Marvel: As Thor

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Mission Task: Prevent From Death

Bifrost carried Minerva and the injured Loki away, leaving Thor behind. This time, as Thor returned to Asgard, he knew he would soon slip into his usual lazy routine, a "fat house mode" as some would call it. Determined to make the most of his time before that, he resolved to trigger as many missions as possible to tackle them at his own pace back home.

Among his options, the most appealing was undoubtedly the group destined to become the original six Avengers.

Thor's experience with Natalia had taught him that even meeting a superhero before they reached their full potential could spark a new mission. However, the Avengers were far from assembled at this point. Captain America was still frozen in ice, Banner and Hawkeye were living quiet lives off the grid, and there were no leads to find them.

The only one within reach was Tony Stark.

At this moment in time, Stark had yet to don the Iron Man suit. He was at the height of his arrogance: narcissistic, reckless, and insufferable. Apart from being rich, there wasn't much to admire about him.

No one—except perhaps Thor—could foresee that this egotistical playboy would someday become a savior, a mortal standing shoulder to shoulder with gods.

Through some back-channel negotiations with S.H.I.E.L.D., Thor managed to secure a meeting with Stark. The price? A juicy bit of intel:

"Steve Rogers is alive, and so is the Red Skull."

Nick Fury's reaction was priceless. The first half of the revelation filled him with excitement, while the second half nearly made him lose his composure. Thor couldn't help but enjoy the chaos he caused.

The meeting was scheduled for the afternoon. However, true to his infamous unpredictability, Stark had other plans. A lunch date with a model turned into an extended rendezvous, and Stark ended up ghosting Thor.

Thor was furious.

He paced the room, cursing under his breath. "I swear, if you weren't destined to be the savior of this realm, I'd send you straight to the Far East to live out your days as an underappreciated royal eunuch!"

Thor finally understood why Aldrich Killian hated Tony Stark so much.

Suddenly, a notification from the system interrupted his rant:

"Task triggered: Iron Man Forever.

After the Killian incident, Tony Stark will consider retiring as Iron Man. However, during a future crisis, Stark will take up the mantle again, leading to the ultimate battle where he sacrifices himself by snapping his fingers.

Mission Objective: Prevent Tony Stark from retiring and ensure he remains part of the Avengers.

Reward:

Improved Extremis Formula: After Maya Hansen passes all Extremis data to Stark, he refines it into a safer formula. The new version eliminates the high-temperature explosion effect and reduces its physical enhancement properties. However, it significantly improves self-healing capabilities, making it one of the most effective regeneration solutions."

Note: This is an open-ended mission. Explore multiple paths to completion."

Thor blinked in surprise. He hadn't even met Tony yet, and the system had already assigned a mission related to him.

Reflecting on it, Thor realized that their "intersection" likely occurred through the missed meeting—an interaction of sorts. Missions, after all, had always seemed somewhat random. Natalia's mission only appeared after defeating Ronan, but it had triggered immediately upon meeting her.

Thor sighed as he reviewed the mission details. The reward was undeniably tempting. Extremis, alongside the super-soldier serum and Wakandan heart-shaped herb, was one of the most coveted enhancements in existence.

Unlike the other two, Extremis was scalable for large populations. The improved version, with its enhanced self-healing ability, could even form an army of soldiers with Wolverine-like resilience. As Asgard's prince, the possibilities were tantalizing.

But the mission objectives were daunting.

The first step was relatively straightforward—prevent Stark from retiring after the Killian incident. Thor could easily handle Killian, rendering the Mandarin event irrelevant.

The real challenge lay in the second step: stopping Stark from sacrificing himself during the final battle.

How could Thor prevent that?

Thor had already resolved to end the war early—killing Thanos during the Wakanda battle, altering fate entirely. But that would delay his progress for over twenty years.

"Besides," Thor muttered bitterly, "Extremis isn't going to stop the Mad Titan. And Tony Stark... why must everything about you be so difficult?"

Thor's resentment toward Stark deepened. Not only was Stark infuriating as a person, but now his mission was equally aggravating.

Could he simply abandon the mission? It was, after all, Tony Stark's exclusive quest.

Thor sighed, rubbing his temples. Giving up wasn't in his nature.

"Fine, Stark," Thor muttered. "You'd better be worth all this trouble."
