Chapter 91: Soulessence Nexus Ring
Alex leaned back in his chair, the golden ring resting in the palm of his hand as his eyes flicked to Aurora, who hovered nearby, her ethereal glow faint but steady.
"Before we move forward," he began, his tone firm yet measured, "I need some answers. I have to understand exactly what I'm getting into."
Aurora nodded, her golden eyes meeting his. "Of course. Ask whatever you need."
"This... contract you keep mentioning—what are the exact terms? What exactly am I agreeing to?"
She floated a bit closer, her voice calm and deliberate. "It's not particularly complicated. It's not even a contract in the traditional sense. It's a magic spell that will enslave my soul to yours, creating a master-servant bond. Through this connection, I'll anchor my existence to yours, drawing mana from you to keep my soul stable."
Alex sighed, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. "Fine. But even if I agree to this, there's a problem. I don't have the mana capacity to support you. Not now, anyway."
Aurora's lips curled into a faint smile, as though she'd expected this concern. "You're right—at your current capacity, you couldn't sustain me at full strength. Right now, my soul requires about 100 MP per second to remain stable. However,"—she raised a finger, her tone lightening slightly—"I don't actually need that much. I can adjust. If you supply just 20 MP per second, I'll manage comfortably."
Alex's eyes narrowed as he began calculating. 'Currently, my mana regeneration rate is 25 MP per second—a massive improvement from before. Dedicating 20 MP to Aurora would leave me with only 5 MP per second... It's ten times what I used to have, but still... I'll need mana for myself too.'
His thoughts churned as he glanced at Aurora, her gaze steady and expectant. 'But the real question is—should I form this contract with Aurora now or wait until I'm stronger?'
"If I give you 20 MP, I'll barely have anything left for myself." Alex said, his concern evident. "And if I'm in a fight or run out of mana to support you that's a problem."
Aurora nodded, her golden eyes softening. "If you ever run out, I can absorb ambient mana from the environment to sustain myself temporarily. Or,"—she gestured toward the golden ring—"I can retreat into the ring. The artifact can act as a storage vessel for my soul. I won't vanish the moment you stop supplying me with mana. I'm not entirely dependent on your mana."
One might wonder: if Aurora can absorb mana from her surroundings, why is she trapped here in the academy, unable to venture outside?
The answer is simple—she doesn't just need any mana. What her soul requires is pure and strong mana, supplied in a steady, controlled flow.
The academy provides the perfect environment for her survival. Thanks to its geographical advantage, coupled with mana-gathering formations and other protective arrays, it creates a sanctuary of stable, refined mana. This allows Aurora to maintain her existence without the risk of destabilization.
The outside world, however, is a different story. The ambient mana outside the academy is far more chaotic, and if Aurora were to accidentally venture into a place with corrupted or volatile mana, it could be detrimental—possibly fatal—for her fragile soul.
Alex considered her words, still unsure.
Sensing his hesitation, Aurora smiled faintly, her tone turning persuasive. "I promise you, Alex, I'll be the best support you could ask for. Since no one else can see me, I can gather information without being detected. I can warn you about dangers long before you'd sense them yourself. With me by your side, you'll have access to my knowledge, my abilities, and my support—anytime, anywhere. Isn't that something most people would die to have?"
Her enthusiasm was hard to ignore, but Alex wasn't ready to drop his guard just yet. He narrowed his eyes. "Alright, one last thing. You won't, I don't know, take over my body or something along those lines, right?" He gave her a skeptical look.
Aurora huffed, crossing her arms. "How many times do I have to tell you I'm not a ghost? As a soul, I can't take over a body that already has a living soul—it's literally impossible."
She paused, then added with a sly smile, "However, if you let me, I can control your mana and even move your body. But only if you allow it. Nothing will happen without your explicit permission."
Before Alex could respond, she continued, her tone softening again. "And don't forget—by casting this spell, you'll become the master. I'll essentially be your slave until you decide to free me. This isn't just a risk for you, Alex—it's a huge risk for me too. But I trust you." Her voice grew quieter, almost vulnerable. "I trust you enough to risk my life to explore the outside world with you."
Alex let out a long breath, his gaze shifting from the ring to Aurora. Deep down, he knew what his decision would be.
Aurora wasn't just some lingering soul bound to the Academy—she was his companion. She'd been there since the beginning, guiding him, pushing him to grow stronger. The idea of leaving her behind, of watching her fade away, wasn't something he could accept.
He slipped the ring onto his finger, "Let's get this over with," he muttered, his resolve hardening. "Tell me how to charge this ring and cast the spell."
Aurora's eyes brightened, her glow flickering back to life as a lovely smile marred her face making her even more breathtaking.
In just around 10-15 minutes of time he filled the Soulessence Nexus Ring with slightly more than 10,000 MP. Initially he couldn't appraise it as it was way above it's level but now after knowing it's name and charging it he gave it a try and it worked.

Finally, it was time to cast the spell. Alex swallowed nervously, his gaze fixed on Aurora. "Are you absolutely sure about this?"
Aurora nodded, her expression resolute. "I'm prepared. Do it."
"Alright…" Alex took a deep breath, steadying himself. Raising his palm toward Aurora, he activated the spell.
The moment he activated the magic circle, nearly all the mana in his body was instantly drained. He then felt the energy being siphoned and channeled through the ring into the magic circle.
A dark, intricate magic circle materialized beneath Aurora, its ominous glow filling the room. Invisible restraints began to form, latching onto her ethereal form and slowly pulling her toward him.
Aurora remained calm, allowing the spell to take hold without resistance. The process was intense, and Alex could feel the weight of her presence merging with his. Moments later, system notifications flooded his vision:
[The host has enslaved the soul of Aurora De Vil Delsarede.]
[The host has two options to choose from:]
[1. Eradicate the soul of Aurora De Vil Delsarede.]
[2. Bind the soul of Aurora De Vil Delsarede to the host, creating a master-servant contract.]
Without hesitation, Alex chose the second option. "Bind her to mine." he declared firmly.
[The soul of Aurora De Vil Delsarede is now bound to the host's body.]
[The host has acquired a new Soul Slave.]
[The soul slave Aurora is requesting 20 MP/sec from the host.]
'Allow'
"How do you feel?" Alex asked, his voice laced with concern.
"Pretty normal." Aurora replied, her tone calm and composed, though her glowing eyes betrayed a flicker of curiosity.
"And you?"
"I'm feeling a bit drained." Alex admitted, rubbing his temples. "Mana fatigue, but nothing I can't handle. I'll recover soon enough."
Aurora nodded, a small smile gracing her lips. "Looks like everything went smoothly, then. Once again, thank you for this, Alex. You have no idea how much this means to me."
Before he could respond, she floated closer and, without hesitation, leaned in to embrace him.
Alex tensed for a moment, expecting her to phase right through him as she always did. But this time, her touch—though faint and ethereal—was real. Both of them paused, feeling the strange yet undeniable sensation of each other's presence.
"You… you can touch me now." Alex said, his voice barely above a whisper, equal parts surprised and awed.
Aurora pulled back slightly, her smile softening as her glowing form shimmered. "It seems the spell really worked."
For a moment, they simply stood there, the weight of their new connection sinking in, unspoken but deeply felt.
