Chapter 11: 12
Daniel didn't have to actively seek Olly out to try and speak to him, instead, the gang leader seemed to eventually find his way to the Doctor.
It was the next day after his talk with Samuel, Justin and Chuck when Olly found him. It was getting late and he was coming back from speaking with James about restocking some items when his name was called out.
"Doctor Park!"
Startled out of his thoughts, Daniel turns to see Olly running towards him with a bloodied nose. His face, hands and shirt were soaked much to Daniel's horror.
"Olly?!" Daniel calls back frantically just as the bleeding male reaches him. "What happened?!" He questions as he searches his coat for a handkerchief to hand to the other. Olly accepts it gratefully.
"Oh, I accidentally walked into a wall" Olly grins, a smile on his lips as he answers. "It didn't hurt but I started bleeding a lot. I've tried shoving tissues up my nose and pinching it but it's been at least ten minutes and it still won't stop which is why I've been looking for you. You weren't in your office" Olly states nonchalantly and Daniel's brows shoot up.
"Your nose has been bleeding non-stop for the last ten minutes?" He questions seriously before grabbing the man's arm and steering him in the direction of his office. "Does this usually happen?"
"Nah, usually if my nose starts bleeding it stops after a couple of minutes but I guess this time I must have hit my nose a bit harder" Olly grunts, swallowing his saliva before coughing. "Ew, I can taste blood" He complains and Daniel's worry grows even further.
"We're almost at the medical bay, come on" Daniel urges, dragging him with even more vigour and strength.
Olly has been bleeding non-stop for around 10 minutes now. It's not the longest a nosebleed has gone on for but it was certainly not normal. The longer it goes on the more blood he'll lose and the worse his condition will get. It's a wonder how the male wasn't lightheaded yet.
"Doc I sort of feel dizzy" Olly groans and Daniel curses.
"Yeah, blood loss will do that" Daniel hums as he opens his office door and closes it just as Olly stumbles in. Directing the gang leader into a seat he starts by monitoring the bleeding which means looking into the nasal through the blood.
Olly had also mentioned that he could taste blood, which meant it was a posterior nosebleed. A bleed that was in one of the larger blood vessels in the back of his nose. It would explain why there was so much blood and why it hadn't clotted itself yet.
There were a number of options that Daniel could take to fix the bleed. He could wait a little longer to see if the bleeding would stop on its own since this was the first time that Olly had said that it had taken so long to stop but that in itself came with risks. If it doesn't stop on its own then the risk levels will increase. Another option was performing a nasal cautery or he could do a nasal ligation, he had the topical anaesthetics for both but he couldn't perform it alone. The last option would be administering a posterior nasal pack but there were also complications to that procedure. It would be even more complicated by himself.
Just as Daniel was internally debating what to do the door to the medical room slid open and the Doctor turned to see his saving grace.
"Jay, please start prepping the material to perform a nasal cautery" He calls out, slightly guilty at his instant ordering despite the blonde nurse only having just arrived. It was a weekday, and why Jay was on site he didn't know but he could only appreciate the blonde's existence.
Jay's shocked body language melts just as quickly as it appears and he's moving across the room in an instant, gathering the materials and resources as Daniel turns back to Olly who was watching him through drooping eyes.
"Is it that bad, Doc?" Olly asks imploringly before his lips twist into an amused smile. "That'd be a really stupid way to die, death by nosebleed" He chuckles and Daniel frowns.
"You're not dying, Olly" He replies resolutely. "I need to ask you a couple of questions before we start this process, can you answer them?" He urges and Olly hums out in confirmation.
"Is this the first time you've experienced a nosebleed this long?" Daniel starts off.
"Yes"
"How did you get this injury?"
"I…I hit my nose when I was training earlier"
At the response, Daniel frowns.
"Earlier you said it was because you walked into a wall, Olly are you lying to me?" Daniel questions firmly and Olly at the very least looks sheepish that he has been caught.
"Maybe"
"Olly I need you to answer these questions both truthfully and thoroughly, now I'll ask you again. How did you get this injury?" He asks again and this time Olly sighs, swallowing deeply before replying.
"I was accidentally shoved into the corner of a door. That's the truth" Olly answers, his voice faint as he looks to the floor.
He was 'accidentally' shoved into a door. Gang leader and Big Daddy of Hostel A who was feared and renowned for his ferociousness was injured because of a door…and he didn't do anything to the person who pushed him?
"Was it Eli?" Daniel asks, his eyes narrowing as Olly tenses.
"He didn't mean to do it so hard, he was annoyed with me and I was pushing all his buttons again when I was trying to talk to him. I should have left him alone, he told me to leave him alone but I didn't…I just mess everything up" He mutters in self-deprecation and Daniel feels his blood boil.
A hand pats his shoulder and the Doctor turns to see that Jay is ready and urging Daniel to also go and prepare himself. Snapping out of his anger, Daniel asks one last question, he'd deal with Eli later.
"Are you currently taking any medication?" He asks and Olly nods as he pulls a bottle of pills and passes it to Daniel.
Reading the label, Daniel's frown deepens even further.
"Okay, we're going to move you into position, suction the blood and then I'll be performing the nasal cautery. Is that alright, Olly?"
Said male nods.
"Yeah, do what you gotta do, Doc. This nosebleed is getting annoying at this point" Olly huffs.
Daniel moved to wash his hands thoroughly before putting on nitrile gloves to protect himself from any burns or stains that could be caused by the chemicals he was about to use. Jay positions the patient into an extended 'sniffing position' to ensure that Olly doesn't accidentally choke on any of the blood before preparing him for the procedure.
"Alright, Jay is just going to suction and clear up some of the blood so we can apply some anaesthetic to help numb the area. I understand that you can't feel pain but it will still feel weird if you just apply the cauterisation to your nose. Understand?" Olly hums again as a response.
Jay expertly suctions the blood using a Yankauer suction tip and Daniel applies the anaesthetic. As they wait a moment for it to take effect Daniel uses the time to observe the bleeding points, blood is still coming out steadily but Jay makes sure to suction it to prevent a further mess. Eventually, Daniel reaches out for the chemical cautery stick and turns back to Olly who is watching in apprehension.
"I'll be putting this up your nose, it's a chemical cautery stick that is laced with Silver nitrate and potassium nitrate. It should hopefully cauterise the blood vessels and stop the bleeding" He informs and Olly nods.
"Ready?" "Yes, sir" Olly responds.
The procedure takes roughly two minutes, for anyone else it might have been an unbearable experience even with the anaesthetic. The chemical agents burn which was the entire reason for their usage. Had it been anyone else who didn't have a pain condition then they would have been whimpering in pain or quite uncomfortable.
