Chapter 725: Executioner Assassination Attempt
Liam, the strongest Divine Executioner, bore a duty to exterminate the unsealed calamity monsters and protect Earth from monstrous threats.
His power was enough to shift the balance of fate. Yet, despite his overwhelming strength, he remained a solitary guardian, lurking in the shadows of the world.
After resolving the Heaven Realm's crisis, he descended to Earth's mortal realm to oversee the overall situation. His duty there was not over yet. Even though the world's fate had changed, avoiding the great apocalypse, the invading monsters had already taken their territories on Earth, and there were still some calamity monsters that recently broke out of the world's seal.
But recently, his attention had turned toward something unusual. He didn't know it at first, but that jellyfish queen was apparently Elysia's chosen proxy in the monster race.
He never interfered because she might have something planned. He only observed, and it caused him to spare so many overlord-class monsters. Unless they caused big trouble that harmed the world, he never took action against them as long as they posed no harm to humanity.
"..." Liam crossed his arms, staring at the hustle and bustle of Seoul from the top of the world tower.
At that moment, he was not thinking about anything, but a subtle dimensional fluctuation emerged out of nowhere behind him.
He checked it with his divine sense, but he couldn't detect anybody. It might be a misconception, but he believed in his gut feeling. Since the other party posed no malice or killing intent, he couldn't locate the other party's existence, but he knew it was more than one person.
"Get out. I know you're there." Liam looked back with a frown. Unfortunately, he received no response.
"You look more composed than the last time we met." Elysia stood next to Liam, staring at the city below.
"!?" Liam averted his gaze, surprised to find Elysia standing near him, but he hid his surprise well. "It's you... you're back to Earth."
After saying that, he looked at the lady in the hood next to Elysia and the little baby in Elysia's arms. His guess was right, and they served under Elysia's command, and also closely protected by her.
"Mm, we wish to see Earth again." Elysia put her hand on Althea's head, covering the little baby's venomous long hair so it wouldn't sway everywhere because of the wind.
"Ji..." Althea stared dagger at the man before her. This big human had peeked at her daily life twice in the past two months, and she was wary of him.
"Is that so." Liam crossed his arms again, not thinking too much about it.
"Regardless of your duties, I hope you won't cause too much turbulence. Also, please don't cause trouble for my proxies. They are my person." Elysia put her hand on Ophelia's waist and held Althea a little higher, showing the importance.
"All overlords and calamity monsters are under observation, no exceptions. Under my watch, the destructive variables will not be exempt from divine judgment." Liam responded coldly.
"Why do you need to monitor me when I have no connection to the outside world outside my island? If it weren't for my God, we'd never leave our home as we have to guard the sea gate to the Cube Island." Ophelia expressed her concern because she never welcomed the uninvited stranger.
"..." Liam fell silent. He might respond offensively just because the other party was a monster, but he held himself back because of Elysia.
"You are free to punish anyone if they deserve it. If you need to check my people regularly, just pay them a visit in a formal manner. They can detect you easily even if you hide in the void perfectly." Elysia shook her head.
"..." Liam didn't respond, but he listened to it.
"Bad guy." Althea pointed to the man.
"He is actually a good guy, but his duties are too bloody and cold." Elysia gently poked Althea's cheek and made the little girl giggle. However, she then closed her eyes and sighed upon realizing the uninvited guests already surrounded them. "Well, it seems like you're hated and some people want you dead. They're coming for you, friend."
*Clank* *Clank* *Clank*
Several extremely swift daggers shot out of the shadows, aiming at Liam's neck and vital organs. Unfortunately, those daggers couldn't even penetrate his skin.
"It took them longer than expected." Liam raised his hand, squeezing empty air. "Come out and face your demise, mongrels!"
*Rumble!*
The thunderous turbulence occurred, ejecting the lurking assassins from the shadows.
"It's too early to decide who will die." The dark assassin in a purple demon mask landed smoothly, raising his finger as if ready to attack and defend at any time.
*Swoosh!*
A sharp projectile shot out at the speed of sound, but because of Liam's energy turbulence, it got twisted and deviated slightly from its trajectory, flying towards the ladies next to him instead.
