Chapter 95: Marvel 95
"And they will surely try to heat you up," Max added with a sly grin, causing Bruce to look at him, his brow furrowed.
"You speak like you're sure they'll attack me," Bruce said, raising an eyebrow.
"They will. And it'll be a big distraction to get Loki out," Max replied, leaning back in his chair. "And when I say big, I mean BIG."
As if on cue, the sound of rapid footsteps echoed from the hallway. Bruce tensed, his gaze darting toward the door.
"As I said, they tend to go big," Max remarked nonchalantly just as several figures burst into the room. A group of agents rushed in, all of them eerily uniform with glowing blue eyes, clearly under Loki's mind control.
Max stood up smoothly, his demeanor calm but his eyes sharp. "Mind-controlled agents. Classic Loki."
Without hesitation, Max summoned a wave of darkness, shadows swirling around him like a living entity. The tendrils lashed out, striking the agents with precision, knocking them unconscious one by one. Bruce watched, startled by the effortless efficiency of Max's attacks.
In moments, the room was silent again, the controlled agents sprawled on the floor. Max dusted off his hands, as though it was nothing more than a routine task. "See? Big distraction. Too bad for them, I am here."
Bruce shook his head, still processing what just happened. "You are right, just keep them out, I can control myself but against a bullet coming at me, I will lose control"
Max shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. "What can I say? with me here there won't be any such scenarios."
Bruce nodded as he moved to the side and sat down, while Max also calmly took a seat and begin to use his Mist Ruler ability. The room slowly began to filled with black mist, thick and eerie, emanating from Max. Bruce noticed the strange sensation and asked, "What is this?" as he reached out to touch the mist. The moment his hand passed through it, it felt numb, as though his senses were being stolen.
"Mist magic. Abyssal Mist," Max replied nonchalantly. "It robs one of their senses."
Bruce frowned as he pulled his hand back, flexing his fingers until the feeling returned to normal. "This kind of magic... it's truly powerful," he said, a hint of awe in his voice.
Max nodded slightly. "Yeah."
Bruce chuckled, though his tone turned serious. "I'm just glad it's yours. If it belonged to someone else, we'd be in trouble. They wouldn't bother giving any justification—they'd just take the cube and vanish. But you... you make them stand still and explain why the cube is safer in your hands," he said, a hint of admiration in his tone.
Max smirked at Bruce's words. "Maybe," he said simply, closing his eyes. The mist began to swirl and expand, creeping out of the room. Through the haze, Max's focus sharpened, and his senses extended beyond the room's confines. He pinpointed the chaotic energy radiating from the Mind Stone, observing agents fighting under Loki's influence as they scrambled through the base.
Max continued to move his mist through the facility, gliding silently from one section to another. Along the way, he incapacitated agents under Loki's control while assisting the unaffected ones. Hidden among them were Hydra agents, cleverly disguised, but Max identified and eliminated them without hesitation.
Eventually, he reached the control room, where he found Fury locked in combat with mind-controlled agents. Fury was holding his own, but the sheer numbers were overwhelming.
Max's mist flowed into the room, coiling around the attackers and pulling them back. The mist began to solidify, taking shape until Max emerged from it in his full form, standing tall and calm. Fury turned, his expression a mix of relief and astonishment.
"You're a sight for sore eyes," Fury muttered as Max's mist receded, leaving the incapacitated agents crumpled on the floor.
Moments later, Fury said taking a breath. "What is this mist?" Fury asked as the black fog swirled back toward Max, who stood calmly.
"It's my magic," Max said as the mist coiled around him and joined him.
Fury nodded as he looked at his sides where he saw a wound " A bullet just grazed me"
Max tilted his head with a faint smile. "you rest, I've got it."
"Good," Fury said, his tone sharp. "Just keep them contained. We don't need any more casualties."
Max leaned back. "I'm dealing with the Hydra agents, too," he said bluntly.
Fury's brow furrowed. "You can handle Hydra on top of this?"
Max nodded. "I can sense them. Hydra agents often carry subtle markings, their 'symbol of loyalty,' even in disguise. It's easy to spot them."
Fury let out a slow exhale, his expression softening. "Then handle them."
Suddenly, the base's comm system crackled to life, and an urgent voice rang out. "They've breached Section C1!"
Fury stiffened as Tony's voice came through next. "I'm heading down to fix this. Don't worry—I've got it covered."
Fury nodded firmly, meeting Max's gaze. "Go after Loki," he said,
Max gave a casual shrug, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "I'm already on it," he replied. Without another word, his misty form dissolved into thin air, vanishing as his presence swept toward another section of the helicarrier.
When Max arrived at the new area, it was already too late. Loki had pressed the button, and Thor, now trapped in a reinforced cage, was plummeting from the helicarrier. Max walked closer, seemingly unbothered by Loki's actions, not making a move to stop him.
Loki turned, a sly grin on his face. "You're not going to stop me?" he asked, curious at Max's calm demeanor.
Max's gaze followed the cage as it disappeared from sight. His tone was as casual as ever when he replied, "Would it even matter? Attacking your illusions seems like a waste of time."
Loki raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Max's insight. "You can see through it?" he asked, surprised. "Even my brother struggles to see past them."
Max's smirk widened slightly as he met Loki's gaze. "Your tricks are good, but they're not perfect," he said coolly.