After two minutes, Daniel removes the stick and Jay helps clean up the area. Both the Doctor and nurse stare at the patient with bated breaths, waiting to see if there will be any further bleeding yet a moment passes and there is none.
"I believe the procedure was effective" Daniel sighs in relief as Jay nods. The blonde nurse takes the items they used to either the bin or to be cleaned up. "How are you feeling, Olly?"
"My nose feels all tingly" Olly grunts, reaching up to brush his nose but Daniel grabs it and shakes his head.
"It might feel itchy and painful for the next couple of days but try not to play or touch it" Daniel tells the man who nods. "You'll also need to be off these pills until your nose has healed well. They might cause you to have another nosebleed which is the opposite of what we want" He gestures to the pills and at this Olly frowns but nods.
"I…thanks Doc" Olly sighs as he straightens his back and looks down at his messy clothes and hands. "I really made a mess, didn't I? But it's good to see that I can still bleed red like a regular person" Olly chuckles and Daniel raises a brow.
"Of course, you bleed red, you're human after all" He mentions and Olly pauses, staring at Daniel as if he grew another head. The silence between the two was only filled with Jay moving around the bay but eventually Olly opens his mouth to speak.
"Doctor…thank you so mu-" Olly's words were cut off as a line of red appeared from under his nose. Dripping down his face and onto the man's pants. Daniel's eyes widen and instantly he's lunging across his seat to grab onto Olly whose eyes were rolling to the back of his head. His body fell backwards but Daniel was able to grab him in time.
"Shit, the bleeding didn't stop" Daniel hisses, turning around to see an alarmed Jay.
'What do we do?' Jay seems to ask.
Daniel grits his teeth. At the current moment, Olly had been bleeding from his nose for around 20 minutes. Cauterising the wound didn't work which means that there was only one option left.
"The hospital is too far, we need to perform a posterior nasal packing. If he continues to lose more blood he'll either end up choking on it or fall into cardiac arrest. Go prep the room for surgery, now!" Jay merely nods and rushes next door.
Daniel could only turn back to the silent Olly as blood continued to drip down. He had lost consciousness which only meant further complications and now Daniel had to perform the procedure. It wasn't the most complicated procedure but it was still something that made the Doctor's stomach churn with worry. Posterior nasal packing should be performed by someone who was familiar or experienced and in Daniel's complete honesty he had never done it before. He's watched online lectures of it, studied it in passing and watched it performed at the hospital from an outsider's perspective.
Yet right now, at this moment, he wasn't allowed to doubt his abilities. It may be an operation of sorts but if he didn't do it Olly really would die.
By the time Jay had come back to tell him everything was ready he had pushed his worry to the side. They moved Olly to the room and Daniel took a moment to appreciate Jay for his efficiency and clear well-versed knowledge as a nurse due to how the room and all the proper material was set up.
"Alright, there's only two of us but...no…no buts, let's do it" Daniel nods and Jay nods in reply.
The monitors that were hooked up to Olly made sure to tell them about his condition. His heart and pulse were being tracked and monitored steadily.
Daniel made sure to inflate and then deflate the catheters to ensure their qualities were up to par and see if there were any potential leaks. There were not.
The two medical staff cleared Olly's airway so that he wouldn't choke on either his blood or tongue. The procedure itself takes probably a moment longer than what it usually would have if they were more knowledgeable in the area but the Foley catheters go in easily enough due to the lubricant jelly that was applied to the tips and Daniel inflates the balloon of the catheters with 7 ml of sterile saline. The rest of the procedure is a blur but by the end of it the bleeding has stopped and Olly's condition remains stable. There were moments in between when Daniel was feeling overwhelmed by what was happening but luckily Jay was there to keep him on track and calm.
The silent nurse who remained stoic through the process was enough to calm Daniel down for the moment. Jay who had supported Olly's head throughout the operation to ensure that the patient wouldn't make any sudden movements helped a lot. Both Jay's presence and Olly's fate were enough to stop him from running out of the room.
"We'll leave the nasal packing for 48 hours before removing it. We don't want to remove it prematurely in case he starts bleeding again" Daniel tells Jay who nods.
With Olly in stable condition, the two wheel him back into the medical bay where either one of them could keep an eye on the male. Olly himself was still knocked out, recovering from both the stress of what had happened and the blood loss which wasn't uncommon. Once he was situated just right, both Jay and Daniel slumped in their respective wheelie chairs, still geared up in gowns and gloves.
"We did it" Daniel states, his eyes on the monitors and Olly's sleeping figure.
He had performed a posterior nasal packing and although there had been so much initial bleeding the male was stable. He was ok.
Lifting his hands to strip them out of the bloodied gloves he notices how much they were shaking.
"Shit" Daniel curses as he throws the gloves away.
A soft hum was heard and Daniel turned to see Jay doing the same yet his body was facing the Doctor, worry shown through his movements as he gestured to the shaking hands.
"I'm fine, just…that was my first time doing a packing procedure…I was just a little nervous" Daniel replies, his voice out of breath and shaking. "I probably shouldn't be telling you this but I honestly thought I was going to fuck it up and cause Olly to die…I'm glad that you came when you did because if you didn't I wouldn't have been…I wouldn't have been able to do anything" His breath was quickening and his chest was tightening up. When did it get so hard to breathe?
He rips off his goggles and face masks before focusing on trying to breathe, his body trembling slightly as his thoughts of the 'what ifs' circle his mind. Jay's grounding touch, clamping on his shoulders is what brings him back to the present.
His breaths were calming and it took a moment before Daniel realised the nurse wanted him to copy. It takes a couple of minutes before Daniel returns to normal and he nods for Jay to let him go. The blonde does so reluctantly before giving him an inquiring look as if confused not by the panic attack that occurred as to why.
"You're probably confused, right? Why would a 'Doctor' get scared at the thought of performing a procedure or a surgery, this should be their entire life…right? I guess I might as well tell you the truth since you'll be working with me anyways" Daniel mutters, eyes turning to Olly before turning back to the patient blonde.
Daniel spills everything. From his inability to perform surgeries in the past that have gotten him kicked out of operating rooms, to the panic attacks and eventually the backlash he received from other medical practitioners.
"Pathetic, isn't it? How am I supposed to be a doctor if I have this barrier? I'm sorry, I should have told you this from the start that this was the kind of person you were working with…I know you signed up to be here for me so if you want to transfer to work with someone more competent then I won't be offended" He finishes off.
Jay takes a moment to collect his thoughts and analyse what he has been told yet as he stares at the Defeated looking Doctor and then the patient he had saved who was lying in bed behind them he can't help but shake his head. Daniel catches the movement and gapes.
"You're not leaving? You don't feel betrayed?" Daniel reads the silent words.
