Chapter 30: Chapter 30: New Quirks
As soon as the awards ceremony began, I was asked to stand on the topmost platform, number one. Midoriya was placed lower down, in second place, and Todoroki in third. Although, Katsuki could have stood there, but he was so furious about everything that happened that he left the festival. It seems like All Might tried to stop him, but that's not certain, because he came to receive the medals.
- Good job, young Koji! You showed yourself to be the best and rightfully took first place. But, don't relax! This victory must not blind you!
I nodded. I wasn't going to argue with that. The festival was just a kids' show.
Anyway, it was finally over. I got a medal. Fireworks colored the sky, and the pesky paparazzi never stopped taking pictures...
Afterwards, the whole class, except for Katsuki and Iida (whose brother was attacked by the Hero Killer), returned to the classroom and Aizawa said a few words.
First of all, two days off. Not bad.
Secondly, Aizawa will write up recruitment proposals for professional heroes for us. The first internship is coming up. Very timely. I wanted to spend two days on Momo and my new quirks, and then move on to someone interesting...
I think this Festival affected many people. My brother, Midoriya, Todoroki, and the others, to varying degrees. However, it didn't affect me, at least not psychologically. Still, I didn't experience anything special. I'm not sure if I attracted a lot of attention or if my results didn't really surprise anyone. But, the results of others surprised me a little. My existence has been increasingly influencing events, and I'm sure that the day will come when everything will go wrong. So, I have to be prepared.
In the evening I walked the tired Momo home and then returned to my place, going upstairs first.
Katsuki knocked, but he didn't answer me. I knew he was home, but...
- Hey. Brother... Are you there?
...
I sighed, but then said:
- I'll make dinner. Don't worry about what happened. Train more and crush it. Giving up isn't your style.
...
Katsuki still ignored me. Hmm...
Well, I did everything I could... If I keep pushing him, it won't get any better. He's a real grenade. He'll accumulate anger and then he'll let it out in due time. I had no doubt in him, he'll overcome it. Midoriya did him a big favor.
Returning to the kitchen, I started cooking. Since Mom was away, we had to share the responsibilities with Katsuki. Although, her cooking was still better than mine. I hope she comes back soon.
Having finished dinner, I ate and went to my room.
Well, it's time to start spending the points you've earned...
*
The first thing I did was collect the rewards from the last quests, including Regeneration and the Steal quirk.
As usual, I was slightly shaken, and then I absorbed a strange scarlet haze and it was all over.
Overall, I didn't notice any changes. It's unlikely that Regeneration x1 will change me much, so I didn't even risk cutting myself to check anything.
As for Theft...
Focusing my gaze on one of the books on the shelf, I held out my hand, and then, as if by magic, it rose into the air, after which it moved quite quickly into my hand.
Not bad... Although it's not telekinesis, it's better than nothing, considering that this quirk cost a whopping 20,000 points in the store.
The main advantage of this quirk is "stealing" something from the hands of opponents. Even if they are holding an object tightly, the quirk will still allow you to take it.
After practicing with a dumbbell for a while, I realized that the weight of the object cannot exceed five kilograms, and the size must correspond to my grip. That is, if I cannot hold the object, then I will not be able to steal it. It is possible that if I can develop this ability, the weight will increase.
Interesting quirk. Useless now, but could be useful for something in the future. I'll develop it little by little.
Okay, let's move on...
Now I had 113 thousand points on my account. A decent amount, but there is a problem...
After spending twenty thousand on DNA Expansion, I had 93 thousand left, which meant that I wouldn't be able to aim for the "elite" quirks.
Although, I don't think it's that necessary...
The USJ incident showed how necessary the intelligence quirk is. If you can track down a target, it can help you gain not only time, but also potential development points. And even after the festival, it would be worthwhile to occasionally "check" the surroundings just in case.
Well, in general it wouldn't hurt, certainly in the Training Camp, in order to quickly get to the villains. I wouldn't mind dealing with a few there and thus weakening the League. Of course, I can hardly handle Tomura, but I can spoil the plans of the VZO. Even if it hurts future missions and canon, I think it's worth it.
Of course, I knew that if I prevented the League from capturing Katsuki, then that famous battle between All Might and All For One might not happen. But why would I stand aside when my brother was in danger? Even if he was saved, so what? There was a possibility that his life would be in danger, and I couldn't ignore that.
Controlling the environment is very important. Teleportation would also be nice, as would a quirk like Dispersion. Search would also be nice, but it's more of an observation quirk than a reconnaissance quirk. I'll definitely take it in the future, because it'll come in handy for controlling the state of my women, and it wouldn't hurt to know where the enemies are.
In general, even if there aren't hundreds of thousands of points, it's not scary, and all because the intelligence quirk in the store was relatively cheap and I could buy more than one of them.
First of all, I focused on hearing and touch. There were a lot of auditory quirks, but clearly not all of them suited me. The same Keen Hearing, for example, allowed me to hear high frequencies. Useful? Quite. Useful? Possibly, but...
There were more suitable ones, but basically all of the mutation type, and the auxiliary ones were extremely cheap and ineffective. Although...
Well, that means I'll have to take this...
- Sensor → 50,000 points.
Am I taking a risk? Mostly yes, and that's because I've barely heard about the true power of this quirk's owner. He was from China and used his quirk to catch a lot of criminals. How and in what way is unknown. It seems like he "felt" them, even "understood their motives", but that's all. China didn't really share news about its "heroes" with the world.
But is it worth passing by a potentially interesting quirk? I don't think so. And I didn't really strain myself at the Festival. If the risk pays off, it will be good, but if not, it will be my own fault and I will never do it again.
You can't always be absolutely sure of your choice, can you? The main thing is that this quirk didn't change the user's body. I was absolutely sure of that. The system emphasized such things.
Okay, let's begin...