Yet, Elysia effortlessly caught it fighting her fingers. "Anti-tank bullet? How bold of you."
"W-wah?!" Althea jolted in shock at the big metal in front of her face. Her response was late because everything happened so fast, but luckily Goddess Ely caught it to protect her.
"I'll return this." Elysia flicked the anti-tank bullet, sending it back to the sniper in the distant building.
No sound and no impact, but the bullet flew incredibly fast. The sniper got shot and died instantly.
"How dare you..." Ophelia widened her eyes. She stared at the humans before her with an angry expression. Her already long hair became even longer and moved as if it had its own will, spreading like threads to the entire area within a forty-meter radius. "How dare you! None is allowed to harm my child!"
The spreading hair was thin but sturdy. The assassin tried to avoid any contact, but it was too late. Ophelia only needed a tiny scratch, and they were instantly paralyzed and suffered under her potent venom.
"Ophelia, calm yourself down. With me here plus my protection charm, none can harm you and Althea easily. They can't even touch us even though they use everything." Elysia pinched Ophelia's cheek.
"Uwww..." Ophelia tilted her head to the side as she regained her composure. She then immediately apologized because she moved reflexively to kill everyone who tried to harm her child. Fortunately, she had not killed those assassins.
"I wonder who they really are..." Elysia wondered as she observed the paralyzed assassins. All of them were at S Rank and one at SS Rank, and they were definitely not from an ordinary dark organization.
"..." Liam squinted his eyes at the jellyfish queen. She was by all means a monster, but her poison was very strange and deadly, reportedly feared and wary of almost all monster overlords.
"Huh, you're injured. Can Ophelia's hair scratch you? That's not true... even if Ophelia uses all her abilities, you can't be injured by her." Elysia was shocked when she noticed the scratch on Liam's cheek.
"Umm..." Ophelia didn't know what to say, but what her God said was true. She never stood a chance to injure this scary human.
"Huh?" Liam put his hand to his cheek, shocked to find himself bleeding.
That venomous hair wasn't the one that injured him because the jellyfish queen was too weak to inflict any damage to his immortal body, but he was injured, and he couldn't even notice how it happened.
A second later, he suffered a weakened debuff from that small scratch, reducing his combat power by 20%.
"Purify." Elysia cast her healing magic to lift the debuff from Liam's body.
"Coward." Liam made a swift motion and leaped into the air. He scanned the entire area and noticed the oddities in the distance. The sneak attack might be coming from there, and the mastermind was trying to escape.
It might be a trap and the villain wished for him to follow. That taunting aura was the solid proof of akan taunts and taunts. However, since Elysia lifted the debuff, he was still in his prime condition, and he was confident to exterminate everything regardless of whatever schemes awaited.
With that in mind, he sped off to hunt down the fleeing villain.
*Boom!* *Rumble!*
The clash of the two powerhouses erupted in a contest of power, followed by thunder and rumbling like an approaching storm. However, the clash looked like fireworks at first glance, and Elysia just watched the show, occasionally filled with Althea's laughter.
A minute later, Liam returned in tattered clothes. He was covered in dust and ash, slightly charred, but he was much or less unharmed. He held someone's head in his hand, and his expression did not look good.
"Heal." Elysia cast her power to lift the debuff from Liam again. She then looked at the head in Liam's hand. "Who is him?"
"The ancient villain who escaped from the samsara's circle. Your assistance is unnecessary, but I appreciate it." Liam dusted off his tattered clothes as he walked away, throwing the paralyzed assassins into a sack.
"Hmm... Alright. I won't bother you further. Wishing you a safe path ahead." Elysia heaved a subtle sigh and bid her farewell. She took Ophelia and Althea away by teleporting.
"..." Liam looked back, finding Elysia already left the vicinity. He spoke no words, but she was silent for a moment before he vanished from there as well, taking the assassins to his temporary base.
As the night was still long, Elysia took Ophelia and Althea back to Phylum Tower. She stayed with them for a bit before she went to the Nature Realm to meet her sisters.
