Chapter 5: Strategist in The Making
Vega didn't have time to explain when the ground began shaking violently. She looked unphased. She quickly finished her explanation, also explaining that the giant behind her was another member of their team. Jasper Santiego was quiet, his emotions only legible in his eyes. Dane could guess he was nervous at the moment, strange for a man of his size. He hid it very well. All three members of the New C.I.R.S. Field Departement now knew what their coming mission was. Now they had to deal with the fact that the building they were in seemed on the brink of collapse.
A buzz from a device given to Dane by Dr. Vega confirmed that this wasn't an earthquake. It was of Iotil origin. Dane felt more confident after his showdown with the cement monster. He felt he understood what was needed when fighting Iotils; quick thinking and insanity.
"Quick thinking and insanity. Quick thinking and insanity," he repeated mentally. He turned to Ivy. "I hope you don't have a problem with liars since I think I might have lied about seeing that cement guy again." Ivy nodded, her confusion overwhelming her fear. That was something Dane could use later. He turned around and ran toward the door. Jasper and Ivy followed .
Outside, the ground had risen into a stagnant wave. The wave had a huge crack that served as a mouth and two jagged circles for eyes. When the ground had shaken, Dane had a suspicion it was the cement monster but he couldn't understand how. He had killed it.
But had he? When had he ever seen an Iotil die?
As his thoughts swirled a steel beam flew toward him like a tentacle. It came in collision with something inhuman, a giant whose body bent the steel around it. Jasper's body was red where he had been hit but no serious damage was done. With a slight grunt, he yanked the tentacle out of the ground. He turned to Dane as if to ask what was next.
"That's right, I'm the most experienced here. Of course they'd think of me as the leader" That made Dane a little nervous but he pushed it down. Jasper was another asset he could use in this fight. "That makes two," he thought "Ivy's confusion seems to be overwhelming her fear so she's more likely to listen. Jasper's inhuman body could also come in useful." The cement monster was too busy flailing its tentacles to notice that his prey was present. This gave Dane ample time to think. There were two possible reasons as to why the creature was still alive: One, Iotils were immortal and couldn't be killed due to originally being objects or two their life core had to be injured for them to be killed. The latter theory came from the fact that a life core was the only thing that seemed to separate an inanimate object from an Iotil. The fact that a life core's properties affected the Iotil's development proved this.
Dane laughed at the idea that flashed in his mind, crazy filled his eyes.
"Jasper, hold it off for me. Protect Ivy as well."
The titan nodded as he grabbed a tentacle that flew toward Dane. The latter thanked him and ran toward the cement beast. He shot a round of bullets at the creature, he knew it wouldn't hurt it but that was not his goal. The creature screamed, opening its mouth widely.
It's now or never! Dane thought, kicking off his back foot and diving into the creature's jaw
