Marrying a Disabled General and be His Wife

Chapter 13

It was only after Chu Qingyi sent Young Master Yan away that Feng Chilie returned.

“Eldest Sister, are you here?” Feng Chilie knocked on the door and asked.

Chu Qingyi sat in front of the table, holding her forehead: “Yes, come in.”

Ji Bei helped Feng Chilie into the house, but Feng Chilie insisted on walking in by himself, refusing Ji Bei’s assistance and pulled his wheelchair using his own hands.

“Why not let Ji Bei assist you?” Chu Qingyi walked up behind him and guided him to the table.

Feng Chilie wiped his dusty hands and said, “I wanted to try to see if I could manage it.”

“You can’t,” Chu Qingyi said, “I can’t understand what’s going on in your mind. Stop acting recklessly, you only make me worried.”

After she finished speaking, she playfully tapped Feng Chilie on the head. It wasn’t a hard tap, but in all of Jing Kingdom, there were only a few who dared to be so playful with a powerful figure like Feng Chilie. She was one of them.

Feng Chilie smiled and noticed there were plenty of leftovers on the table. He asked Lan Yue to fetch him a pair of bowls and chopsticks, “It seems that my eldest sister has returned not too long ago. How about sharing a meal with me?”

“Just ask next time if you want a free meal,” Chu Qingyi said as she handed Feng Chilie his favorite drunken crab.

“I won’t chase you away.”

Feng Chilie nodded and ate with great concentration, every movement deliberate.

After finishing the meal, Chu Qingyi wiped her mouth and confronted Feng Chilie, “Now, tell me why you’ve come to see me so late.”

Feng Chilie sat up straight and explained, “Tuo Ba Rou will be arriving tomorrow, please, help me deal with the reception. I really don’t want to face her.”

“I’ve already taken care of it.” Speaking of this matter, Chu Qingyi grew irritated, “You should have thought twice before choosing a shield in the first place. Now you’ve turned to Qi Kingdom. That sickly man is actually strong as an ox. You really got yourself into a tight spot!”

Feng Chilie genuinely hadn’t anticipated this. He defended himself, “Who would have guessed he could become skilled in martial arts? When I saw him in Jing Kingdom all those years ago, he was as thin as a man who’d just stepped onto Earth.”

Feng Chilie had accompanied Chu Qingyi to Qi Kingdom more than a decade ago. Chu Qingyi was representing Jing Kingdom for trade negotiations with Qi Kingdom, and Feng Chilie had little interest in business discussions.

Consequently, after receiving Tan Hongyun’s permission, he started to explore the palace of King Qi by himself.

He wandered around and found himself in the dining hall, where he happened to witness the head cook berating someone.

The cook was scolding an emaciated young boy. His clothes were worn and patched in many places.

“You bitch who no mother! Come and steal food from me again!”

The cook took a hard steamed bun and threw it in front of the little boy, “Just tell me when you are hungry. It’s not like I won’t give something to you. Here you go, take it and get out!”

The little boy picked up the steamed bun and held it up in front of the cook, saying, “How can anyone eat this? It’s harder than a rock!”

The cook replied, “Just soak it in water, and it’ll soften. Now, get out quickly; don’t delay people’s meals.” He pushed the boy, who staggered a few steps and almost fell.

Fifteen years old was the age of arrogance and a strong sense of justice, Feng Chilie couldn’t bear to witness such bullying. With a big step, he reached out to support the young boy and took him into his arms.

The boy was already incredibly thin, and being held in Feng Chilie’s arms made him seem even more fragile, like a handful of bones. Despite this, his beautiful face couldn’t be concealed. Although he looked to be only six years old, the spark in his eyes shone brightly.

With this kind of beauty, he would undeniably stir a mess in any countries.

Feng Chilie held him tightly in his arms and kicked open the kitchen door.

The cook heard the sound and raised the kitchen knife, shouting, “Who are you? How dare you act so boldly in King Qi’s palace? Do you have a death wish? Leave now if you want to live! Do you understand?”

Feng Chilie displayed Chu Qingyi’s identity jade plaque, saying, “I didn’t expect a cook to be so arrogant, driving guests away at will.” The cook didn’t recognize Feng Chilie or the jade plaque, but he could identify its owner, which meant that this guest was no ordinary person.

The jade plaque was crafted from the finest heavenly jade, encircled with golden threads outlining intricate patterns. The engraving work was also exceptionally delicate, making it clear that the owner held a significant position.

“Your Excellency, please forgive my misunderstanding.” The cook’s forehead began to sweat. “I, a common servant, have a simple heart. Please don’t argue with a lowly servant, as it’s not worth your anger.”

“You’re the one who’s simple,” Feng Chilie accepted the jade plaque and replied, “Is there any food available? I’m hungry.”

The cook, now nervous, said, “Of course, Your Excellency. What would you like to eat? I’ll prepare it for you.”

“I don’t have particularly high demands,” Feng Chilie pondered for a moment.

“Just serve a Man-Han banquet, not too much of each dish, just a small portion of each will suffice.” The term “Man-Han banquet” refers to a banquet that combines both Manchu and Han Chinese cuisines, known for its variety.

To keep his head, the cook trembled, “Your Excellency, serving a complete banquet might be a bit challenging. Some ingredients are currently unavailable. How about I prepare a fine meal for you instead?”

