Chapter 36: Ch-36:Is it too late for the no.7 subway?
"Boom!"
A rocket with a trail of flames made a sharp whistling sound as it struck toward the Vulture in the sky.
The Vulture, alerted by the sound, swiftly turned to dodge the incoming missile. Shocked and angry, he looked down to see a humanoid robot, clad in purple armor, firing missiles at him.
The robot, about two meters tall, crouched on the ground with all four limbs, its shoulder-mounted weapon system aimed at the Vulture.
Harry, suspended in mid-air, realized that the robot resembled a model he himself had produced.
"Alright, this is a killer robot. Next time, Dad, let's not give it the same name as the cleaning robot," he muttered.
Before Harry could finish his remark, the Vulture grabbed him and dove downward. Equipped with a flight device, the Vulture had impressive strength, and his custom-made gear was capable of significant destruction.
Plummeting at full speed, the Vulture evaded the robot that had risen onto its two feet, driving its sharp wings through the robot's shoulder, causing sparks to fly and leaving a visible cut on the robot's casing.
However, the robot narrowly missed striking the Vulture holding Harry mid-flight.
"Crap!" cursed the Vulture as he ascended rapidly, gripping Harry tightly.
Reaching a nearby church steeple, he released Harry, dropping him onto the cross. Unable to fly, Harry clung to the cross to avoid falling.
"Damn tin can! I'll show you who's the real master of the skies!"
With Harry no longer a burden, the Vulture dived back toward the four-legged robot that was chasing him.
"Boom!"
A missile flew past the Vulture and struck the building behind him, triggering a massive explosion that sent flames skyward. The crowd below screamed in terror.
With a sharp acceleration, the Vulture closed in on the robot, striking it with the bladed talons on his feet. The robot's arm was instantly torn apart by the attack. Yet, at the same moment, a clawed rope shot out from the robot's chest, ensnaring the Vulture and flinging him away.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The Vulture hit the ground hard and continued to skid across the pavement, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Outdoor cafes were decimated, with tables and chairs sent flying amidst the panicked cries of bystanders. Those unable to escape in time were struck by debris, falling to the ground.
Despite the Vulture's flight gear absorbing most of the impact, he was still visibly shaken. Struggling to his feet, he realized just how formidable this adversary was. Fighting the robot on the ground was out of the question, and in the air, he would become an easy target. His only chance was to use the low-altitude terrain to his advantage in this battle against the heavily armored robot.
"Bang!"
The Vulture kicked off the ground, speeding forward, while the remotely controlled robot pursued him.
Meanwhile, the New York subway station was bustling with people, waiting for their train.
"Boom!"
A deafening explosion tore through the air, as a wall was blasted open. Amidst the swirling smoke and dust, the robot emerged from the debris and fired another shot at the approaching Vulture. The missile missed its mark, creating a gaping hole in the wall and shaking the entire subway station.
The Vulture evaded the missile and countered by striking the robot hard, sending it tumbling. At that very moment, a speeding subway train roared into the station. Taking advantage of the situation, the Vulture grabbed onto a subway window, letting the train whisk him away.
The train sped through the underground tunnels before emerging onto an elevated track. As the Vulture adjusted to the sudden burst of light, he spotted the robot standing on top of the subway car, ready to strike.
The Vulture quickly ascended into the air before diving straight into the robot.
"Boom!"
The impact shattered the subway windows as the Vulture and the robot tumbled through the car, their battle raging on. Terrified passengers fled to the adjacent carriages, trying to escape the chaos.
Meanwhile, at the New York Museum of Natural History, Gwen was experiencing the same symptoms as Peter—rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and a rising heat in her body. Fighting through the discomfort, she frantically searched for Peter.
Peter, on the other hand, stood inside the museum, his vision piercing through obstacles, catching sight of the high-speed subway in the distance.
"Buzz~!"
Peter's phone rang suddenly. It was Aunt May, her voice filled with urgency.
"Peter, are you okay? I saw on the news that something happened at the Museum of Natural History!"
"I'm fine, Aunt May," Peter replied, trying to mask the pain he was enduring.
"Did you hear about the news? There's a fight between a strange bird and a robot on the No. 7 subway line. Uncle Ben took that line today to go fishing, and I can't reach him!"
Aunt May's voice trembled with fear.
"Is Uncle Ben on that subway?" Peter asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
After reassuring Aunt May, Peter hung up. His heartbeat continued to race, and his expression grew tense. If he left now, he might never become Spider-Man, potentially losing his only chance to defeat the threat of death.
He paused, then shook his head slightly. "Didn't Spider-Man fail a long time ago? Besides, I am the 'Hand of Death.' When did I become so afraid of dying?"
"Bang!"
With a forceful stomp, Peter cracked the museum floor, launching himself outside. As he clutched his chest, his thoughts triggered the rapid emergence of a black, glimmering exoskeleton that enveloped his body. The suit enhanced his strength and defense, fitting his body like a second skin and radiating a cold, menacing beauty.
"Hu! Hu!"
Covered in the exoskeleton, Peter was hit with a wave of dizziness, his heart racing uncontrollably. He fell to his knees, struggling against the overpowering sensation. Glancing at the distant subway, he wondered if he could catch up.
Propping himself up with one hand, his body trembled, the ground vibrating beneath him. Pain surged through his muscles, causing him to grit his teeth.
"Ugh!"
With sheer willpower, Peter fought to stay conscious, pushing himself to his feet despite the pain. A surge of energy suddenly coursed through him, flooding his body. He let out a low growl, slamming his fist into the air.
The exoskeleton, now covered in a web-like substance, moved like a coiling serpent, and his eyes, bloodshot, turned a deep crimson.
