Chapter 21: Shiro’s Shikotsumyaku
Yugao, Natasha, and Hawkeye cautiously pushed open the heavy door. As it fully opened, they were greeted by an extraordinary sight—a vast chamber with a towering ceiling, at the center of which stood a massive pile of dragon bones resembling a hill. The bones emitted a faint glow, creating a mystical and thrilling atmosphere.
However, what made the room feel far smaller was the sheer number of people already gathered there. On one side stood Daredevil and Stick with about twenty ninjas of The Chaste, ready for battle. On the other side were four of the Five Fingers of The Hand—Madame Gao, Sowande, Alexandra Reid, and Murakami—standing elegantly and surveying the situation.
Directly in front of the dragon bones stood another member of the Five Fingers, who appeared to be overseeing the ritual. Scattered around the room, two hundred of The Hand's ninjas stood guard, their weapons reflecting the faint glow of the dragon bones. In another corner, Kingpin exuded authority, accompanied by ten mercenaries who were former Navy SEALs.
"I didn't expect them to gather this many people," Natasha whispered, her eyes fixed on the dragon bones.
Yugao, maintaining a relaxed demeanor but with sharp, vigilant eyes, spoke quietly through her communicator. "Main body, we need backup here. This place is packed, and I'm not sure three of us can handle this."
Naori's calm voice responded in Yugao's earpiece. "Shiro is on her way. You know what to do, right? Stall them as long as possible."
Yugao sighed and gave a small shrug. She then stepped forward with a wide smile that seemed completely out of place in such a tense situation.
"Ah, Madame Gao! Kingpin! How wonderful to see you both here. It feels like it's been ages since we've all been in the same room. How have you been?" Yugao waved like an old friend greeting long-lost acquaintances.
Madame Gao gave a small nod with a polite smile. "Yugao, you always bring such an interesting energy wherever you go. It's a shame that a group like Kaguya Hime chose to align with SHIELD."
Kingpin, in his deep, steady tone, added, "Indeed, quite unfortunate. With your skills, you could have gotten far more than whatever SHIELD is offering. Are they truly giving you a better deal than us?"
Yugao chuckled lightly, her hand casually fiddling with her vape pod. "Oh, don't misunderstand. SHIELD just happened to offer a much higher number. After all, business is business, isn't it?"
As the conversation unfolded, a faint rumble echoed from the direction of the dragon bones. The final tremor had subsided, and the remaining buried bones had fully surfaced, forming a complete structure. The mystical aura in the room intensified, causing everyone to tense up.
The member of the Five Fingers responsible for the ritual stepped forward, joining their comrades. The Hand's ninjas raised their weapons in unison, ready to receive the order to attack. The tension in the room rose further, like a bowstring stretched to its limit.
Suddenly, light footsteps echoed from the entrance. All eyes turned toward the source, and there stood Shiro. She wore a loose kimono that seemed as though it might slip off with a gust of wind, yet it somehow stayed perfectly tied as she walked gracefully. Her expression was calm, her gaze vacant as always, exuding an aura of mystery that was both captivating and intimidating.
Shiro strolled forward nonchalantly and stopped beside Yugao, Natasha, and Hawkeye. Yugao furrowed her brow and spoke, "You came alone? What's your plan in a situation like this?"
Shiro pulled a small white pill from her pocket and held it out to Yugao. "This is a prototype of the Shikotsumyaku replica," she said softly. "This pill allows the user's chakra to transform into hardened bones. While it's still imperfect, it should suffice for this situation."
Yugao stared at the pill with disbelief. "You really trust that tiny thing?" she asked.
Shiro didn't answer. She simply swallowed the pill calmly and turned her gaze directly toward The Hand's ninjas. The aura around her shifted, and a faint cracking sound, like breaking bones, began to emanate.
"Alright then," Yugao said with a long sigh. She gripped her vibranium staff, Enma, tightly and smiled. "Looks like we're about to cause some chaos here."
Natasha tightened her grip on her weapons, and Hawkeye readied his bow. Across the room, The Hand's forces also began to move. The situation was poised to erupt into an all-out battle at any moment.
…
At the center of the room, surrounded by the dragon bones, the five members of the Five Fingers of The Hand—Bakuto, Murakami, Sowande, Alexandra Reid, and Madame Gao—finally gathered. Their intimidating aura shifted the atmosphere of the underground chamber into something oppressive. Among the hundreds of The Hand's ninjas in the room, these five figures stood as the core of their power, underscoring the seriousness of the operation.
