Chapter 31: Michael or Not?
An Hour Earlier
Just as Michael left to confront the Chitauri army, Mia walked toward the meeting room, pausing just outside as she stood there. The tension in the air was heavy, but a sudden commotion inside caught her attention.
"What is that?" someone yelled.
"Is that... an alien invasion!?" another voice exclaimed in panic.
"Are we under attack? Damn it, alert the authorities!"
The chaos escalated as Rose, Michael's mother, glanced out the window to see Chitauri forces descending from the sky. Her heart raced, but she quickly tried to call Michael. Before she could dial, something else caught her attention—a bodyguard standing out of place, acting suspiciously.
He was closing the room doors and then stood there. She looked around as she saw the other door was closed too by another guard.
"What are you doing?" Rose asked sharply, narrowing her eyes at the man.
The bodyguard smirked, his demeanor too relaxed for someone in the midst of an alien invasion. He just loooked at another guy, rose turned to look at him as she saw it was one of the board of directors.
She asked " what is the meaning of this? "
"Isn't this the perfect opportunity?" he said slyly.
"What do you mean?" Rose demanded, stepping back cautiously. Though if one looked at her, they will find her stance was ready for any fight. And even her act of caution is nothing but an façade, as her hand reached for the pen on table.
"A perfect opportunity to kill you all and claim the White Company for ourselves," he replied, his tone cold and calculated.
Rose's stomach churned as realization dawned. These men were using the chaos of the invasion to stage an attack from within. She recognized the man as William, one of the newly appointed directors brought in after her husband's tragic death.
"You traitors," she spat.
William scoffed. "Traitors? Hardly. We're spies planted here by the Greymore family. How can we betray you when we were never on your side to begin with?" His laugh was mocking as two others—Jack and David—stepped forward to join him.
Rose's heart raced. It became painfully clear that these three directors were spies from a rival faction, planning to take down her family while the invasion provided a convenient cover.
"You're insane," Rose said, her voice trembling with both fear and anger.
"Insane? No, just practical," William replied with a smirk. He gestured to the bodyguards around him, who drew their weapons. "Goodbye, Rose. It's been a pleasure."
Before the men could act, Rose sprang into action. Her combat training kicked in as she dodged the first strike, disarmed one of the guards, and snapped his neck with precision. She spun around, using the fallen guard's weapon to block another attack before delivering a deadly blow to the second attacker.
The room erupted into chaos, but Rose was relentless. Her movements were sharp and efficient, taking down each threat as they came at her. Within moments, the guards lay lifeless on the ground, as a pen was visibly embedded in his neck.
After her husband death she knew she has to do something to protect her children, so she started taking training too, not just her even her eldest child also started training with her, she knew after her Husband death she could no longer believe in any one but herself so she train everyday until she could now fight even professional fighters easily.
William, Jack, and David stared in shock, frozen in place. Before they could react, Mia appeared at the doorway. Her eyes glowed with power, and her hands were encased in crimson energy.
Rose stepped back, catching her breath. "Mia... this is—"
"I know," Mia interrupted, her voice calm but laced with menace. She raised her hands, summoning crimson bands of dark magic that ensnared the three directors. They struggled, but their efforts were futile.
"Should I end them?" Mia asked, turning to Rose for confirmation.
Rose hesitated, the weight of the situation pressing down on her. Then, remembering her late husband and all her family had endured, her expression hardened. Her voice was cold as she nodded.
"Kill them all," Rose said firmly.
Mia's gaze darkened, but she obeyed without hesitation. The crimson bands tightened around the directors, constricting their necks. Their gasps for air grew weaker as the magic crushed their throats. Within moments, their lifeless bodies fell to the floor.
Other directors who had been watching from the sidelines froze in fear, their faces pale. Mia turned to them, her voice sharp and threatening.
"If anything about what happened here leaks out," Mia said coldly, her crimson energy flaring ominously, "you will all be dead."
The room was silent, save for the soft crackling of Mia's magic fading away. As she walked out, Rose glanced at the terrified directors. She didn't need to say a word; Mia's message had been delivered loud and clear.
Rose walked out of the room with Mia, her expression a mix of relief and exhaustion. Mia glanced at her and smirked slightly.
"That was good. Your training finally bore results," Mia said, her tone teasing and complementary.
Rose stopped abruptly and turned to face Mia, crossing her arms. Her eyes narrowed. "Since when?"
Mia paused, her expression unreadable. She knew lying wouldn't help. With a resigned sigh, she began to spill everything—the secrets she'd kept, including those involving Michael.
Rose listened intently, her expression growing darker with every revelation. When Mia finally finished, Rose asked in a sharp tone, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Mia met her gaze steadily. "Would you have believed me?"
Rose fell silent. Deep down, she knew Mia was right. If Mia had come to her with these claims out of nowhere, she would have dismissed them without a second thought. But now, witnessing the truth in action, she couldn't argue.
After a moment, Rose's voice softened, though it carried a weight of determination. "Where is he?"
Mia replied " he is in your Office"
