As the conversation shifted, Peter found himself quieting down, his fingers lightly tapping against his cup. The weight of what Nova had just shared sat heavy in his mind. A mutant ability that could grant wishes? That was huge. And Nova had just told them without hesitation. No secrets, no hiding. Just trust.
Then there was Ned's secret—well, his family's secret, but still.
Peter swallowed hard.
Meanwhile, I've been keeping something secret for months…
His jaw tightened as he remembered the stolen Lizard Serum formula hidden away in his room. He hadn't planned to take it. It had been an impulse, a mix of panic and curiosity, maybe even selfishness. At the time, he told himself it was the right thing to do—his key to becoming powerful.
Peter had always prided himself on his intelligence, his hard work. But the moment he saw the formula, he hadn't hesitated to steal someone else's research, someone else's years of effort, just because he could. It wasn't about stopping anyone from using it—it was about having it for himself.
And what have I even done with it?
Nothing.
It sat locked away, untouched, a constant reminder that he wasn't as honest or as principled as he liked to think. And now, sitting here, watching Nova and Ned share their secrets so freely, Peter felt something twisting in his chest.
I can't keep pretending this doesn't exist.
Taking a deep breath, he placed his cup down and spoke before he could talk himself out of it.
"Alright," he said, his voice quieter but steady. "Since we're being honest here… I have something to confess too."
Nova, Harry, and Ned turned their attention to him, curiosity flashing in their eyes.
Peter hesitated for only a second before exhaling. "I… stole something."
Ned blinked. "Wait, what?"
Peter rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly feeling small under their stares. "From Dr. Connors' lab. I stole a formula—his Lizard Serum formula."
Silence.
Harry raised an eyebrow. "…Why?"
Nova, however, simply smiled to himself. Good. Now I can directly change the sad outcome without any uncomfortable questions.
Peter let out a humorless laugh. "That's the thing. I don't even have a good reason." He clenched his fists. "I'd love to say I did it to protect people, to keep it safe, but… that's not the full truth."
His gaze dropped to the table, shame burning in his chest.
"I took it because I wanted it. Because I saw something brilliant, something I didn't make, and I wanted it for myself. And I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway."
He expected anger. Judgment. Maybe even disappointment.
Instead, Nova simply asked, "And what have you done with it?"
Peter exhaled. "Nothing. I've just… kept it. Locked away. And every time I think about it, I feel like a fraud."
Harry leaned back, arms crossed. "So, let me get this straight. You stole it, never used it, and now you're feeling guilty?"
Peter nodded stiffly.
Harry sighed. "Dude. That's not as bad as you think."
Peter's head snapped up. "What?"
Ned nodded in agreement. "Yeah, man. I mean, yeah, stealing is bad, but like… you didn't sell it or anything. You didn't even use it. You just freaked yourself out over it."
Peter blinked. "So… you guys aren't mad?"
Nova shook his head. "No. But I do think you need to figure out what you're going to do with it. You can't just sit on something like that forever."
Peter exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing just a little. "Yeah. I know."
Ned smirked. "So, what's the plan? Destroy it? Study it? Try to fix it?"
Peter shook his head," I don't know. Say Harry what should we do with it? Afterall it's from your father's company. Besides I am pretty sure I can create the serum from the formula. So?"
Harry's expression darkened the moment Peter mentioned his father. His jaw clenched, his fingers curling into fists. There was a shift in the air—one that made both Ned and Nova tense, immediately sensing something deeper behind the reaction.
Peter frowned. "Harry?"
Harry exhaled sharply through his nose, forcing himself to stay calm, but there was no hiding the bitterness in his voice. "You want to know what we should do with it?" He let out a dry, humorless laugh. "I don't care."
Peter blinked. "You… don't care?"
Harry leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "That formula? That serum? It came from my father's company. And anything that came from my father's company is already poisoned."
The room went quiet.
Nova remained silent, observing, while Ned hesitated, unsure of what to say. Peter, though, could feel there was more—something deeper, something personal.
