Chapter 71: Ch.70: Mission Accomplished

Ural Mountains, Hydra Secret Base, February 5, 1944
Naga and Vayu moved silently through the dense forest, the cold air biting at their skin. The entrance to the Hydra base was heavily guarded, but the two agents were well-prepared. Naga, with her stealth and shapeshifting abilities, blended seamlessly into the surroundings, while Vayu used a stealth device along with his wind manipulation powers to mask their presence.
"Ready?" Naga whispered, her voice barely audible.
Vayu nodded, his eyes focused. "Let's do this."
They approached the first checkpoint, where Hydra guards stood vigilant. Naga shifted her form, taking on the appearance of a high-ranking Hydra officer they had previously captured. She walked confidently towards the guards, who immediately snapped to attention.
"At ease," she commanded, her voice authoritative. The guards relaxed, allowing her to pass. Vayu, invisible in the shadows, followed closely behind.
Inside the base, the corridors were dimly lit and filled with the hum of machinery. Naga led the way, her senses heightened. They encountered several patrols, but each time, Naga's shapeshifting abilities and Vayu's control over the wind allowed them to slip by unnoticed.
They reached the secure room where the Darkhold was kept. Naga placed her hand on the biometric scanner, her form shifting to match the authorized personnel. The door clicked open, and they slipped inside.
The object they assumed to be the Darkhold was kept in a secure container covered with ancient runes which sat on a pedestal, its dark energy palpable. Naga retrieved a lookalike imitation from her pocket, the space enhancement runes glowing faintly. She carefully swapped the imitation with the original, ensuring the switch was seamless.
Aryan and Karna had planned to replace the Darkhold with an imitation as they knew Fury would be able to locate the Darkhold with the help of the vampires and would use whatever tricks he had up his sleeves to get his hands on the artifact to research it. They knew Fury had very limited knowledge of the supernatural and would not be able to identify if the Darkhold was real or fake. When he finally handed over this imitation to the noble vampire, he would know immediately that it was a fake and the distrust between the two would grow, making them wary of each other and damaging their cooperation in their future plans against the metahumans and Bharat. It was a simple plan but effective, based on the fact that as of now the relationship between Fury and the supernatural is only in a testing phase, where both parties are only testing their limits of cooperation and a blow at the trust between them at this point will be a bad precedent for their future relations.
"Got it," she whispered, her eyes meeting Vayu's as she safely stored away the artifact, having been extensively warned of its corruptive properties on a person's spirit and mind.
"Let's get out of here," he replied, his voice tense.
As they made their way back, the base's alarm suddenly blared. "Intruders detected!" a voice shouted over the intercom.
"Move!" Vayu urged, using his wind powers to propel them forward. They raced through the corridors, dodging guards and security measures. Naga shifted forms rapidly, confusing their pursuers.
They burst out of the base and into the forest, the cold air a stark contrast to the heated chase. Vayu summoned a gust of wind, lifting them into the air and away from the Hydra base.
"Mission accomplished," Naga said, a hint of relief in her voice.
"Let's hope this buys us the time we need," Vayu replied, his eyes scanning the horizon as they flew towards safety.
New Delhi, KAVACH Headquarters, February 7, 1944
Naga and Vayu soared through the night sky, the cold wind whipping past them as they made their way back to New Delhi. Vayu's wind manipulation powers carried them swiftly and silently, ensuring they remained undetected. The journey was long, but their determination kept them focused.
As they approached the outskirts of New Delhi, Vayu guided them towards a secluded area where a hidden entrance to the KAVACH base awaited. They landed softly, their feet touching the ground with barely a sound. Naga's senses were on high alert, scanning for any signs of danger.
A small, camouflaged hatch opened, revealing a narrow staircase leading underground. They descended quickly, the hatch closing silently behind them. The corridor was dimly lit, the walls lined with advanced security systems. They moved with purpose, their mission far from over.
At the end of the corridor, a heavily fortified door awaited. Naga placed her hand on the biometric scanner, her form shifting to her original appearance to make her authorization clear to the scans. The door clicked open, and they stepped inside the secure room where Karna and Aryan were waiting.
Karna, the Assistant Director, a tall and imposing figure, greeted them with a nod. "Well done," he said, his voice filled with pride. "You have done KAVACH and Bharat a great service."
Aryan, standing beside him, smiled warmly. "Your efforts will not go unrewarded. The artifact is safe with us, and our plan is in motion. I hope everything went smoothly as we had envisioned."
Naga handed over the Darkhold, her eyes meeting Karna and Aryan's. "Thank you, sire, for the praise. We encountered some resistance, but we managed to complete the mission," she said, her determination and releif showing at the success, as she further recounted detailed accounts of the events and the challenges they faced during the mission.
Karna took the artifact, his expression serious as he finished listening to the detailed debriefing. "You both have shown exceptional skill and bravery. Your dedication to KAVACH and Bharat is commendable."
Vayu, still catching his breath, nodded. "We will continue to serve with all our strength."
Aryan placed a hand on Vayu's shoulder. "Rest now. You have earned it. We will need your skills again soon."
As they left the secure room, Naga and Vayu felt the weight of their accomplishment. Their mission had been a success, and they had played a crucial role in protecting their homeland.