'I joined you because I saw you save people selflessly, what I saw today still proves this. My opinion and admiration of you haven't changed' Jay conveys and Daniel couldn't help but feel choked up at the admission.
"Jay…"
The blonde smiles before reaching out to pat his head, ruffling the dark hair and making a mess.
The door to the medical bay opens and Jay and Daniel step away from each other with haste, turning to see Gun peering in with a confused look. His eyes land on the two men who had broken apart, anger flashes across his face.
"Oh, I didn't realise you skipped training to play hooky" Gun growls. "Having fun with the nurse, Doctor Park?" He asks scathingly.
Daniel sucks in a deep breath, not wanting to cause another scene because Gun was being an idiot. Instead of yelling at the Founder, he crosses his arms.
"Gun, I'm going to need you to go back out and then come back in again, survey the room and then open your mouth to speak before you make stupid assumptions" Daniel sneers and Gun frowns.
He takes a look around the room and almost instantly it zones in on Olly who is still knocked out on the bed, hooked up to monitors, he then turns back to the two medical practitioners and notes the gowns and gear they are wearing. The blood that was painted across their clothes must have finally registered in his mind.
"What the fuck happened?" Gun questions, stepping into the room fully.
"Before I explain, is there any way you can contact Olly's next of kin? A family member perhaps?" Daniel replies and Gun grunts.
"I can't but I'm sure James can, although I'm pretty sure his registered next of kin is just the Hostel uncles" Gun replies, pulling out his phone to call the other founder.
The process of getting Justin and Chuck to come in is easier said than done, the two had been confused as to where their leader had run off to and when they received the call that he was currently confined to a hospital bed they had rushed over. With the two present, Daniel explained to both of them and Gun about what happened which included mentioning the fact that it was Eli who had 'accidentally' caused this.
"Accident my ass, that bastard did this on purpose!" Justin growls.
"We should teach him a lesson!" Chuck grunts, readying to go and find Eli to fight him in that moment yet a cough from Gun gets the two to settle down. "I-I mean…maybe I'll challenge him to an arena fight" He fixes his sentence.
"No, if you did that then you'll only piss off Olly and Hostel B" Daniel shakes his head.
"Then what do you propose we do, Doctor? Olly's been moping around on his ass trying to get Eli to speak to him and now he almost died because of that asshole. Either the two of them have to stop seeing each other or action needs to be taken" Chuck shouts.
"Oi, watch your tone" Gun shoves the uncle backwards slightly, placing himself between the doctor and the Hostel members. "The only reason Olly is in this mess is because of his own actions. Why the hell should Doctor Park even fix this when it's got nothing to do with him?" Gun retorts and Daniel places a hand on the man's shoulder to placate him. He hadn't told the founder that he was the one digging his nose into their business.
"Maybe it is what they need. Both men probably have lots of people around them telling them to do something…maybe all they need is for a stranger to speak to them and give them an honest push in the right direction" Daniel hums as he softly rubs Gun's shoulder in a calming manner. "It'd benefit the CC if two of their stronger fighters and leaders weren't acting this way, don't you think?" He asks and Gun's tense body loosens slightly.
The founder didn't look pleased but he didn't protest the Doctors words either.
"A push? How ironic" Justin mutters.
Ignoring the man's words, Daniel sucks in a deep breath. "Alright, I'll go and talk to Eli in the morning…do any of you know where he lives?"
.
.
.
"This is it?" Daniel asks, staring at the large building in front of him.
"Yep," Gun replies, popping the P as he turns off the ignition.
"You sure you don't want to come in with me?" Daniel asks as he unbuckles his seat belt to stare at the refined man that sits next to him in his expensive-looking suit, hair slicked back and scowl on his face.
"The moment they see me they'll think I'm a threat, it won't end well Doc. Just go in there, do your thing and talk and it'll get you better results. I'm satisfied playing chauffeur" Gun pulls out a cigarette and Daniel's nose wrinkles at the sight of it.
"Smoke outside the car, I don't want to come back in and inhale second-hand smoke" Daniel reprimands and Gun snorts before rolling down a window.
Rolling his eyes at the action, Daniel crosses his arms and questions the man.
"Why would they think you were a threat anyway? Aren't you technically their boss slash employer?"
"Last time I was here on their home turf I beat all of them to a pulp" Gun answers nonchalantly before gesturing with his hands for the man to leave. "Now go, I'm a busy man"
Annoyed by the response Daniel unlocks the door and gets out, mumbling curses under his breath the entire time it takes for him to stand outside of the Hotel? A hostel? The large building that Sally owned. Knocking on the front door he waits a moment for a response only to get none. Daniel turns back to give Gun a questioning look and the man who was still sitting smoking in his car merely shrugs and makes a motion for him to open the door.
Daniel turns back, reaches for the door handle and opens the surprisingly unlocked door. Stepping further in he navigates the building, listening to hear any noise from the occupants of the building.
There was faint muffling and sounds so Daniel followed the direction of it, the next thing to hit him was the smell of breakfast being cooked. The closer he got the louder the sound and the heavier the smell was. Eventually, he rounds a corner and peeks over the side of the wall to see a large kitchen that was in use and all of Hostel B's occupants along with a couple of other faces present.
Warren and Sally were carrying a couple of large dishes of food over to the long table in the middle of the room, happily chatting and smiling with each other. Max and Derrick were coming to take their seats at the table, dressed casually and speaking about a food stand? Two other girls were sitting giggling at the end of the table, fiddling with a phone and selfie stick. Finally, there was Eli who sat at the head of the table, a relaxed smile on his face as he was feeding a small child that was sitting in a high chair next to him. The atmosphere was calming, it was purely domestic and Daniel didn't want to ruin it but he knew he had to.
He clears his throat and knocks his fist against the wall gently, not trying to scare them. It of course doesn't work as heads snap in his direction, tension falls through the room only for mere moments before most of them register who it is.
"I'm sorry for coming in without permission but no one was answering the door and it was unlocked…" Daniel's voice drowns out, waiting for someone to speak.
Warren immediately turns to Sally.
"You forgot to lock the front door again, didn't you?" He frowns and Sally smiles sheepishly, walking towards Daniel with a smile.
"Doctor Park! What a pleasant surprise! What brings you here? Have you had breakfast? Come sit with us" She ushers him in by reaching out to grab onto his arm and pull him in.
"It's alright" But Daniel's answer was drowned out as everyone else seemed to make room for him. He sits next to Sally and Eli, Warren having brought him a chair as Max and Derrick reach out to clasp his hand in greeting. The two girls at the other end of the table introduced themselves as Amy and Natalie whereas Eli was kind enough to introduce him to his daughter Yenna.
"She's adorable" Daniel coos as he tickles her and she giggles.
