Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 5: Between the Gorges and Mountains

```
The iron-grey giant wings advanced at an altitude of ten thousand meters, where the aligned engine nozzles continuously spouted blue flames. Due to the extremely high velocity of the exhaust, the wake formed overlapping oscillating curves reminiscent of a trigonometric function, creating brilliant circles at the intersections, known in physics as 'Mach rings'.
Propelled by the augmentation of triple rings, even the heavy aircraft was able to push through the layers of airwaves, moving forward at a speed exceeding the speed of sound.
Hexia leaned against the wide seat by the window, taking a brief nap. This transport aircraft's fuselage, which used to carry mechas and war chariots, had been replaced with a passenger module.
The room she was in was about the size of a classroom, resembling a luxuriously decorated living room, complete with a drinks bar, an automatic kitchen that supplied various foods, and a bathroom at the back for bathing and soaking in the tub. However, Hexia was not in the mood for these activities at the moment, and she was the only official passenger on the aircraft.
Since it was an aircraft of the government and the military, unauthorized personnel or those who did not meet the requirements could not easily board it, so Yilin did not accompany her.
If she were to progress further down the path of a Songstress in the future, the Star Domain government could allocate a personal aircraft to her, just like Prin Coco, which she could summon at any time, but for now, that was not possible.
While the young girl rested, the aircraft crossed multiple layers of clouds and gradually arrived at its destination.
Towering peaks stretched continuously, these treacherous and uninhabited areas became rare refuges during the Jade Skirt's poison rain corrosion. People relied on the mountains to build rain diversion towers that encircled the Northern First District, causing the rain and mist to pour out before it could cross the mountains while climbing the slopes, ensuring the inner areas of the mountains remained unaffected by the poison rain. This also took advantage of the most common form of orographic rain in the four types of precipitation.
Beyond the exterior of the Northern First District, there were also several large artificial lakes. The corrosive poison rain flowed into them, and after being purified by nearby water purification stations, the water was transported for use within the Northern First District. This was the current ecological state of the area.
Occasionally, peaks protruding through the clouds could be seen, appearing like islands floating in the roiling sea of clouds. In places with less dense fog, one could peer through to the cities and buildings below.
The aircraft slowly descended, passing through the damp mists and slowly reaching the intended landing point, a relatively remote airport within the Northern First District designated for military and emergency use, rarely frequented by people.
The roaring sound echoed in the valley, startling various birds, while the airflow brushing the ground swayed the trees wildly, and the bright flame trails made people hundreds of meters away feel a surge of heatwave approaching.
The aircraft eventually came to a steady halt, and then the hatches at its belly lowered the steps, as Hexia also awoke from her sleep.
We're here already, that was fast, she thought, feeling as if she had just taken a short nap, and the flight was over.
She couldn't continue to sit in her seat, so Hexia stood up, stretched a bit, and was then led to the exit by two staff members.
Here, within the vast canyon, the mountainsides were of a darker rose red, or perhaps more accurately described as maroon. The towering mountains were awe-inspiring, with the sky enveloped by them.
Shade-loving trees were scattered around, birds flew through the forest intermittently, and occasionally, one could spot traces of terrestrial animals.
Accompanied by the staff members, Hexia walked across the expansive airport grounds towards one of the nearby buildings, where teachers from Yuanting Academy were already waiting.
"Good morning, Student Hexia~"
The teacher, who looked as if he had just come out of the forest with a beige coat and a leaf in his hair, waved at the girl. Two upper-classmen stood beside him.
"It was supposed to be a bit more ceremonious, but Lady Isabelle said that keeping it low-key would be more conducive to your life ahead, so we simplified it."
"Not at all, Hugh Neil, I prefer it quiet anyway," Hexia shook her head.
"Haha, that's a relief. By the way, I have yet to introduce these two next to me." He patted the students at his side and pushed them forward.
"Vitelina, the president of Yuanting Academy's student council. You must have met her before," said the girl in a black and red skirt uniform, nodding and smiling at Hexia.
"Orcas, like you, a newcomer with extraordinary talent. Perhaps you will become good friends and rivals at the academy," the teacher then patted the other young man beside him, with his brownish skin and faint scars at the corners of his eyes, suggesting he had grown up in the wild.
"Hello," he nodded, then fell silent again.
```

"All right, we'll learn about the other matters after we arrive at the academy; now it's time for us to depart," he said, nodding to the personnel following behind Hexia. They then signed some documents to hand over responsibilities, and soon after, the flying vehicle that had brought them there took off again, disappearing into the distant sky.

"Come with me, Hexia," said Hugh Neil, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose before leading the way. Vitelina helped Hexia pull her luggage, and as they walked and talked, Orcas brought up the rear of the group, seemingly serving as a lookout and rear guard.

The group left the building beside the airfield and made their way along a shaded path through the woods.

The cool and damp breeze was refreshing; since it was mid-August, the rain-inducing towers surrounding the Northern First District had temporarily ceased operation. Some rain managed to cross over the mountains and fall within the district. The rain of this season was much less toxic and no longer harmful.

After walking for about 500 meters, Hugh Neil halted his pace. It was then that Hexia realized they had arrived at the edge of a cliff. Beyond the cliff was a deep chasm, with steep walls on both sides.

"Wait here for a moment," Hugh Neil said, asking the three to sit briefly. He then took out a flute from his side and began to play at the edge of the cliff.

The melody spread through the wind, mingling with the cold mist before dissipating into the mountains.

Soon after, small black dots appeared in the distant sky, growing larger as they approached. When they were close enough to display their nearly ten-meter wingspan, the large birds dove straight down from the sky, then skillfully spread their wings to hover in place near the ground before landing gracefully.

"These are the Chestnut-Winged Falcons raised by the academy," said Hugh Neil as the six birds, taller than a human, walked over with ease. Their orange eyes and pitch-black pupils were particularly clear, distracting from the ordinariness of their plumage.

"Goo goo goo~" the falcons cooed around Hugh Neil, occasionally turning their heads or cocking them sideways to examine the new students.

"They belong to the Primordial Sequence 3 of transcendent animals and are very smart. I guess they've never seen Hexia and Orcas before, so they're a bit curious," Hugh Neil said while stroking one of the birds by his side.

"Once you get to know them, you can call upon them like I do. In the Northern First District, there's no freer way to travel than riding on their backs," he continued.

"Now let me help Hexia secure her luggage onto the backs of two of them, and then we can ride them back to the academy," he said.

"Okay," Hexia nodded, her gaze still lingering on the large falcons, curious.
