do need some hope." Life at the Dursleys wasn't good for Harry, and he wished this holiday would be a little better.
Ryan and the others passed through the exit together, and he saw a little red-haired girl—it was Ron's sister, Ginny, the future Mrs. Potter—pointing at Harry and saying, "He's there, Mom, look!"
Afterwards, Mrs. Weasley greeted Harry, but the Dursleys rudely interrupted the conversation. "Come on, boy, we can't afford to spend the whole day," said Mr. Dursley, and turned away.
"You live with them?" Ryan exclaimed, showing an expression of disbelief. Such rude people were rare. Hermione had the same look. "I wish you a—well—happy holiday."
Luckily, Harry seemed in good spirits. "Oh, I'll be happy. They don't know we're not allowed to use magic at home, and I'm going to have a good time with Dudley this summer."