"Here you go Doc, fill your plate up and eat" Sally urges and Daniel shakes his head.
"It's alright, you don't need to do this" Daniel insists but they shake their heads and encourage him. Should he take some back for Gun? Did Gun even eat breakfast?
"Nonsense, treating you to some breakfast is the least we can do after all the help you've given us" Eli states wisely. "You've been helping us even before you became the official doctor at the CC" He adds and Daniel nods.
What was it with people treating him with food?
"Well what brings you here, surely this isn't just a casual drop-in check?" Warren asks and Daniel feels himself sour.
"Ah yes…I came here to discuss something with Eli…unfortunately it's not a very happy subject so I'll tell you all after you've eaten" Daniel tries to smile through the words but Eli narrows his eyes.
"Not a happy subject?" Sally asks, eyes flickering from Eli to Daniel.
"Whatever you want to say you can say it in front of my family and you can tell us now" Eli states openly and the others around the table give their leader a wary look.
"You sure that's a good idea?" Warren raises a brow.
"Yeah, we don't mind leaving," Derrick tells Eli as Max nods.
"No, stay" Eli shakes his head before his focus turns to cleaning Yenna's face with a napkin.
Seeing the atmosphere shift, Daniel had no choice but to oblige.
"It's about Olly Wang" He states and the tension grows so thick that Daniel was sure he was going to suffocate. "Are you sure you want me to continue?" He asks for reassurance.
There were a couple of warning glances sent in Daniel's direction but he ignored them. Eli chooses to answer carefully.
"What makes you think we care about him? He's not a part of our crew, never was if I'm quite honest" Eli scoffs, his hands flexing visibly on the table.
"Eli…" Sally breathed out sadly, sharing a look with Warren whose brows were drawn down in concern.
"He may have caused a lot of trouble and he's done shit that we don't agree with but…saying he was never one of us is a bit harsh" Warren reasons softly but at the glare Eli sends him he shuts his mouth.
"He wasn't one of us" He restates, punctuating each word clearly.
"Well, quite frankly it doesn't matter what he was or wasn't" Daniel cuts in as he stares directly at the leader. "Although he currently is unconscious in one of my beds back at the medical bay at the CC" he puts bluntly Eli's gaze snaps back to Daniel, alert and on edge.
"What?" He breathes.
"He's hurt?" Sally asks, gasping.
"Olly came to me yesterday afternoon with a nosebleed that wouldn't stop. He said he was accidentally shoved into a door and that it had been bleeding for over 10 minutes. I suspect that if he wasn't externally bleeding and the blood wasn't being a nuisance to him then he would have never come to me. His body wasn't clotting the blood properly which led to the excessive bleeding, I suspect that was caused by the pills he's been having to take for his condition but that's besides the point. I attempted to cauterise the wound but it didn't work. Nurse Hong along with myself performed a posterior nasal packing, he'll have to keep that in for the next couple of days to make sure the bleeding stops" Clasping his hands in front of him, Daniel gives them all a weary look. "If that didn't work Olly could have potentially died from all the blood loss" He sighs.
"But he's okay? Olly's alright?" Max asks and Daniel nods.
There was a collective sigh of relief. Even Eli's shoulders that had gone up were now down.
"I'm glad to hear that he's alright, thank you for letting us know, Doctor" Sally thanks and Daniel hums, his eyes still not having left Eli.
"Although I do have to question why you came all this way to inform us personally, we're not close to Olly, if anything you should have informed his uncles Justin and Chuck or even his latest addition James Gong" Derrick quips and Daniel lets out a sarcastic laugh.
"Isn't it a bit harsh to say that you're not close with him at all seeing as you all have history with him?" Daniel leans back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest.
"What are you implying, Doctor?" Eli hisses, eyes narrowing and his easy-going, kind demeanour dropping into something more dangerous.
"It doesn't matter what I imply, what matters is that you are the one who dislikes Olly and has been avoiding him. Now I understand that you're mad at him and you don't want to talk to him and that Olly shouldn't have pushed your boundaries but that's still no excuse for you to have shoved him out of the way so harshly. He could have died because of your carelessness" Daniel hisses and a couple of gasps were let out.
"Eli, you pushed him?" Sally questions and Eli's face tightens into a scowl.
"Amy, Natalie, take Yenna and go upstairs to your room" Eli orders with a tone of finality. Both girls stood up, rushed to Yenna and were quick to leave the room. "You should go too, Sally" He adds but at the glare she was giving him he lets out a sigh instead.
"I didn't realise that my actions would have caused such trouble for both you and him…I only shouldered my way past him to get away from him" Eli breathes out, trying to keep his voice even. "I apologise"
"You shouldn't be apologising to me, as I have said countless times before I was just doing my job. The person you should be apologising to is Olly" Daniel retorts and Eli's irritation grows.
"To hell, like I'm going to apologise to him. He should be the one to apologise to me" Eli snaps and Daniel raises a brow.
"Apologise for what? For nearly murdering Darius because he was provoked by him? For being loyal to you even though he's consistently treated like a dog when he's in your presence? For having to withstand the years of exclusion and neglect from all of you? For Heather?" At the name Eli lunges across the table and grabs onto Daniel's collar, Warren is quick to reach out and try and calm down his friend whereas Derrick and Max grab the male from behind.
"YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HER! DON'T SAY HER NAME!" Eli snarls as the other three uncles try to pull him off the unamused Doctor.
"Eli, come on man, calm down. The Doc doesn't know what he's saying, let him go!" Max shouts.
"You'll get in trouble if you hurt him!" Warren adds.
Eli was growling, the sound was both feral and unhinged, similar to the way Olly had acted when he was defending Daniel from Ryuhei. Eventually, the leader lets go and Daniel is shoved behind Warren.
"Get out, you're not welcome here" Eli sneers.
"That's not your call to make Eli" Sally intervenes firmly, glaring at the man. "This place belongs to me, not you" She reminds and Eli merely chuffs and shakes his head in annoyance.
"Doctor you should leave, for your safety" Warren hums. "Eli…he's usually calm but when it comes to Olly and Heather he gets like this" He reasons somberly and Daniel sighs.
He takes another look at Eli who had taken to pacing around the kitchen a little further away, Derrick and Max blocking his path towards Daniel.
"Did that help?" Daniel calls and Eli freezes in his spot. "Did that bout of violence soothe the burning anger that exists in the pit of your heart or are you still pissed?" He questions and Eli directs his scathing look back at Daniel.
"It didn't, right? Trying to fight me didn't resolve any of your problems did it? You're still feeling that inner turmoil and deep regret. The only way you can eventually get rid of it all is once you finally learn to face the truth but to do that you'll need to talk to Olly about what happened. I know you're not angry at him for Heather though, do you want to know why I'm so sure of it?" Daniel asks daringly. He knows he shouldn't provoke the lion in its den but he needs to get it through Eli's thick skull.
