Chapter 9: Nomu?
Ren walked towards the sleek black car parked in the driveway, its polished surface shining under the moonlight.
He twirled the keys Mirko had tossed to him earlier and opened the driver's door, sliding into the seat. The interior smelled of leather and something floral—Mirko's perfume.
As he sat down, his hands went to the steering wheel. He might not have driven in this world, but in his previous life, cars were nothing new to him.
It was strange how he remembered little about his life before he became Ren, yet he knew he used to drive cars. Ignoring his thoughts, he turned the key, and the engine roared to life.
"Smooth," he murmured.
He adjusted the mirrors and pressed the clutch, testing the feel of the car. Ren didn't recognize the brand or the car, but if it belonged to Mirko, it had to be top-notch.
"Figures," he muttered. "Rumi would only give me the best of the best."
As he backed out of the parking space and headed toward the exit of the villa, his heart raced. He was out of Mirko's clutches, at least for now. Not like he didn't want to bury himself in her breasts, but being a caged bird wasn't his style, even if he was a sugar baby.
Just as Ren was about to drive through the villa gates, Tsunagu stepped in front of the car. Ren hit the brakes, rolling down the window as the butler approached.
"Remember, young man, you're to grab your things and come straight back," Tsunagu reminded him. "No detours, or the mistress won't like it."
To anyone watching, it might have seemed like Tsunagu cared about Ren's safety. But Ren wasn't fooled. He could see through the butler's composed demeanor. This wasn't about concern for him—it was about Mirko.
Mirko's obsession with him ran deep. After all, he was her "sugar baby." If anything happened to him, it would devastate her, and Tsunagu didn't want to deal with the Mirko's craziness if that happened.
Regardless, Ren wasn't a fool to throw away his life. Sure, he had dangerous plans, but none of them involved a coffin for him.
"Of course," Ren replied. "I'll be back before you know it."
Tsunagu's sharp eyes lingered on him for a moment longer before he stepped aside.
"Good. Drive safe."
Ren gave him a little wave and hit the gas. The car sped down the driveway. His relaxed act dropped the moment he was out of sight, and a sly grin took over.
"Straight back, huh?" he muttered to himself. "Yeah, right."

Tsunagu stood by the gates of the villa, his eyes fixed on the taillights of the car as it disappeared into the distance. His composed expression didn't waver, but once the vehicle was out of sight, a sly smirk appeared on his face.
After ensuring no one was seeing him, he pulled out a phone, dialing a number from memory. The phone rang once before a smooth, feminine voice answered.
"Yeah?"
"The boy has left," Tsunagu said. "Make sure he doesn't make it back. Ever. But take care—I don't want any mess that will lead Mirko to me."
"Consider it done... for the price, of course."
Tsunagu disconnected the call, deleted the call records, and slid the phone back into his pocket, letting out a quiet chuckle.
He turned back toward the villa, walking as if he owned the place. If his plan succeeded, it wouldn't be a far-fetched dream.
"Poor, naive little Ren," he murmured. "Mirko may be obsessed with you now, but once you're gone, she'll need someone to fill the void. Someone reliable. Someone... like me."
His smirk widened as he imagined it—Mirko, broken and vulnerable, turning to him for comfort. And when she did, he would claim her, along with her wealth, power, and influence.
"All according to plan," he whispered, stepping back into the villa.

Ren drove around the outskirts on the empty road. Unaware of the chaos Tsunagu had brewed for him. He wanted to check the damage within the city from a safe distance first.
But his peace didn't last long.
The authorities blocked the exits throughout the city. No one could leave, forcing Ren to turn back and get a closer look instead.
As he neared the city, the faint sound of sirens reached his ears. Emergency vehicles sped past him. It seemed the entire city had mobilized its forces to confront the issue.
Ren had read and watched enough manga and anime to know where the story was headed.
Something big was happening.
In a week he had been there, Overhaul had never caused such a ruckus before. It was strange he would do something on such a big scale, especially with his relationship with the hero society.
Unless it involved Eri.
That was the only reason Ren could think of Overhaul losing his crap. Still, he didn't think Eri could escape on her own, since there was no one to help her.
Eventually, Ren's curiosity won over the concern of safety and he turned off the main road, following the chaos. It didn't take long to find the source of all the trouble. But it wasn't anything Ren could've thought of, even in his wildest nightmares.
A hulking, grotesque figure stood amidst the rubble of a shattered building. Its skin was an unnatural gray, and its muscles moved in humanly impossible ways. Sparks of electricity danced across its back as it slaughtered anyone in sight.
"A… Nomu?" Ren whispered, slamming on the brakes.
It couldn't be. All For One was imprisoned in a vegetative state, and without him, creating Nomu would have been impossible. Yet Ren knew the hulking creature before had to be a Nomu.
Heroes were already on the scene. Ren spotted many familiar and unfamiliar faces. Some heroes were directing civilians to safety while Osprey zipped through the air, firing precise feather projectiles to distract the creature. Mirko was also there, fighting the Nomu alongside Endeavor.
But their efforts seemed futile. The beast just shrugged off attacks that would have brought lesser foes to their knees.
Ren stayed frozen in his seat, gripping the wheel.
"This… doesn't make sense," he muttered. "How is this even possible?"
