Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Is Your Body Breaking Down?
They stared at each other, eyes wide.
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that if a needle had dropped to the floor at that moment, Sheng Youxia would have heard it loud and clear.
Fu Shilv propped himself up with straight arms, staring down. He definitely didn't want to believe it either.
He had never been so speechless in his life.
With a grimace, he got out of bed, his back looking lean and toned. Fu Shilv swiftly entered the bathroom.
Sheng Youxia laid back, resting her arms behind her head, really thankful to Tang Hui. That medicine could be called miraculous.
She didn't know what the man was doing inside, but Sheng Youxia guessed he was surely trying to prove he could still perform.
She tiptoed out of bed and pushed the door open without knocking.
Sheng Youxia's face was full of worry and concern, "Are you okay? Do we need to go to the hospital?"
The scene that met her eyes somewhat damaged Mr. Fu's image; he was examining a certain part of his body.
"Who let you in?"
Fu Shilv's voice rose, men in these matters were particularly proud, "Why would we go to the hospital?"
Sheng Youxia pointed at him, concern evident in her gesture. "This is definitely not right. Have you... broken down physically?"
She saw Fu Shilv's complexion, which truly had collapsed.
Sheng Youxia continued to provoke, "The hospital results came out, didn't they? I'm completely fine. You should really think about it, could the reason we don't have children be because you..."
She really wanted to paste the words "not functioning" onto his forehead.
At that moment, Fu Shilv was like a tiger without its fangs, his gaze piercing into Sheng Youxia, his words full of warning.
"If you dare to spread this around, you won't even know how you died!"
Sheng Youxia quickly agreed, "How could I say such things? If I did, others would laugh at me too."
Fu Shilv heard her tone; didn't it sound like she had already read his last rites?
"Get out!"
"Okay, okay." Sheng Youxia went over and patted Fu Shilv's shoulder, "Take it easy, don't rush, the more anxious you get, the less it works."
The man angrily grabbed Sheng Youxia's wrist and flung her hand away, "I've done several big operations these past few days, I'm a bit tired."
But even he felt that excuse was a bit far-fetched.
No matter how tired, it shouldn't result in impotence.
The moment Sheng Youxia lay back down, she almost rolled over twice with glee. It was only as she was about to fall asleep that she heard Fu Shilv's approaching footsteps.
He lifted the covers and turned off the light.
The outside world had such high regard for Fu Shilv, he was the unattainable flower in the hearts of countless women, noble and beyond reach.
Facing this situation, who knew what he felt at the moment?
Sheng Youxia turned and snuggled up to Fu Shilv, her hand reaching down to his abdominal muscles, even thought of going lower, "Shall we try again?"
He knew his current state the best.
Without mercy, Fu Shilv brushed her hand away, "Scram."
"Oh."
Sheng Youxia rolled back to her original lying position, certain that she could get a good night's sleep.
The abrupt ringing of the cellphone, the man glanced at the caller ID and picked up the phone much quicker.
"Hello."
"Mr. Fu, the person who is donating the cornea might not make it, but the family still doesn't want to give up resuscitation."
Sheng Youxia's breath tightened up.
The veins on the back of Fu Shilv's hand stretched to his wrist, "When can the surgery be done?"
"We still have to wait, but it should be soon."
Sheng Youxia listened, hearing everything clearly.
Fu Shilv instructed, "There must be no mistakes."
"Yes, I'll keep an eye on it."
Fu Shilv ended the call.
Sheng Youxia clenched her hand inside the covers, knowing how difficult it would be to do anything under Fu Shilv's watchful eye.
Fortunately, Fu Shilv had his guard down around her.
Sheng Youxia had exhausted her means just to dig up a bit of information on the donor, but she couldn't find the person's whereabouts at all.
She asked nonchalantly, "The person who donated the cornea, how old were they?"
"What do you want to know for?"
Sheng Youxia pulled the blanket higher, without showing a trace of her emotions, "Doesn't that mean someone had to die? If they were very young, that would be such a waste."
Fu Shilv was a doctor, accustomed to life and death. Being a doctor meant sparing no effort to save lives when possible, but also being more accepting of death than anyone else.
"It was a college student, involved in a serious car accident."
Sheng Youxia paused for several seconds before she spoke again.
"Are they at your hospital?"
Fu Shilv didn't suspect her, but he didn't spell it out either, "That's none of your business."
However, Sheng Youxia knew she had guessed correctly from his expression alone.
This was the advantage of remaining in the dark.
"I'm going to sleep." She slid her shoulders under the covers, and Fu Shilv couldn't detect any fluctuation in her tone.
He couldn't afford to concern himself with all that, his gaze falling on his lower body, wondering if it would be better by tomorrow.
...
The next day, Fu Shilv and Sheng Youxia left the house almost one after the other.
It wasn't easy to find someone in such a large hospital.
Sheng Youxia searched the inpatient department for half a day without any useful leads.
She went downstairs, planning to try her luck in Block B.
"Sheng Youxia!"
Her steps came to an abrupt halt, and turning around, she saw Fu Shilv had already approached her.
A young female doctor was with him.
He reached out and took off Sheng Youxia's hat. She was wearing a pair of black sunglasses, like she was sneaking around like a thief. "What are you doing here?"
Her face was small, and the sunglasses were about to fall off, so Sheng Youxia simply took them off.
Her mind was working exceptionally fast, almost never stalling. She reached out and hooked her arm around Fu Shilv's, "I came to find you. I wanted to have lunch with you."
"I don't have time."
This bastard's affections were all spent on someone else, and he even withdrew his arm.
The female doctor had her hands in her pockets, wearing a look of amusement.
A gentle breeze blew by, and sunlight filtered through the layered leaves, casting a few swaying circles of light.
Half of Fu Shilv's face was bathed in a soft glow, his jawline sharp, the white coat loose and draped over his frame.
His abstinence was quite provocative.
So, was she not fit to be seen in daylight?
Sheng Youxia stepped forward, lifted his white coat, and wrapped her arm tightly around his sturdy waist from the side.
People were coming and going, and Fu Shilv's face was almost turning green.
"What are you doing?"
"Have you eaten?"
Fu Shilv's eyes, behind the lenses, remained cold, "I'm heading to the cafeteria now."
"Then I'll go with you."
If he didn't agree, she might not let go.
Fu Shilv looked down at her, "Can you even stomach the food there?"
"I can."
The female doctor's expression was unnaturally awkward, torn between staying or going.
Fu Shilv led Sheng Youxia to the hospital cafeteria. He ordered the food while she just watched.
"What will you eat?" he finally asked her after finishing his own order.
Sheng Youxia felt quite sad. She could remember his preferences with utmost clarity, but he probably couldn't name even one dish she liked, could he?
Sheng Youxia randomly picked a couple of dishes before sitting down at the table with Fu Shilv.
As soon as she sat down, she was confronted with a question.
"Tell me, what is your real purpose for coming to the hospital?"
