Chapter 119: Surprised Date!

~Third POV~

[Afternoon, UA Highschool, Heights Alliance, Japan]

After being explained by Mirio about the experience of Work Studies, Class 1-A all returned to Heights Alliance with class over for the day. Some were discussing on the first floor as Ochaco spoke curiously with her female classmates, "Wonder what's gonna happen… Sensei said they're still on the fence about letting first-years do work studies."

Mina, nodding her head with Tsuyu, Kendo, and Momo nearby, replied in an interested tone, "From Togata's speech at the end there, it sounds like being the best is pretty epic."

Everyone nodded as Momo added, pulling down her hair in a neutral tone, "All we can do is wait for Aizawa Sensei's approval."

They all nodded as they pondered what to do for their work studies once they'd been given the clear. Meanwhile, this was going on, and the faculty of the school was discussing whether the first years should be allowed work studies…

[Next Day, UA Highschool, Class 1-A, Japan]

Everyone in Class 1-A has arrived at the classroom, waiting patiently as Aizawa enters the class, informing them of the news in a stoic tone, "Morning class. Let me first bring up an important announcement. So, we had a conference about potential work studies for the first years yesterday. Plenty of teachers, even the principal, said, 'Don't even think about it.'"

Kirishima exclaimed in a surprised tone at the news despite what happened yesterday, "Huh? Even after the whole demonstration we got?!"

Denki simply nods his head, understanding the views that opposed the idea, muttering out loud, "It makes sense, though, given what led to the dorm system in the first place…"

Aizawa simply nodded, understanding their point, but explained stoically the outcome of the conference, "But some believed that the overprotective direction we're going in won't foster strong heroes. As such, we will allow agencies with proven track records that offer work studies to take on first years. That's our decision."

Understanding his words, the class began whispering using their connection from the Pro Heroes from their internship. Listening to the conversation, Ren's thoughts focused on other things in a serious tone, 'If I remember correctly, during the weekend is when Eri would escape Overhaul. I have about that time to rescue her away.'

Thinking of the possibility, Ren considered his options of using his contacts of the previous Pro Heroes he studied under in a serious tone, 'Still though who should I ask for my Work Studies with my connections…'

The thought occurred as he visualized three people from his internship. Mirko, Lady Nagant, and Ryukyu appeared.

Ren tried to think of the pros and cons of working while rescuing Eri or contemplated going to Nighteye Agency. But before Ren could think more on the subject, Aizawa spoke up, getting his attention, "Oh, right. Ren, the principal, finally got you the pass to work on enhancing a person's Quirk with their consent and permission. When you refine a person's Quirk, tell this to the principal immediately, depending on how to send the news."

Hearing that, the class got excited at the idea. For a while now, Ren couldn't be able to enhance his classmate's Quirks due to waiting for the green signal from Nezu of people being informed of this.

Ren knew that would bring a hassle but knew it was a necessary one. Proving his worth other than All Might's Successor and bringing his worth, he nodded his head with a sly grin on his face, "Thanks for telling me, Aizawa-Sensei. I'll be sure to get to it as soon as I can, but I'll need to check their background myself to see if they're worth improving. And many other things…"

He only nodded as some of his classmates finally got the chance to refine their Quirks. At first, though, everyone wanted this chance, but a few were on the fence about the idea of changing their Quirks because it would throw all their efforts away in the current stage of redoing their techniques or abilities.

But for now, everyone's attention was drawn to Aizawa as he said stoically, "With that said, it's time for class to begin."

[Lunchtime, UA Highschool, Lunch Rush, Japan]

Having the chance to ask Mirio with Tamaki and Nejire nearby, Ren said to him bluntly, "Excuse me, Togata Senpai, is it possible for you to have me ask Sir Nighteye to work study under him."

Mirio blinked, as did Nejire and Tamaki, with Ren asking their friend a favor. Mirio, managing to get himself together, asked curiously, "You want me to ask Sir Nighteye if he'll let you do work study with him?"

Ren nodded his head, with Mirio asking curiously, pointing at himself and addressing him to use All Might, "But why use me as the middleman? If you went to All Might directly, I bet he'd be thrilled. Sir Nighteye is always staring at those old clips of him."

Rubbing the back of his head, Ren explained in an embarrassed tone, answering Mirio's question, "Yeah… no. From what All Might said, they kind of separated on a bad foot, and he would have no right to face him. And is also one of the faculty who was opposed to allowing first-years to do work studies. I would learn a lot from his sidekick that even All Might lacks."

Mirio stared deeply into Ren's eyes, hearing his genuine honesty. He then asked curiously, pointing at him, "Right well… what sort of hero do you hope to become…?"

Hearing his question, Ren smiled lightly as he replied to Mirio's question in a confident tone, "No matter what kind of trouble someone's in, I'll smile strong enough that no one has to worry. A hero that says I'm here for them, ready to save the day."