Feng Chilie gently touched the boy’s back, realizing that with his small frame, a full banquet might be overwhelming. He nodded, “Very well, make it a fine meal, and please do it quickly.”

The cook promptly instructed his staff, and in no time, a fine meal was ready, packed into two full food boxes.

.

Feng Chilie carried one food box in each hand and cradled the little boy against his broad chest as he walked to a small pavilion. There, he opened the ten boxes and placed the dishes on the table, one by one.

He gently lifted the little boy and set him on a stone bench. “Enjoy your meal.”

The young boy was quite hungry, and his stomach growled audibly, but he didn’t rush to eat. He savored each bite carefully.

He began by serving himself a bowl of hot soup to warm his stomach and then picked out the soft vegetables, leaving the harder ones untouched to avoid any stomach irritation.

After finishing his meal, he wiped his mouth, gave a polite nod to Feng Chilie, and said, “Thank you.”

His voice was soft and gentle, melting hearts.

“No need, it’s just tough to see,” Feng Chilie replied as he sat down on the stone bench. Without reservation, he used the little boy’s chopsticks to pick up a piece of pork belly and placed it in his mouth.

He asked, “Kid, what’s your name? We might as well get to know each other.”

“I’m Tan Chuyan,” the young boy replied without hesitation. “That’s my name.”

“Tan Chuyan,” Feng Chilie repeated the name, “a lovely name, just like a beauty’s name.”

Tan Chuyan: “…”

Feng Chilie quickly changed the subject, “But ‘Tan’ is the surname of the Qi Kingdom’s royal family. Who are you?”

Tan Chuyan replied calmly, “I’m the fifth prince of Qi Kingdom, although the way I live here in the palace is worse than a beggars.”

He then turned the question back to Feng Chilie, “What’s your name? I remember your name, and I’ll repay you someday.”

“My name is—”

Feng Chilie was about to reveal his name when Chu Qingyi sent someone to find him. He had to leave, saying, “Hold that thought, Tan Chuyan. I’ll tell you my name next time we meet.”

.

Little did he know that the next time they met would be on a busy street, but, sadly, Tan Chuyan didn’t recognize him.

As an adult, Tan Chuyan lived up to Feng Chilie’s earlier assessment. He appeared to be a cunning figure, like a harbinger of disaster to the nation. His fox-like eyes radiated sharpness and held countless emotions, as if they conveyed love.

However, Feng Chilie didn’t go into detail about this matter with Chu Qingyi.

Chu Qingyi sneered and said, “You’re still being played by him after all this time. Doesn’t that feel great?”

Feng Chilie sighed, “It’s truly frustrating, like being deceived by a cunning fox. I’m going to teach him a lesson when I catch him in the future.”

“Drop that idea as soon as possible,” Chu Qingyi warned and made a hushing gesture. “From now on, I’ll protect Tan Chuyan. Go wherever you need to, but don’t try to deceive him.”

“What?” Feng Chilie was taken aback, as if he couldn’t believe his ears.

“You heard me correctly, I’ll be looking out for Tan Chuyan from now on,” Chu Qingyi reiterated. She continued with a fabricated story, “Before you arrived, I received information from our spies. They mentioned that Tan Chuyan and Young Master Yan may be acquainted.”

“After all, Young Master Yan is here to travel, and he won’t stay in Jing Kingdom forever. I wanted to see if we could use Tan Chuyan as a potential link to reach Young Master Yan in the future.”

“How coincidental!” Feng Chilie exclaimed, “I’ve also come across this information, which is why I use Tan Chuyan to help me intervene in the marriage, but the primary reason is for you, my eldest sister.”

Chu Qingyi glanced at him, intrigued, “For me?” Feng Chilie nodded, “Yes, I wanted to see if I could use him to assist you in getting closer to Young Master Yan and lend you a hand.”

While it might be quicker to approach Tan Chuyan with a different identity, Feng Chilie didn’t want Chu Qingyi to be aware of the ruthless killer he concealed.

He couldn’t risk her finding out about his other persona.

He needed to maintain the image of being dutiful and sensible in front of his eldest sister.

“You’re very considerate,” Chu Qingyi said, feeling somewhat relieved. She inquired, “Since you’re planning to help me make connections, why not help directly?”

Feng Chilie lowered his head and explained, “Eldest Sister, you know I’m not interested in the heir apparent position, but don’t worry. If anyone dares to harm you, I won’t spare them.”

This was one reason, but there was another.

His younger brother, Feng Libai, was now 18 years old, and Feng Chilie could tell that his spirited sibling was eager to join the Wolf Eagle Cavalry.

This meant that the Wolf Eagle Cavalry was currently in a state of unrest. If Feng Chilie decided to openly support Chu Qingyi, it would likely bring danger to her.

Therefore, it was wiser for him to remain neutral and serve as a protector.

However, to most, he was already seen as belonging to Chu Qingyi’s camp due to their close relationship. As long as Feng Libai believed otherwise, everything would be fine.

Feng Libai was a spirited youth, and if he joined the Wolf Eagle Cavalry too early, he could potentially undermine his parents’ hard work.

Furthermore, the members of the Wolf Eagle Cavalry were known for their fierceness and tenacity. They were like wolves on the grasslands and eagles soaring in the sky. If Feng Libai sought to join their ranks, he would need the approval of the Wolf Eagle Cavalry, or he would face significant physical consequences.