"Why?" Eli grits out.
"Because Olly's loyal. Everything he's done or thinks he's done he did it with you at the forefront of his mind. I'm sure that after his previous shit show here he tried apologising to you countless times. It might have taken you a while but eventually you forgave him, didn't you? His continued pestering gave you the chance to finally get to know him, that's why you became so close. If you became as close as I suspect that you did then you should understand that Olly only wants to please you, to keep you happy. He wouldn't have hurt Darius the way he did without a suitable explanation. Have you ever given him the chance to explain his side?" He urges and Eli shakes his head.
"I don't want it, he promised me he wouldn't try to kill anyone again, he made promises and he couldn't keep them. If he can't keep his promise then how the hell am I supposed to trust that he won't do it again?" He questioned and it was a good point but Daniel knew better.
"I'm not asking you to forgive him again or to forget what he's done. I'm asking you to listen to him and if things don't work out then give him the courtesy of rejecting him so he can move on from you. If you don't make it clear then he'll never let go of his loyalty to you" Daniel lets out a deep sigh. "I know I haven't known you all for long but the way Olly was staring at you during your fight…It was filled with so much devotion, admiration and love that it felt overwhelming even for me" He states softly and the previous anger in the room had fizzled out.
"Eli, I think you should listen to Olly's side. If not to clear the air then to understand" Sally nods in agreement.
"You were much happier when he was your friend" Warren supplies, there was a clear implication that they were more than friends but it was unvoiced.
"Apologise for almost killing him at least" Derrick chimes in and Max nods.
Eli was in deep thought, not a single word leaving his mouth but a thousand were flashing through his eyes as he was helpless to decide what he needed to do.
"I should get going, I apologise for ruining your morning but I needed to tell you all this" Daniel tells them and Sally nods.
"I'll walk you out Doc" She gestures and the two leave the kitchen. The walk out of the room and back to the entrance of the Hotel was awkward at best but Daniel didn't mind, he had been the one to cause it after all.
"Thank you for doing this, Doctor Park" Sally states evenly as she turns to the male beside her. "The issues surrounding our hostels and leaders have been going on for years, when they became friends I thought that the problem had finally been resolved but alas they ended up like this…We've been trying to push Eli to talk to Olly for ages but I'm sure your words have finally struck a chord with him" She smiled sadly and Daniel could only nod.
"Well, I couldn't let what they had now continue, especially if it threatens the wellbeing of either one of them" He relays, opening the front door so they could stand outside. The air wasn't too cold but it still made Sally shiver.
"You know before I got to know the boys in there, before I got to have this family all I had by my side was Heather and Olly" Sally hums out, looking forlornly off into the distance. "I didn't have my parents or any relatives, all I had was this hotel and my two best friends. My sweet Heather who didn't have a mean bone in her and Olly who was slightly weird around the edges but was unapologetic about it. Those two were friends long before I entered the scene but when I did they accepted me with open arms…When Hostel came to be created I never gave Olly the same courtesy he gave me" Her eyes tear up as she hugs herself with her arms, making her body look smaller than it already was.
"I've already had to bury one friend and when you said that Olly had gotten hurt I just thought the worse…I can't do it again. Even if it's Olly, a person I can't understand half the time. I…I still care about him. No matter how the others feel…to me at one point in my life he did feel like a brother" She admits and Daniel reaches out to grasp her shoulder comfortingly.
"I think you should tell him that yourself, I get the feeling that he isn't told that very often and I'm sure it'd make his day," Daniel tells the girl soothingly.
Sally nods, wiping a stray tear from her cheek before putting on a brave smile.
"I'll be sure to visit him when he wakes up, thank you" She states and Daniel nods.
He waits for Sally to reenter the hotel before turning around and making his way to Gun's parked car. He slides into the passenger seat and the founder turns to him with a raised brow.
"How'd it go? I noticed you talking to the mama outside and she started crying, was it as emotional inside?" Gun questions, his tone was a borderline scoff but at Daniel's warning glare the other turns it down a notch.
"It went as well as it could have, whether Eli wants to act or not it's on him now. Let's head back to the CC" Daniel urges and Gun snorts.
"Can I at least get a please?"
"You could get a fist to the face" Daniel retorts.
"You can walk your ass back to the CC if you keep it up with the attitude" Gun replies but he was already starting the car up and putting it into gear.
.
.
.
When Daniel arrived back at the CC medical bay with Gun in tow, Jay was helping a newly awakened Olly Wang sit up and drink some water.
"Olly, it's good to see that you're finally up" Daniel calls out with a smile as he walks in. "You gave us all a good scare" He adds and the patient merely provides a grin in return.
"I knew you'd take good care of me, Doc. There was no doubt about it" Olly replies. "Although I feel weird right now, like there's a bunch of shit stuffed up my nose to my brain. I couldn't understand what the nurse was trying to tell me"
Jay gives an apologetic smile but Daniel waves him off.
"Well, seeing as we stuck an inflatable pack up your nose to stop the bleeding I would say your feelings are valid. It'll feel uncomfortable for a while but it needs to stay in there for another day or so. I can't risk taking it out and causing you to bleed again" Daniel informs and Olly nods.
"So I'm stuck here for a while, huh?" Olly asks and Daniel smiles.
"Oh don't look so down, you'll have Nurse Hong and me as company" Daniel pats the patient's knee and Olly's face lets out a small smile. "And you can order Gun around to grab you food since apparently, he has nothing to do except follow me around today" He adds, turning to the founder who was now glaring in his direction.
"I had the day off today and I was bored but if you're going to treat me like that I can just leave you three to your own devices" Gun grunts. "This is the last time I'm chauffeuring you anywhere" Crossing his arms and letting out a huff, he turns away from them.
Letting out a soft coo, Daniel approaches the taller man and pokes him in the stomach.
"Awe, is someone feeling a little hurt?" He teases as Gun swipes at the hands but makes no other move to stop Daniel with his persistent teasing.
"You two are close, aren't you?" Olly calls out and Daniel pauses before looking from the patient to his employer who looks slightly uncomfortable, "I mean I already knew he was training you since the first time I met you and you didn't deny it when I asked but now that I'm seeing the both of you together…is there something going on?" Olly wiggles his brows.
Jay looked shocked by the words, snapping his head in the direction of the two as he took in their apparent 'closeness'.
Daniel snorts.
"He does train me but I still find this inconsiderate asshole annoying, don't get me wrong and I'm not afraid to say it to his face" Daniel announces with a shrug.
