Marvel: The Sorcerer in America

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Magical Confrontation

With full focus, Lance prepares himself, ready to face the most challenging test of his career as a Sorcerer.

Kaecilius is the type of person who is ruthless and not very talkative. After opening the mirror dimension, Kaecilius doesn't even give Lance a chance to speak.

Kaecilius immediately swung the hook and scythe he held. The cold light from the weapon pierced the air, directly aimed at Lance's throat.

Lance quickly turned and jumped back. As he landed, Lance extended his fingers and moved swiftly within the void.

A shimmering talisman formed almost instantly. However, Lance did not attack Kaecilius—he instead slapped himself with his palm.

"Your talisman-making skills have improved rapidly!" Kaecilius praised with a cold smile.

With a light movement, Kaecilius waved his hand between the hook and scythe. Suddenly, a magical net formed, connecting the two weapons into one.

Kaecilius's body then spun quickly forward, causing the scythe and hook, initially meant for close combat, to be thrown with the extending magical tether. They moved like fiery shackles blazing in the air.

The first lesson in Kamar-Taj: the essence of magic is not to create something from nothing, but to exchange it for an equivalent value.

There is a price to pay for using magic. The Ancient One once said: "Using magic is like striking. The person struck will feel pain, but the one who strikes will feel it too. The harder you strike, the deeper the pain you inflict upon yourself."

The same applies to Magic Spells. The higher the level of the Magic Spell, the greater the price that must be paid.

Long-term exposure to magical energy will alter the human body—not for the better, but rather for the worse.

For example, Doctor Strange in later periods, due to frequent use of magic, could only sleep for three hours a day. After that time, nightmares would cause his soul to collapse.

Strange also suffered from a stomach ulcer the size of a rat in his belly, making it impossible for him to digest ordinary human food.

Strange could only consume disgusting magical creatures. According to Strange himself, anyone who saw him eat would surely experience nightmares.

This is just one of the consequences of the shock of magic. The sorcerers themselves cannot create magic; they must borrow power from the Demon Gods in higher dimensions.

This process can be considered like a loan. Each time a high-level spell is cast, it is equivalent to adding a new bill.

Every bill must be paid.

Fortunately, lighter white magic is accepted by most Sorcerers in Kamar-Taj. Its source, the Vishanti, allows for installment payments, and the cost is not too high, making it acceptable to the Sorcerers.

Black magic is very different, even worse than loan sharks.

There is a very famous black magic expert in the world of magic, named Monako, nicknamed the "Prince of Magic." Although Monako uses black magic, he is a very kind person. Monako often travels the world to help others as a wandering Sorcerer.

Because the cost of casting black magic is very high, Monako must seek sacrifices to alleviate his pain.

However, Monako cannot kill people for that, so he decided to keep a group of rabbits as sacrifices at home.

But ordinary rabbits do not satisfy the Demon Gods. Monako must pour love and attention into those rabbits, raising them as if they were his own children. Then, each time Monako submerged a rabbit in water with his own hands, he could release the black magic.

Every time Monako did this, he felt deep pain, as if he were killing his own child. Only in this way could the Demon Gods in higher dimensions feel satisfied.

Due to such serious consequences, Sorcerers must train their bodies to become tougher when practicing magic. Only a sufficiently strong body can withstand the pain from the backlash of magic.

At the same time, the Sorcerers infused some uncontrollable magic into objects to create powerful magical weapons that could be used at any time.

Examples include the 'Staff of the Living Tribunal,' equipped with incredible destructive power, the 'Vaulting Boots of Valtorr,' which allow the user to jump in the air, and the 'Wand of Watoomb,' which can unleash a vast amount of energy. There are many other similar weapons.

The scythe held by Kaecilius is also a very powerful magical weapon. Lance's magical shield was almost destroyed by a previous blow, and its destructive power was clearly evident.

Uh... actually, talismans can also be considered magical weapons. 'Talismans' is the collective name for various magical weapons, known for their simple and external use.

Lance used his own aura to inscribe several spells onto the talisman, aiming to achieve what he envisioned.

Talismans also serve as proof of identity. After Lance received the talisman, he would be recognized by the 'Fragments of Heaven.' Only talismans given by messengers from the Fragments of Heaven possess the fundamental power to avoid magical backlash.

Of course, even though 'Heaven' also exists in this universe, the immortal beings and the Demon Gods who have been exiled to other dimensions by the Sorcerers may not be willing to accept pressure from the messengers of the Fragments of Heaven.

Back to the main issue.

Kaecilius's 'Crimson Bands of Cyttorak' stretched five to six meters long, considering the space of the shop. Every object that the magical ribbons passed through was incinerated. Most of the beautiful decorations in the mystical shop were destroyed almost instantly.

"Thank goodness this is just a mirror dimension; otherwise, I would be very stressed..." Lance muttered with a sigh of relief. He knew how dangerous that object was if touched.

However, at this moment, Lance was trapped in the room. Unless he could jump out of the window, he had to find a larger way out.

There is a way!

"In the name of Krakkan, Chains of Krakkan, blockade!"

Lance's pupils slightly contracted as his fingers quickly formed seals. His spiritual power transformed into several blue chains that intertwined up and down, forming a solid wall of chains. The chains sealed Kaecilius and the fiery shackles within.
