Chapter 394 - 387: Consider it as Internship
Chapter 394: Chapter 387: Consider it as Internship
She pulled up the quilt. No matter where she was, she felt that she could adapt quite well. At the very least, she could fall asleep, not losing sleep due to switching places, changing air, changing quilts, or changing pillows.
When she woke up, it was already late in the morning. She sat in bed for a while before realizing where she was and how she ended up here. Her belongings on the table were neatly arranged and there was a new set of clothes – a doctor’s white coat.
Tang Yuxin picked up the white coat, her fingers lightly tracing the fabric. Was it meant for her? But she wasn’t a doctor. She was a student. Could she wear it? She looked at her clothes from yesterday. They were so dirty they were barely recognizable and they carried a certain smell.
Like dust, like sweat, even a sour smell.
Moreover, she had vomited when she arrived.
She walked into the bathroom and found everything she needed, including new toothpaste and a toothbrush. As expected of a major hospital, even these things were customized.
When she came out, she was unsure of what to wear. Surely, she couldn’t just go out bare. The weather outside was certainly not too good; she could freeze to death.
Suddenly, she remembered. This was a hospital. The doctors would naturally wear their doctor clothes. Otherwise, would it still be a hospital? This thought comforted her. After changing her clothes, she felt like she blended in with the people here. There was nothing strange about it, yet it still felt strange.
She touched her collar, then her pocket. Wearing this hospital’s uniform felt tense and unfamiliar.
But she still didn’t know where to go. She needed to eat breakfast. This place, to her, was a strange labyrinth.
“What are you doing here?”
A sudden voice made her feet pause. She looked up to see Gu Ning, still formally dressed. She didn’t know when he arrived. Why hadn’t she noticed him earlier?
“You’ve buttoned it wrong,” Gu Ning extended his hand to correct her misaligned buttons.
His fingers were long and delicate with distinct knuckles. There were scarcely any traces of calluses, and a few faint scars were discernible.
“Done,” Gu Ning then withdrew his hand. “How did you get here?”
Tang Yuxin blinked. She felt like a seasoned veteran, tough-skinned. If it were someone else, wouldn’t they blush and shyly reply, “You’re so annoying?” But she felt that was totally natural. He was like one of her seniors.
“Mr. Gu.”
Gu Ning slightly frowned.
“Uncle Gu.”
Reflexively correcting herself, Tang Yuxin quickly shifted her form of address.
Regarding this ‘Uncle’, Gu Ning didn’t correct her, it’s not like he wasn’t called ‘Uncle Liberation Army by Little Fatty. Being addressed as ‘Uncle’ by Little Fatty’s sister was not over the line.
“Uncle Gu, I’m looking for the cafeteria,” Her stomach grumbled in agreement, indicating that she was telling the truth.
“I’ll take you.”
Gu Ning turned to head in the direction of the cafeteria, while Tang Yuxin followed with a light jog.
“Sir, no…” She hurriedly corrected herself, “Uncle Gu, do you come here often? You seem very familiar with the place.”
“Sort of, my company is across from the hospital. We cooperate with this hospital.” Gu Ning massaged his shoulder, “Moreover, I often end up here due to the occasional injury.”
Tang Yuxin felt as though she had stated the obvious. Who else would regularly visit the hospital?
The hospital cafeteria was not far from where Tang Yuxin had just been standing. She just went off track. If she didn’t know its location, she might have starved to death wandering around.
The hospital cafeteria was big with a diverse menu. Gu Ning picked out some dishes and served them in front of Tang Yuxin.
All her favorites. Tang Yuxin looked at the dishes, all of which she frequently ate and liked. There wasn’t a carrot or piece of coriander, both of which she disliked.
“Eat,” Gu Ning handed Tang Yuxin a pair of chopsticks, “They should all be to your liking.”
“Uncle Gu, how did you know?” Tang Yuxin wasn’t shy anymore. She had been polite enough in her previous life. She didn’t dare to think that this man had been a part of her past life, having received her two kidneys. Who was to say who owed whom?
“The last time, you only ate these types of dishes,” Gu Ning also picked up his chopsticks and started eating. Although he seemed casual, he was actually very particular about table manners, a testimony to his upbringing and affluent lifestyle.
Tang Yuxin picked up her bowl and drank her porridge while occasionally glancing at Gu Ning. Noticing her surreptitious glances, Gu Ning deliberately obstructed her view.
Tang Yuxin quickly returned her gaze to the food in her bowl and continued eating.
“Your school called and said that you could treat your time here as an internship.”
Tang Yuxin was not opposed. In fact, it was good for her as she needed an internship. Even though she didn’t need any further practice, an internship was a requirement that would be recorded on her transcript.
She finished every grain of rice and every morsel of food in her bowl. Honestly, the food in the military hospital was quite good, even better than the food in her school.
Moreover, Gu Ning gave her a card that allowed her to eat as much as she wanted in the hospital, just like the special allowance card she had at school. However, unlike her school’s card which had a limit of four thousand, this card had no limit.
Tang Yuxin took out the card from her pocket and thought it truly solved her problem of meals. But she wondered if there was such a good thing in the world. Where else would a company provide meals and lodgings for internships?
Even her accommodations in the hospital, a private room, were furnished with a small bathroom. Her meals were taken care of and all she needed to do was monitor the general’s recovery. It was indeed a good deal.
Then she returned the card to her pocket, changed into sterile clothing, and entered the ICU. The operation had been successful, but the elderly general hadn’t awakened yet. After all, it was a major operation, and it might take at least two days for him to regain consciousness.