"Yeah? Say that again looking into my eyes" Gun challenges and Daniel huffs before turning to do just that, except he was met face to face with the older man's actual eyes, his sunglasses in his hands as he waits expectantly for Daniel to act cocky.
Daniel swallows his saliva thickly, surprised there wasn't anger but instead amusement in Gun's gaze. Where did the original Gun who got annoyed with his attitude go? Now as he was staring into his eyes all he could remember was their sultry night together, him bent in half and staring up into the same scarred yet heated gaze.
"I…you…" His words slip from his mind and Gun chuckles.
When did he get so close? Why is he towering over him like that? Why did Daniel like it?
"Seems like you can't say it to my face after all" Gun muses and Daniel rolls his eyes and turns away. Why was it so hot all of a sudden?
"Maybe I just don't want to say it because I know the next time we 'train' you're going to be a hardass on me again" Daniel denies before nudging the elder with his foot gently. "Anyways get out of here, you're crowding the medical room. Don't you have papers to read and sign?" He mentions and Gun grimaces.
"Yeah I do, I'll swing by during lunch with food. Chinese sounds good?" He asks but the question isn't directed at the three of them, only to Daniel.
"Yeah, sounds fine" Daniel agrees and watches as the large man leaves.
Turning back to the medical space he was met with Olly's cocky grin and Jay's openly shocked face.
"Everything alright?" He questions. Jay was quick to snap out of whatever mood he was in, he nodded assuredly. Olly on the other hand laughs with a crackle.
"I didn't think I'd ever see the day where Jong Gun Park acts so friendly with someone else, how intriguing" Olly giggles and Daniel rolls his eyes.
"Alright you, lay back in bed" He orders, ignoring the quips.
"The CC is even more interesting since before I was suspended" Olly adds one last time before he was directed to lie down.
.
.
.
Taking out the packing was slightly difficult and Daniel was wary of making sure that Olly didn't bleed again yet once it was done he was satisfied with the results.
"Seems like it's not bleeding anymore" Daniel sighs.
"Hell yeah, having that thing in me was annoying" Olly grumbles as Daniel passes the materials to Jay to chuck in the bin.
The past two days had been filled with non-stop checking in with Olly meaning that the two medical practitioners took shifts watching the gangleader. No complications arose so it was mainly spent in bored silence.
"I want you to stay for one more night then if nothing else happens then I can let you go tomorrow morning. I'm sure Chuck and Justin will be relieved that you've recovered" Daniel hums and Olly nods.
"Whilst I can't wait to go back and sleep in my own bed and room, I will miss talking to you Doc" Olly announces and Daniel sighs.
Olly was a chatterbox. When he meant they spent it in bored silence it was more of silence from Daniel and Jay whilst Olly talked their ears off. Daniel didn't tell the other man off for his actions, instead, he listened intently and chimed in occasionally.
After meeting Olly for the first time and having the leader save him from a tricky situation for the last couple of days of trying to understand him and spending time with him, Daniel could safely say that he had grown fond of the man. He was loud, couldn't sit still to save his life and needed constant interactions with others but he was kind and funny. He wasn't as bad as how other people had described him to be.
"Well you're free to visit me, please do come to me if you get injured again. As I've said before, I'm here for you Olly" Daniel states professionally.
That night Daniel dismissed Jay to return home and get some proper rest, the blonde had been adamant about staying but since it was a Friday the next day they needed all the rest they could get. Since the two of them had been taking care of Olly the last couple of days he's had to miss out on training with Gun which the elder was annoyed by but didn't condemn Daniel for.
"I'll be right back Olly, I just need to head to my room to grab a couple of forms and I'll return" Daniel calls and Olly nods as he grabs his phone to play a couple of games.
Heading off to his room quickly, Daniel noticed a light that was still on in one of the halls. Curious about who could still be around he enters the room only to find out that it was…a mess hall? Rows and rows of clean tables were in the room and there was what looked like a canteen at the end of one side. Daniel hadn't been in the room before, not that he'd been in most of the rooms since the CC was huge but he hadn't been expecting this.
A lone figure sat at the end of one table. It was a back that Daniel was familiar with and he was tempted to turn around and leave the founder to his devices but he figured a conversation between them couldn't hurt. Creeping up on the man and just as he was about to scare him a voice sounds out.
"You're going to have to try harder than that if you want to scare me" Gun grunts, turning his head slowly to give Daniel an unamused look. Daniel was stunned to find ungelled yet damp, loose hair falling over the man's forehead and a lack of sunglasses on his face.
"Awe" Daniel lets out as he pouts.
Gun huffs out a soft laugh at the reaction before turning back to his food.
"So…Since when was there a mess hall? If I knew this existed then I could have been eating here instead of buying food from the convenience store?" Daniel remarks as he looks around the hall, hands on his hips as he lets out a whistle at the high ceilings.
"We have a kitchen but we don't keep it stocked nor do we have cooks so there wouldn't be a point in telling you" Gun replies as she shoves…was that macaroni and cheese? Into his mouth.
"But there's a microwave and a working kettle? I could have been making my coffee here" Daniel groans as he takes a seat next to Gun. He could have sat at the other end of the table or in front of the man but instead, he scooted right over into Gun's space. Their shoulders and hips were touching but Gun didn't so much as bat an eye or push him away, instead he continued eating.
"We have a coffee machine in there" The elder points out and Daniel gapes.
"Why is it that you have a kitchen with all its working utensils but no one uses it? If anything you could make it CC-exclusive where the members can pay a small fee for a meal or something like that. You could get people to come in and cook, it'd be nice" He adds.
"This isn't a school" Gun grunts.
"It doesn't have to be, but it'd promote a better sense of community and keep the fighters strong and healthy" Daniel nudges Gun's shoulder. The larger man's body ran a lot hotter than Daniel's, he couldn't help but lean into his side to seek out his warmth.
"The CC operates because they fight each other out of hate" The founder snorts.
"From what I've seen I think they do it for the money and because you founders have scared them into joining" Daniel quips as he kicks his feet against the floor. "Also I think most of them are friends or at the very least civil with each other. They're more inclined to give it a good fight if they're comrades who don't back down from each other. Also, rather than dirty fighting I think you'd see more skillful martial arts which I'm going to make a guess and say is more of your interest" He hums and there was a thoughtful look on Gun's face.
"Also you'd be putting this place to use, isn't it a waste to not use the hall for its intended purpose? Furthermore, if more people use the hall it will encourage a sense of community and bonding. That is what the CC was built to be, right? To stop the excessive fighting and gang wars on the streets, having them get along would prevent that" Daniel reasons and it might have been a hopeful point of view but it did make sense in the long run.