Mirio eyes Ren carefully before finally raising a thumbs up with a smile on his face, "Quite the scattered mission statement I've got no reason to refuse. Let's do it and explain the timetable during the weekend."

Ren smiled, thanking Mirio, discussing the date to prepare his work study. When he was done with the necessary objective, Ren turned his attention to Nejire, asking in a sheepish tone, "And finally to you, Nejire. I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about my status before, nor have I tried reconnecting with you."

Nejire merely smiled innocently as Ren took a seat next to her, cutely, saying, "No worries, Ren-kun. I know you had your reasons, but I'm glad you came. Here, let's exchange our contact info."

With them being occupied, Tamaki, seeing their display, muttered tiredly, "It seems like Nejire is close to him, eh, Mirio-san."

Mirio nodded his head, seeing their interaction as he widened his grin cheekily and said, "Oh, big time. I recall her saying she went on a date with him. She seemed so happy that their relationship was progressing. This is the sign of the power of youth."

Tamaki had his eyes widening following his words, gazing at Ren and Nejire's conversation. Both seemingly have a fun time as Nejire soon asks a question, catching Ren's attention, "Say, Ren, are you planning to have your clones do the work-study as well as you did for the internship? Oh! Also, can you talk to that frog girl Tsuyu if she may be interested in work-study with Ryukyu? I can tell she'll fit in nicely."

Nodding his head, Ren agreed, making sure to inform Tsuyu later when available…

[Afterschool, UA Highschool, Class 1-A, Japan]

*RING*

*RING*

The school bell rang, indicating the end of school as everyone from Class 1-A was packing their things to return to their dorms. Upon doing so, Mina smirked as she came over to Ren's desk and asked, "Hey, Yuki! Are you free tonight?"

Raising an eyebrow, confused by her question, he replied honestly, "Uh, well, I guess I don't have any plans."

Mina grinned a bit wider as she answered cheekily, turning to Tsuyu and asking, "I'll take that as a yes! How 'bout you Tsuyu?"

Tsuyu placed her finger on her cheek as she replied bluntly, "Yeah, I'm free. Ribbit."

However, with a grin and wave of her hand, Mina responded, leaving the two stunned at her happy tone, "Great! Because I'm not! Have fun on your date!"

Both froze as they couldn't process what had just happened. But Mina had just set Asui and Ren up on a date.

Leaving right away, this caught Ren's attention as the class processed what had just happened with varied degrees of expression. This made Ren jump going after Mina as Tsuyu blushed at what just happened…

[UA Highschool, Hallways, Japan]

Managing to catch up to Mina as she set them up on a date, Ren asked in a surprised tone, "Mina! What did you just do?!"

Raising her arms together, crossing at the back of her head, she replied in a cheerful tone, stating the obvious, "Exactly what it looks like, stud. I just hooked you up on a date. You're welcome, by the way."

Genuinely blushing, Ren asked curiously for this sudden action from Mina, "Why, though? I mean, Asui is really nice, cool, cute, and stuff. But all of this is just sudden?"

But that was when Mina dropped the bomb on him, causing Ren to freeze in place of her words in a confident tone, "Oh, come on, I've seen you naked. Have a little more confidence. Besides I made a new hole in place. Relax, Yuki, only me, Toru, and a few of the girls use it. So don't tell Momo."

Recalling such an event happened before, Ren sighed after taking a deep breath and replying in a tired tone, "I… I don't even know how to react to all of this. Suddenly, Asui just became the least of my worries."

But Mina's joking nature vanished as she answered him the truth, getting his attention as she explained herself in a serious tone, "Jokes aside, I need you to go on this date. Ever since we moved into the dorms, I can tell something has been bothering her. But she won't say anything. And you know how hard to read she can be, so the others don't suspect a thing. But I just have this gut feeling something's off."

Understanding where she was going, Ren bluntly said in a confused tone, "It sounds like you want me to spy on her."

That offended Mina, she exclaimed in an offended tone, arms raised to the air, "No, ya dunce! You're missing the point!"

She soon got too personal in his space as she jabbed her finger at his chest, demanding in a serious tone, "Take her to a movie. Go to karaoke. Grab some dinner. Just show her a good time."

Expressing some doubt on his face, Mina's eyes squinted as he explained in a calm tone, exhaling a sigh, "Sigh… I was quirkless before I started UA, so most of the people at my school tried to use me as a punching bag. And the only dates I've been on are Nejire, Toga, and Momo. Even then, I'm not that good socially when I'm on dates, usually showing off something I doubt Tsuyu would like…"

Seeing his genuine honesty, Mina grinned as she replied, grabbing her friends to assist him proudly, "Worry not, Yuki! For me, Mina Ashido has the perfect solution! Tada!"

Dragging from the side were Kinoko, Toru, and Toga as Ren muttered confusedly, "Toga, Komori, and Hagakure?"

Ren blinked as the girls waved with eager grins on their faces as they explained their plan…
