Chapter 51: One-Eyed Nick
"Trying to escape? Not so easy!"
In a flash of blue light, Ned appeared in Ronan's command room. Through his mask, he looked at the shocked Ronan and his lieutenant, smiling as he spoke.
"Shoo!"
"Bang!"
Ronan's lieutenant attempted to attack Ned with a laser gun, but the shot was blocked by an invisible shield about a foot away from Ned, scattering faint blue sparks.
"Ronan, you're done for."
As Ned spoke, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. Thankfully, the Mask of Agony allowed him to survive and operate in space without suffocating, or else this mission would have ended badly for him.
"Supreme Sorcerer, let me leave, and I promise no Kree will ever dare to act recklessly on Planet C-35 again."
The name of the Supreme Sorcerer was widely renowned throughout the galaxy. Many cosmic overlords had heard of her, and Ronan was no exception.
Yet, while the title carried weight, very few had actually seen her, let alone fought her and witnessed her true strength.
Thus, despite the Supreme Sorcerer's fame, Ronan didn't take her too seriously. Without hesitation, he brought his fleet to Earth.
Now, faced with the overwhelming power of Captain Marvel, Ronan was desperate to retreat with his fleet. But Ned had used the Tesseract to lock down space, making any attempt at warp jumps impossible.
Looking at Ned's attire, Ronan quickly thought of the famed Guardian of Earth—the Supreme Sorcerer. Cautiously, he spoke up.
"I am not the Supreme Sorcerer, but you're still doomed."
As Ned spoke, he tossed the Tesseract into the air, summoning the Holy Sword of Vishanti and charging forward.
Given the environment of space, Ned could have simply created a large portal to slice Ronan's battleship in half, which would have killed everyone on board, including Ronan.
But Ned didn't want to miss the rare opportunity to face off against one of the galaxy's most formidable opponents.
With Carol providing backup and the Tesseract always at the ready, Ned was confident he wouldn't face any danger.
So, he temporarily gave up his greatest advantage and entered the battleship for close combat with Ronan.
"Bang!"
Ronan swung his Kree war hammer horizontally, blocking the flaming greatsword aimed at him by Ned. Feeling the strength behind the blow, Ronan let out a sigh of relief. While Ned was powerful, his physical strength wasn't enough to challenge Ronan, a non-human powerhouse.
Thinking this, Ronan glanced at the Tesseract hovering above. He knew it was the source of the power preventing his ship from warping.
Earlier, he hadn't considered snatching the Tesseract because he believed Ned to be a formidable opponent. But now…
"Buzz!!"
"Bang!"
Ronan moved his hammer slightly, sending Ned flying backward in an instant.
Seizing the opportunity, Ronan leaped into the air and successfully grabbed the Tesseract.
"Ha! Thank you very much."
Looking down at the fallen Ned, Ronan held the Tesseract in one hand and sneered.
"Well, alright then."
Ned had anticipated that he might not stand a chance in close combat, but he hadn't expected to be so utterly overpowered.
Resigned, Ned extended his right hand. A flash of blue light appeared, and in his hand, fitted with the Infinity Gauntlet, was the real Tesseract, radiating a bright glow.
"What?!"
"F***!"
Ronan froze upon seeing the Tesseract in Ned's hand. He quickly realized something was wrong and tried to throw away the "Tesseract" in his own hand.
"Boom!!!!"
The "Tesseract" in Ronan's hand exploded just as it was about to leave his grasp. The immense energy engulfed the entire battleship, and countless Kree soldiers were reduced to nothingness by the devastating blue light, their faces frozen in confusion.
Thankfully, just before the explosion, Ned used the real Tesseract to teleport himself away. Otherwise, he would have been reduced to dust with not even a trace left behind.
From Carol's perspective, Ned, who should have been dead, suddenly reappeared, now wearing a strange mask. Then, he vanished just as quickly.
Moments later, Ronan's battleship was engulfed in a blinding blue light. The terrifying glow was identical to the Tesseract's energy, confirming to Carol that Ned had gone after Ronan.
When the light faded, the once-massive interstellar battleship had completely disappeared, as if it had never existed in the vast emptiness of space.
"You idiot brother?"
Carol stared at the now-empty void, her heart sinking as she whispered.
"Oh? What did I just hear? What did you say?"
Before Carol could react, Ned appeared beside her with a mischievous grin.
"You… hmph!"
Carol snorted coldly, turning her gaze to the remaining Kree ships. "Do you want to handle them, or should I?"
To Carol, these supposedly fearsome interstellar warships were nothing more than toys, unworthy of serious consideration. She glanced at Ned as she spoke.
"I'll do it. It'll be faster if I handle it."
As Ned spoke, several clones of himself suddenly materialized. Each clone began casting spells, opening massive portals that hovered over the Kree warships.
The portals then closed abruptly, cutting the ships cleanly in half. Naturally, all the Kree onboard perished as well.
"Let's head back."
Seeing that the matter was resolved, Ned turned to Carol.
"Alright."
Carol nodded but was stopped by Ned grabbing her arm as she prepared to fly back down.
"Hm?"
Carol looked at Ned, puzzled.
"With this, why bother exerting yourself?"
Ned gestured to the Tesseract in his hand. In the next moment, a flash of blue light transported both of them to the grassy yard of Maria Rambeau's home.
"Wow!"
As soon as they appeared, an exclamation rang out, followed by Nick Fury's voice: "Could you two at least give me a heads-up next time? You scared the hell out of my Goose."
Naturally, Fury wasn't about to admit he had been startled. He placed the blame on the orange cat and held it in his arms, bringing its face close to his own. "Isn't that right, Goose?"
As Fury spoke, he rubbed his forehead against the cat, causing Talos, who was standing nearby, to look visibly uneasy.
And sure enough…
"Meow!"
With a sharp cry, Goose swiped its paw across Fury's left eye.
"Ahhhh!!"
Fury let out a pained scream.
"You okay?" Maria Rambeau asked, wincing slightly at the sight.
"Motherf—!
I'm fine. Just a scratch." Fury replied as he brushed it off, oblivious to Talos and his wife subtly shaking their heads. After all, Goose wasn't just a regular cat—it was a Flerken!