"I guess I see it" The Founder relents and having Gun agree with what Daniel was trying to pitch felt weird. Wouldn't the elder try disagreeing and arguing with him about it? "I reckon if you pitched something like that to James he would be willing to cater to it, seeing as he has a soft spot for you" Gun mentions and this gets Daniel to look up at the man in confusion.
"He's fond of me?"
"Hell I think most of the people here are" Gun shrugs as he finishes his food and closes his container. "Is that such a shock?"
It was. Seeing as before the CC he didn't have a lot of friends or people that liked him in general.
"I should get going, can't leave Olly alone for too long" Daniel states as he reluctantly stands up, leaving the warmth behind.
"Give me a second" Gun states as he stands up as well, brushing off non-existent dust off his pants before turning to Daniel who was watching him in bewilderment.
"You don't need to walk me to my own office" Daniel relays to the elder who shrugs again.
"We're going the same way" It was said so nonchalantly that Daniel had trouble trying to decipher if it was truly the reason or if Gun was offering to walk him. Sighing, the two begin their journey back to their office in companionable silence. Since when did Daniel get comfortable enough with Gun to walk with him casually like this? When did he stop getting annoyed by the man's presence?
Then again, Gun has seen him naked and completely unravelled. There was no point in being awkward anymore.
"Do you usually eat your meals there?" Daniel questions.
"Occasionally if Goo packs me leftovers for work, the idiot is surprisingly a decent cook when he's not trying to purposefully kill me" Gun answers and that leads to even more questions.
"Goo cooks for you?" The thought of the blonde founder slaving away in front of a hot stove in an apron was unique.
"Seeing as we live together it's only fair that he cooks…then again, I can't cook so there's that to factor in. I do the dishwashing though and I clean up around the apartment, he does laundry…" Having Gun so casually explain his personal life and hearing that he lived a normal life like anyone else did was strange but comforting. Hearing that Goo and Gun were roommates also explained why the two bicker so much, at least they split their chores.
"Why don't you hire people to do these things for you? Surely you have the money for it" Daniel muses.
"We don't trust people to come into our home to do that, comes with the job unfortunately" Daniel hadn't thought about it from Gun's perspective. A lot of people must hate him and the other founders.
"I see…so what caused you to room with Goo of all people, from how I've seen you interact with him I'd think he would be the last person you'd choose to live with" The more information that Gun was giving him the more Daniel wanted to know. The elder didn't seem annoyed with Daniel nosing into his business so he was going to persist until he was told off.
"Oh trust me, he's an aggravating person but luckily he's not that bad to live with. I've known the guy for years now and as irritating as he is, he has decent qualities. He knows how to cook, he helps take care of a house well enough and even if he's a loud individual he's not loud to live with" Even if Gun looked annoyed at the thought of Goo there was some fondness in his voice.
Daniel was going to continue talking when he noticed that the medical bay door that he had closed on the way out was now open and soft murmuring was heard from inside. Pausing and grabbing onto Gun to stop him in his tracks, Daniel nods to the open door, giving Gun a wary look as the founder raises a brow. Making their way over quietly they peer through the doorway to see Eli sitting in a chair and talking to Olly. The two weren't trying to be quiet so it was easy to make out what they were saying.
"I'm sorry about what I did, I didn't have any intention of harming you like this" Eli voices out as Olly looks at him stoically.
"But you did want to hurt me, didn't you?" Olly grumbles, his hands clenching the bedsheets and his phone tightly. Eli let out a soft sigh, his shoulders falling.
"I did and I'm ashamed of it. I should have known better than to act the way I did and I regret how I hurt you…I'm sorry" Eli replies.
Olly takes a moment to collect himself, breathing in and out before he looks up and meets Eli's gaze.
"I accept" Olly states bluntly before nodding at the other. "You can leave now, I know how much you don't want to talk to me and I know you probably didn't come here on your own accord. You don't need to suffer in my presence anymore" He adds but Eli shakes his head.
"I know it took a lot of people to push me in the right direction but…I'm willing to listen to you now. I know I didn't give you the chance to explain yourself properly but it was because I was so angry at you…I felt betrayed but it took a lot for me to realise that you probably do have a reasonable explanation so please…please talk to me" Eli asks of Olly who lets out a sarcastic smile.
"Oh? Now you want to listen to me? After months and months of ignoring me, you now want to finally grace me with your presence and attention? Do you know how much it hurt to have you ignore me every time I wanted to explain myself? It hurt like shit, Eli. You hurt me" Olly shakes his head. "Do you really want to know or is it the guilt in you that is pushing you to ask?" His voice was wavering and he looked close to bursting into hysterics.
"Olly…" Eli tries to reach out with his hand but Olly immediately snatches his own away.
"No, you don't get to 'Olly' me, you don't get to use that tone or use that look on me anymore…I…You left me when I needed you which yeah I guess is fair considering I broke our promise. Considering I was the one who originally hurt you, since I've pulled so much shit on you but after knowing each other for so long…when I begged you to stay…you left me. For someone who knows how it feels to be left alone you sure do it a lot to others" Olly laughs bitterly, wiping his eyes.
"I know I hurt you and I'm not going to try and justify my actions but you have to understand it from my perspective-" "I did understand it from your perspective, I gave you the time to yell at me, I gave you months to calm down and I even begged for you to listen to me…just piss off Eli, I don't need your pity, not anymore" The fact neither men had resorted to fighting each other physically was a shock but the current conversation was going nowhere.
Daniel takes a step forward but Gun immediately stops him, shaking his head as he leans back against the wall, his free hand shoved into his pocket. Letting out a sigh, Daniel stands next to him, their shoulders touching as they wait and listen. If things got ugly then Daniel would intercept, no matter if Gun tried to hold him back. Olly was hurt and he was his patient, he wouldn't stand for any fighting that could potentially take place.
"I'm not giving you my pity or sympathy, I know you enough to know that you hate that sort of thing" Eli's voice turns soft, slightly defeated by the pessimistic attitude that Olly was showing him but Daniel couldn't help but feel that it was deserved. "If you've come to hate me this much after what I've done to you then…we won't have to see or talk to each other anymore. I'll leave you alone from here on out, you just need to say the word" Eli adds.
There was a moment of silence before Olly was letting out disbelieving huffs of laughter, the sound was wet with sobs.
"If you knew me you'd know that I don't want that. You'd know how much I hate the thought of that" Olly gasps out, his voice shaking as Eli lets out an aggravated noise.
"You tell me to piss off and you're angry at me yet when I tell you I'll leave you get even more upset. Olly, I know I don't understand things well so I need you to explain to me clearly what you want. I'm shit at reading between the lines so please, if you want me to go tell me to go, if you want to explain your side of what happened then I'm all ears, if you want to hit me as revenge then go for it. Please, I just need to understand what you want right now" His tone was desperate and it took a moment before there was rustling of sheets and soft sniffling.
