Chapter 395: Cloned
Then, Zane fused the power of the Phoenix with the B-level skill, [Rat Talisman], which he had drawn long ago but never used except once.
He aimed this fusion at the black walnut-like divine core and began experimenting.
After countless attempts, he finally succeeded in anthropomorphizing the divine core.
The later ability, [Spear of the Mind], originated from this process and could be considered an upgraded blend of the [Rat Talisman] and the Phoenix's power.
This ability could disrupt the thoughts of living beings, planting intrusive and chaotic ideas in their minds. It could also grant lifeless objects temporary vitality, giving them the capacity to move and experience emotions.
Thus, the divine core transformed into a being that looked exactly like Zane but had a ferocious and volatile demeanor—a "killing machine" version of Zane.
Seizing the moment when this killing-machine Zane had just awakened and was still disoriented, Zane immediately used the [Mangekyou Sharingan] on him.
Two blood-red triangles reflected in the being's eyes, dragging him into the illusory space of [Mangekyou Sharingan].
Zane knew that although this killing-machine version of himself appeared human, directly killing him wouldn't yield a soul for conversion. The entity would simply revert to the black divine core, stripped of the [Rat Talisman] imprint, and return to Zane's mind.
The only solution was to seal "him" in the [Mangekyou Sharingan] space, which shared the same origin as Zane, to prevent power loss and a collapse of his strength into an eight-dimensional decline.
Moreover, Zane believed that once he "killed" this primordial god of the Marvel Universe—[Death]—the black divine core left behind by its former life would either vanish completely or transform into pure energy that Zane could absorb without adverse effects.
The current results proved Zane's theory correct:
The anthropomorphized divine core trapped in the [Mangekyou Sharingan] space instantly transformed into pure energy when [Death] was sealed in the [Totsuka Blade], merging seamlessly with Zane's body.
At the same time, Zane became the sole god of death in the Omniverse, the ultimate confirmation of his success.
At that moment, the vast cosmic space Zane occupied began to flood with countless souls, numbering in the billions.
Even the conversion speed of Zane's [Divine Realm] couldn't keep up with the overwhelming influx.
Most of these souls, gripped by fear and uncertainty about the afterlife, were dragged to Zane by the sheer force of his presence. This caused them to pile up chaotically, filling the expanse with noise and chatter, turning the once-vast space into what felt like a lively marketplace.
Zane stared at the scene, momentarily at a loss. Then, he recalled the words of the previous [Death] and quickly deployed his eight-dimensional ultimate move—Descent of the Divine Realm.
One by one, radiant spheres of light enveloped clusters of souls.
As the souls came into contact with these luminous spheres, they immediately fell into a state of unconsciousness, devoid of any awareness or emotion.
Zane finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, a humanoid soul unexpectedly sneaked out of one of the radiant spheres. Moving furtively, like a thief, it stood out starkly from the other souls due to its peculiar behavior.
That soul had been hiding on the outermost edge of the universe.
Unexpectedly, Zane's faintly glowing [Divine Realm] stars enveloped it along with the surrounding souls in an instant.
Once the souls around it had all fallen silent with closed eyes, this one soul quietly slipped out from the far side of a star, away from Zane's direct line of sight.
Emerging from the star, the soul smugly made a grotesque face in Zane's direction, clearly amused with itself.
It assumed that the dense, overwhelming sea of stars and the boundless expanse of space would obstruct Zane's view, making it difficult to notice its escape.
But to its shock, Zane, suspended in midair, gazed at it with blood-red triangles spinning in his eyes, piercing through the infinite stars to lock onto it.
Then Zane's voice thundered: "Come here!"
Realizing it had been caught, the soul abandoned any futile resistance and yielded to the pull of the force binding it.
In the blink of an eye, it appeared before Zane.
The soul then bent forward respectfully, bowing deeply with a solemn expression.
Rising cautiously, it looked at Zane in astonishment and asked, "Huh? Why are you a man now?"
Zane instantly understood the subtext of the soul's words and replied flatly, "So, you've not only died before but also escaped before, haven't you?"
He moved closer to scrutinize the soul. Only then did Zane notice its features—eyebrows, nose, and eyes like a typical human from Earth. However, Zane could tell this soul likely wasn't from the same region or culture as his former life.
Its arched eyebrows, sharp hooked nose, amber-yellow irises, and an unmistakable aura of mischief suggested that, even in life, this soul had likely been an oddball. It resembled a peculiar Earthling, possibly someone from a distant region known for eccentricity.
As Zane observed the soul, it returned the scrutiny without fear, studying him intently. After a while, its face lit up with an expression of sudden understanding.
"I get it now..." it said, moving closer to Zane with a sly grin. "You're playing some new game, right, my Lord of Death? Decided to switch to being a man for a change of pace?"
Zane shoved the soul away in disgust and said mockingly, "You certainly know a lot for a mere soul."
"Unfortunately for you, I'm not the [Death] you're thinking of."
"Really?" The soul tilted its head, looking at Zane again. After another moment of scrutiny, it sighed and said dejectedly, "Then you must be her new favorite plaything, huh? Or has she officially elevated you to her partner?"
"Forget it. I don't even want to know who you are anymore."
Zane smirked coldly and said, "If you're so curious, how about I send you directly to meet your beloved [Death] goddess?"
Boom!
A dense black light began forming in Zane's hand, aimed directly at the soul.
But just as Zane was about to strike, a sudden flash of insight surged into his mind.
Zane quickly traced its source and discovered it came from the [Eye of Observation], stored within the [King's Treasury].