"Incredible," Stick murmured, standing beside Daredevil and several members of The Chaste. He hadn't expected The Hand to stake their entire organization on this pile of dragon bones. Even Kingpin, usually brimming with confidence, appeared startled at the scale of the operation.
"I don't like this," Kingpin said, adjusting his suit. "Their numbers are too great. Even with my mercenaries, our chances are slim."
"Numbers don't matter if you know where to strike," Natasha Romanoff replied casually, spinning a small knife in her hand. Clint Barton beside her nodded, though his eyes remained alert, scanning the advancing ninjas of The Hand.
Elsewhere in the room, Yugao and Shiro stood among the sea of enemy forces preparing to attack. Yugao's face was tense, but she maintained her trademark smile. "Wow, this feels like a festival. Too bad I forgot to bring fireworks," she quipped, resting Enma on her shoulder.
"Stop joking," Shiro said flatly. Her cold eyes surveyed the scene carefully. "This isn't an ordinary fight. They're serious."
Sowande, appearing to act as the temporary leader of The Five Fingers, stepped forward. "Do you think you can defeat us?" he asked mockingly. "You don't even know what you're up against."
"Oh, of course. Five of you against the two of us? I'm flattered," Yugao replied nonchalantly, though her eyes narrowed as she saw the five members of The Hand begin to concentrate their energy.
Shiro raised her hand, stopping Yugao from activating Enma. "Let me try something first," she said quietly.
"What's your plan?" Yugao asked skeptically.
Shiro simply looked at her with a vacant expression. "I'll clear this place in less than thirty seconds."
"Of course," Yugao muttered, shrugging. "Just don't make me clean up your mess later."
Shiro let out a long sigh before stepping forward. She stared directly at Bakuto and the others, seemingly unaffected by the swarm of ninjas moving around her. "Since you wish to die, let me grant your wish," she said coldly.
Then, without warning, Shiro loosened her kimono until it hung around her waist, revealing her upper body covered only by a simple black bra. Her pale, porcelain-like skin shimmered under the dim light.
Yugao, standing behind her, clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Tsk, you call me a pervert, and yet you pull stunts like this! At least wear a sports bra or a tank top, you exhibitionist!"
Clint Barton, who was pulling back his bowstring, froze momentarily. His eyes widened before he quickly shook his head, as if trying to erase the image from his mind. "Oh, come on! Focus, Barton! Focus on the job!" he muttered, thinking of his wife back home.
Natasha raised an eyebrow at Shiro. "Seriously? What is she doing?" she asked Yugao.
Yugao merely shrugged casually. "She likes drama. Just wait, you'll be surprised."
Suddenly, sharp white bones began emerging from Shiro's skin, piercing through the surface without leaving a mark. The bones protruded from her ribs, arms, and joints, forming both armor and deadly weapons.
Shiro placed her hand on the ground. Within seconds, hundreds of sharp bones erupted from the floor, forming a deadly forest around The Hand's ninjas, Kingpin's mercenaries, and even some members of The Chaste. Screams of pain echoed as bodies were impaled by bones harder than steel.
"Just wait a moment; it won't take thirty seconds," Shiro said flatly, as if what she had just done was trivial.
Yugao shook her head, whistling softly. "Always making a statement, aren't you?"
Shiro didn't respond. She continued moving gracefully through the forest of bones she had created. Her movements were as elegant as a ballerina's, yet every step and swing of the bones from her body brought death to anyone who dared to approach. The remaining ninjas of The Hand tried to attack her, but they fell one by one, powerless against Shiro's lethal onslaught.
As seconds passed, the number of casualties grew. In less than twenty seconds, the room was almost silent. Only Yugao, Shiro, Natasha, Clint, Kingpin and two of his mercenaries, Stick, Daredevil, a surviving member of The Chaste, and the Five Fingers of The Hand remained.
Shiro turned to them with her usual vacant expression. The bones protruding from her body slowly receded, leaving her skin flawless once more. She pulled her kimono back over her shoulders with an elegant motion.
"Well," she said calmly. "Shall we continue?"
No one answered. Bakuto and the others exchanged glances, their faces showing rare signs of tension. Even Madame Gao, typically exuding confidence, was momentarily at a loss for words. The bone forest had been too sudden, too deadly.
Yugao grinned, twirling Enma in her hand. "So, who wants to go first? I'm sure Shiro still has the energy to do it all over again."
Clint swallowed hard, lowering his gaze and muttering something under his breath. Natasha sighed, gripping her pistol more tightly.