"You know, the shittiest I've ever felt was when I was around you and Hostel B" Olly admits and Eli might have tried to cutting him off to speak but Olly cuts him off. "No, just let me speak, all you need to do is listen" He reprimands and Eli hums in agreement.
"I always used to think it would be just Heather and I against the world, against the hardships our parents used to throw at us. I…I thought that we'd be together forever, that we'd get married, have kids and grow old together because that was something she promised me. You know I loved her just as much as you did, it might not have been the same kind of love but it was the love you have for someone who understands you and sticks by your side. Then Sally joined us and I thought…I thought it would be fine because it meant that I had another friend…but then along came you and Warren and Derrick and Max and at first I was amazed. New faces, new friends and a potential family that could love me the way my parents never did" Olly snorts under his breath. "That dream fell short before it even started. I may have been present but I was never a part of the group you led. You took everything I had and made it your own and I was too stupid to even realise it because I wanted to be yours too, I wanted to be a part of it all so bad that I was blindsided by it"
Daniel listened sombrely, maybe eavesdropping wasn't a good idea after all. Looking at Gun for an opinion the elder was merely patiently listening, he might have been bored if it weren't for the fact that his body language was tense.
'Not into melodramatic things my ass' Daniel thought.
"Everyone in that group had someone. Sally and Warren have each other, Derrick and Max, and I thought I had Heather but she wanted you and you reciprocated so where did that leave me? Heather and you were my favourite people but I realised that I was no one's favourite, I was just kind of there. Existing in that reality but not in yours. So when I found out Heather was pregnant I got angry and jealous and I…I fucked everything up. I broke you guys apart, I was the one who…who practically killed her and now she's gone forever and I can never make it up to her. I can never tell my best friend how sorry I am for what I did, I can't tell her how much I miss her and I can't even hold her or have her hold me. You know, some days I can't even remember how she looks anymore" Olly's voice held a hollowness that no one had ever heard before, it was the sound of a defeated man who knew nothing mattered anymore.
"When that shit show ended and I was kicked out I didn't have anywhere to go, I didn't have parents to go to anymore after the stunt I pulled on them, I didn't have Heather either so I roamed the streets looking for a reprieve…that's when I met him" Suddenly Olly's voice turned steel like as he spat the last word like venom. "Darius Hong suddenly had me in his grasp when I was at my lowest and I could do nothing to stop him. He…he took advantage of me in a way that has made me hate myself, made me feel disgusting" Olly spat the words out as if saying it in any other way would make him cower and stop.
"He sexually assaulted me"
Someone, likely Eli, sucka in a sharp breath whereas Daniel has to hold his own hands to his mouth to stop his shocked sounds. If Daniel hadn't been upset before then the steady flow of silent tears slipping down his face showcased that he was now. A hand wraps around his free hand and Daniel notes that It's Gun who's wrapped his fingers there and was rubbing his skin placatingly. There was a hard look on Gun's face.
"Olly-" "I didn't want it, I hated it. If you believe anything I'm saying I want you to believe this. His ass was sent to juvie for a while because of it but no one apart from the police, him and I know about what happened. I hated myself for the longest time after it happened, so much so that I went to that bastard Gun to have him teach me how to fight. I became a wild animal because of him and I don't regret it, I asked for it. Afterwards, I decided to fuck you all and start my crew and people. The first to come along were Justin and Chuck, it was mostly business at first but now I trust those guys with my life and I hope they can trust me with theirs. There were others and of course, now there's James Gong and with him came Jasmine. For the first time ever I had my little group who didn't mind me, who knew I was annoying but had stuck by my side. We joined the CC but soon after you guys did as well. At that point in my life, I knew I had to apologise to you guys and I did, it took forever but it worked out well" A huff of a smile could be heard even from where Daniel stood.
"I was content, I had my crew and for a while, I had your forgiveness. Then I had you and I couldn't have been more ecstatic. Everything was perfect until Darius was let out of Juvie and came back into my life. I tried avoiding him, ignoring him but the fucker wouldn't quit it and one day he found me on my own and…and he told me that If I didn't fight him then he would get his revenge on me a different way. He wanted revenge for me putting his ass behind bars. He told me he'd go after you, I told him it was wishful thinking, you were stronger than him and I knew you wouldn't lose to him. Then he started talking about going after Sally, Jasmine and the other girls and started talking about how even though he didn't swing that way, if it would make me suffer then he'd hurt them in ways only I knew how it hurt. Then the bastard started talking about Yenna and I just saw red, without thinking I accepted his fight and when the time in the arena came I couldn't let what he said go"
"That's why you almost killed Darius because that sick fucker said he'd hurt us…you did all that to protect us" Eli puts together and Olly makes a sound of agreement. His reasons, his cause, were much more valiant than the monster people painted him out to be.
"I never knew…I never knew this was the reason and if I had just listened to you then you wouldn't have had to suffer all by yourself…" Eli comes to realise. "Shit…I really am an idiot, a world-class fucking idiot!" He shouts not at Olly but more at himself.
"Yeah, you kind of were," Olly agrees.
Now that the secrets were all out and open in the air there was only one last thing to do.
"Thank you, Olly, I don't know how I could ever thank you enough" Eli whispers.
"You could start by not avoiding me anymore" Olly replies.
"I won't do that anymore I promise, I promise I'll do my best to fix us. To fix what I did so we can go back to what we were. I'm so sorry, Olly" Eli apologises but the sound of someone sucking in their breath has Daniel's heart stopping.
"I don't think we should go back to what we were" The admission leaves everyone feeling confused. "I know we had our fun and I enjoyed what it was but I can't do it again. I don't think I'd survive it if you cut me out of your life for the third time" Olly informs.
"I won't, I won't hurt you like that again, I promise" "Since when has a promise between us ever lasted? Eli we're not good together, we hurt each other in ways that should be the death of us. I don't mind if we're friends, friendship is something I can handle but anything more than that will burn me. Let's save ourselves the heartbreak, we gave it a go, it didn't work out, and we move on. Can we try that?" Olly begs, and Eli pauses before responding.
"Yes, we can do that. If that's what you want then I can respect that"
"Thank you"
Daniel let out a silent breath of relief, he didn't think his heart could stand much more of their relationship.
"Do you want me to leave now? It's gotten late and you should be sleeping" Eli murmurs.
"You can stay, I don't mind and I'm sure Doctor Park won't mind either. He's nice to me" Olly states and Eli hums in agreement.
"He's a good person, brash and sometimes stubborn but a good person nonetheless" Eli agrees. There's some shuffling around but Daniel rules it as safe enough to leave. Gesturing for Gun to follow him and leave the two alone, both Doctor and Founder quietly walk away.
