Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Suddenly, Intermediate Dungeon
Chapter 14: Suddenly, Intermediate Dungeon
On Saturday, armed with my student ID, I promptly headed to the guild. From today onwards, I am an E-rank adventurer.
“The general information is written in this booklet, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.”
The receptionist lady was unusually friendly. I see, last time I was a lackluster beginner carrying a mace. This time, I came dressed somewhat decently. A woman’s attitude can really change like this. Looks are indeed important.
With that, I went to the weapon and armor shops. The old man at the weapon shop was thrilled that I came to buy a spear, and he even tried to give me the short spear I bought for 30,000 gold last time for free. It’s supposed to be priced at 50,000 gold. After a bit of back-and-forth, I managed to acquire it by paying half, 25,000 gold. The old man is probably in the red.
At the armor shop, they recommended leather armor, but I insisted and purchased intermediate-grade breastplate armor, sturdy leather boots, and a larger backpack. Honestly, the breastplate is heavy with my current strength (POW), and now I understand why the old man recommended leather armor. However, I plan to level up soon today, and the weight won’t be a concern anymore.
“Don’t push yourself.”
Instead of messing up my hair, the old man gave me his favorite leather hat. Once I’ve saved enough money, I plan to buy a metal circlet, but until then, I’ll rely on this.
This time, I’m heading to the intermediate dungeon on the outskirts of the capital, not the beginner dungeon where Pill Bugs are common. I chose this place for one reason: it’s unpopular, and there are no guild staff at the entrance. As a fresh adventurer and a solo player, there’s a possibility of being stopped from entering an intermediate dungeon right away. However, I was a seasoned warrior who surpassed level 80 last time. I have no intention of dealing with Pill Bugs and larvae in the shallow levels of the beginner dungeon. Of course, I also researched the monsters inside. It’s a dungeon primarily filled with amphibian monsters, but as long as it’s a small number, I should be able to defeat them without any issues.
—Yeah, I underestimated the intermediate level.
Rushing into a Frog monster with the feeling from the previous week, I almost died. Relying on the spear’s attack power and the modest Stone Bullet, I somehow managed to finish off one and crawled back to the entrance with great difficulty. My boots are ruined from the acid. Unpopular dungeons are a tough nut to crack.
Anyway, let’s consider it a success since I leveled up. I put all my points into POW. With skill points obtained, I acquired Spear Technique. At level 1, Spear Technique has a powerful strike. It should make it somewhat safer to chip away at a single opponent.
At the nearest spawn point from the entrance, while Hit-and-Running Acid Frogs, I reached level 6. Since I can now defeat them with a single spear strike, I decided to stop raising POW for now and started distributing points to other parameters. I allocated skill points to Stone Bullet and obtained the level 2 Scattergun Shotgun. Until I learn the level 4 Stone Blast, I plan to invest all points into it. It’s a versatile and easy-to-use area-of-effect attack.
For now, I returned after defeating 33 Frogs today. It wasn’t a great performance, but with the Scattergun Shotgun that can attack multiple targets, tomorrow I can aim for the lower levels of the beginner dungeon, targeting Dragonflies and Rhinoceros Beetles. I, who earned the title Wing Killer last time, consider Wind attribute monsters to be ideal prey. Let’s hunt and hunt and hunt.
I’m screwed.
On the way back from the dungeon, I went to the guild to submit the subjugation items, and it was bad that what I handed in was Frog tongues, and it was 33 of them. It’s problematic to present the drop items from intermediate monsters on the day I registered as an adventurer. “Is this guy cheating?” is a reasonable suspicion.
The tongues covered in slime were not bought at the counter and were guided to the dismantling area. My boots were damaged by Frog acid, and although they barely believed that I had defeated them myself, they still had doubts. Above all, I stood out too much. If I continue my adventurer activities and accumulate achievements, the suspicion of cheating should gradually fade away, but this week started with an unsatisfying note.
No use regretting it. Let’s do our best again from tomorrow. Don’t mind.
