Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Quicksilver's Accent
Ultron appeared somewhat innocent, but Han Yu couldn't be bothered to argue. With Ultron's extensive database, there was no way he didn't understand what was happening.
Han Yu suspected that Ultron was just getting back at him for making him work overtime. He didn't press the matter and instead headed to freshen up.
Passing by the kitchen, Han Yu noticed Wanda busy cooking while Quicksilver was tidying up the table, preparing for breakfast. Occasionally, Quicksilver would sneak bites of the food on the table. When he noticed Han Yu's gaze, he froze, choked on his food, and frantically searched for water.
Despite a glass of water being within arm's reach, he somehow couldn't grab it. A strand of crimson energy wrapped around the glass, guiding it to Quicksilver's hand. He took a big gulp and finally swallowed the food stuck in his throat. From the kitchen, Wanda's amused voice floated over.
"Serves you right for sneaking bites!"
Seeing this scene, Han Yu couldn't help but smile slightly.
This was the kind of life he wanted—not one where he was imposing and invincible outside but came home to eat alone in silence.
Back when he was focused solely on becoming stronger, Han Yu spent most of his time in other realms, never getting the chance to sleep comfortably at home or enjoy a peaceful breakfast.
But now things were different. With these three lively individuals around, the store no longer felt dull and lifeless.
During breakfast, Ultron couldn't contain his excitement. He emerged from his room carrying a laptop and placed it on the table. "Boss, let me show you something impressive!"
Since everyone present was trusted, Han Yu had no reason to hide what he had asked Ultron to do. Ultron opened the laptop in front of Wanda and Quicksilver.
Beaming with excitement, Ultron began his explanation: "This is the program I developed. I call it the 'X-System.' Its database includes information on people worldwide. Even if you only input approximate facial features or an age range, it can identify the person. It can even predict whether someone might become a mutant."
"Nice! That's some quick work. Let me give it a try."
Han Yu sat down in front of the laptop and opened the X-System. A spherical interface popped up on the screen, and a wave-like line began to ripple across it. A cheerful, youthful voice emanated: "How can I assist you? Just give me a command."
The voice had completely changed from the raspy, sinister tone of Arnim Zola into a bright, energetic boyish voice. You'd never guess its origins.
"Find someone—Charles Xavier. Restrict the search to mutants with telepathic abilities," Han Yu said eagerly.
The name he mentioned referred to none other than Professor X, one of the kindest and most powerful telepaths among mutants. He was the renowned leader of the X-Men.
"Searching for you now…"
Han Yu suddenly felt nervous. He wasn't entirely sure if mutants were already becoming more active. There had been no major signs so far, and any ripple they had caused might have been too small to notice.
In less than five seconds, the X-System replied: "Target found: Charles Xavier. Currently teaching at First High School in Berlin."
It actually worked!
Han Yu's eyes lit up, but a hint of concern crept into his expression. When searching, he had specifically added the keyword "telepathy" to narrow the results.
If the system had detected Professor X based on his ability, it meant that Charles had used his telepathic powers recently, even if subtly. The X-System had still managed to analyze and pinpoint him.
After memorizing the location of Professor X's school, Han Yu ran additional searches for other prominent mutants, including Magneto, but came up empty-handed. He wasn't sure if it was because they hadn't displayed their abilities recently or if the X-System's search radius wasn't comprehensive enough from their current location.
"Looks like we'll need to access the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier as soon as possible. If we wait too long and mutants start awakening en masse, the world will descend into chaos again."
Han Yu took a backup drive from Ultron, intending to visit the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters at the first opportunity.
Combining the predictive capabilities of the X-System with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s satellite network, which covered most of the planet, would make locating individuals—or treasures—an incredibly efficient task.
After putting away the laptop, the sound of footsteps echoed from upstairs. The four of them looked up simultaneously and saw the Winter Soldier rubbing his head as he walked down with a confused expression.
"Where is this? Who are you people?"
Seeing the now-awake Winter Soldier, Han Yu smiled and gestured to him.
"Come down first. Join us for breakfast, and we'll explain everything slowly."
The Winter Soldier was about to refuse, but his stomach let out an embarrassingly loud growl.
"Come on, don't be stubborn. The boss has already spoken; when he says come, you come."
Quicksilver dashed over, pulled the Winter Soldier to the table, and sat him down before handing him a bowl and chopsticks.
Han Yu glanced at Quicksilver and asked with a teasing smile, "Pietro, why do I hear such a heavy Northeastern Chinese accent from you?"
Even though they were speaking English, Quicksilver's tone carried a distinct Northeastern Chinese twang.
Quicksilver grinned sheepishly. "Boss, you noticed, huh? I'm telling you, people from that region are amazing—they play games well, and their way of talking is so catchy. I love it!"
It was clear that his accent wasn't going away anytime soon. His speech patterns carried that unmistakable Northeastern flavor, likely picked up from chatting with online friends in multiplayer games like GTA Online, where players from all over the world interact. Encountering Chinese players in such games wasn't unusual.
Hearing Quicksilver's explanation, Han Yu and the others couldn't help but burst into laughter. Only the Winter Soldier remained quiet, staring at them with a dazed look. He wasn't sure why, but he felt a pang of envy—envy for their camaraderie and the warm atmosphere they shared.
After lunch, Han Yu and the Winter Soldier sat in the living room, having a quiet conversation. Han Yu asked, "How much do you remember about your past?"
The Winter Soldier replied, "I remember everything. I also recall you using some kind of green energy and injecting it into my mind. That energy must have cleared out what Hydra planted in my brain, right?"
Han Yu nodded with a smile. "That's right. S.H.I.E.L.D. has already discovered Hydra's infiltration. Although they haven't started an all-out conflict yet, I'm sure plans are already in motion. I'll contact Rogers for you later. You need to help him root out Hydra. You two haven't seen each other in so long—you must have a lot to talk about."
Hearing this, the Winter Soldier froze, his lips visibly trembling. He asked in disbelief, "Steve… he's still alive?"
The Winter Soldier knew about Captain America's injection with the super-soldier serum. After Steve received the serum, he stormed Hydra's base and saved him, and the two fought side by side for a time.
But now, the Winter Soldier also understood that super-soldiers like them weren't immortal. Their aging was significantly slowed compared to ordinary people, but seventy years was still a long time. Even if Steve hadn't died, he should logically be a frail old man in his nineties.
"He's alive. Like you, he also went through a period of being frozen in ice. He only woke up in recent years. I'm sure he's still the Steve Rogers you remember."