Harry clenched his fists. "You want to know why I don't care? Why I don't give a damn about that serum? Because my father—Norman Osborn—is the reason my mother killed herself."
Silence.
Peter's stomach dropped. Ned's mouth opened slightly in shock. Even Nova, who rarely seemed surprised, watched Harry with a more serious expression.
Harry let out another bitter laugh, shaking his head. "No one talks about it. No one knows the real story. My father made sure of that. He made sure the world only saw what he wanted them to see—the brilliant, untouchable Norman Osborn."
He exhaled shakily, his fingers digging into his palms. "My mom… she was sick. Not physically—mentally. And instead of helping her, instead of supporting her, my father called her weak. Told her to stop being pathetic. He treated her like a broken tool—something defective. Something that needed to be fixed."
Peter swallowed hard.
Harry continued, his voice quiet but laced with anger. "She tried. She really did. She fought to hold on. But it wasn't enough. One day, she just… couldn't anymore." He clenched his jaw, his voice shaking slightly. "And my father? He didn't care. He barely even reacted. He just moved on—like she never even existed."
Peter felt something heavy settle in his chest. "Harry, I… I didn't know."
"Yeah," Harry muttered. "You weren't supposed to."
Ned shifted awkwardly. "Dude, that's… I don't even know what to say."
Harry leaned back in his seat, his expression hardening. "There's nothing to say. My father was a monster. A cold, calculating monster who only cared about power and control. And now you're asking me what we should do with one of his damn experiments?" He scoffed. "I couldn't care less. But let me tell you all something."
All three friends looked at each other. Ned asked hesitantly," What?"
Harry said," My father died last night."
Silence fell over the room, heavier than before. Peter, Ned, and Nova all stared at Harry, their eyes widening in shock. For a moment, no one knew what to say.
Peter's breath caught in his throat. "Wait… what?"
Ned blinked rapidly. "Died? As in… dead?"
Harry nodded, his expression unreadable. "Yeah."
Nova's gaze sharpened. He didn't react outwardly, but Peter could tell he was processing this information carefully. "How?"
Harry exhaled, rubbing his temple. "Genetic disease. It's something that runs in my family—something my father knew about but never told me. He thought he could cure it, that he could outsmart it like everything else in his life. But in the end, it got him."
Peter's mouth felt dry. "Harry, man… I don't even know what to say."
Ned hesitated before saying, "Are… are you okay?"
Harry let out a humorless chuckle. "That's the million-dollar question, huh?" He leaned back against the couch, staring up at the ceiling. "I don't know, guys. I should feel… something, right? Sad? Angry? Relieved?" His lips pressed together. "But mostly? I just feel numb."
Peter frowned. "I mean… he was still your dad."
Harry scoffed. "Was he? Because honestly, it never really felt like it." His jaw clenched. "He wasn't a father, Peter. He was a dictator. A scientist who saw people as assets or liabilities. And me? I was just his heir, his backup plan. Not his son."
Nova, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke. "And now that he's gone?"
Harry was silent for a long moment before sighing. "Now? Now I inherit everything." His voice was filled with something between bitterness and exhaustion. "The company, the projects, the expectations. A legacy built on control, greed, power and," Harry paused and then continued," also the genetic disease."
Peter felt like the air had been knocked out of his lungs. Of all the things Harry could have said, that was the last thing he expected. He exchanged a glance with Ned, who looked just as shaken. Even Nova, who rarely seemed litlte surprised, watched Harry with an unreadable expression.
Peter swallowed hard. "Wait… you mean—"
Harry nodded, his expression carefully controlled. "Yeah. The same disease that killed my father? It's in me too."
Ned's face paled. "But… but there's gotta be a cure, right?" He glanced at Nova. "I mean, you have all your Wish power right?! Harry just need to wish for his genetic disease to go away. Right! You can do it right?!"
Everybody turned and looked at Nova hopefully.
Nova didn't respond immediately. His eyes locked onto Harry's, analyzing, calculating. He can make some major changes, this is an excellent opportunity.
