Chapter 44: Police
No matter how corrupt a city was and how poor the management there was over it, it was still possible to salvage the situation.
If the police forces in place were corrupt or incapable of dealing with the major problems then there would be times when they would have to request help from the outside.
If they did not ask for help then there was always a chance that outsiders from other larger places and organisations would begin to notice the strangeness of such a place and would want to make changes themselves.
Such a place could not be allowed to remain unchecked forever since it could become a much bigger problem later down the line.
Even if the gangs were in control of a city, they could still not arrogantly go around doing anything they wanted without there being consequences.
The city that Butch and his gang had been a part of was such a place that had a very poor reputation when it came to the quality of policing and the hero presence being very weak and ineffective.
It was mainly the gangs that kept each other in check while the heroes and police would always be struggling to maintain peace and order in the city.
If there were some big events and a trail of dead bodies being left behind that were connected to those events then those events could become a driving force for others to get involved in the matters related to the gangs.
All that could be done about that was for the gangs to be more careful with how they proceeded with certain things and that they had to learn how to quickly clean up after themselves.
If they did not clean up their messes then it was something that could come back to haunt them later.
A lot of the more competent gangs had access to at least one or more cleaners who handled such matters.
They were either a part of the gang or they were the type to do such work as a part of their main profession.
They arrived at the locations they were told to go to and carried out their jobs as cleaners.
They handled anything from body disposal, crime scene cleaning, evidence removal and much more.
Each of them had their channels and methods to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible allowing for dead bodies to be removed from crime scenes and to have other signs of an event removed.
The gang that Butch was a part of had one contact who handled such matters and usually came in right away.
They were contacted the moment that Butch had been able to get in touch with the higher-ups in his gang and they arrived to clean up the many dead bodies that had been left there.
The moment that the police and heroes had finally been tipped off about the disturbance in that area, they arrived there to look over the scene but they found very little.
There were some minor signs of there being a struggle between others but there were no bodies found and there were no cameras in the area.
If no bodies were found then they would be unable to pin any of the deaths on any of the gangs.
If there was no surveillance around the area then there was nobody to connect any of it to.
There would be no victims, no culprits and no evidence related to the crime so there was little that could be done.
The area was one of several meeting places or owned parts that were affiliated with the gangs of the city making it difficult for the police and the heroes to gain much from when it came to such matters.
The only way to get anything useful would be if they caught someone in the act or arrived on the scene much sooner.
The police were patrolling the whole area searching for anything yet they could find very little even with the assistance of a couple of heroes.
They continued to patrol the area in search of anything as they made use of different types of sensory and investigative powers related to the Quirks some of them had available.
The only conclusion they could reach was that something had happened there but either both sides had already split up and parted ways or the scene had already been tampered with.
Since they had nothing to go on, they would only be stuck chasing the shadows of whatever happened there.
If they did not have enough to go on then they had to just put the investigation on hold or they would have to put it in the unsolved section of their cases.
As some people were walking around and looking over the area in search of some things, one among the police had been doing the same.
It was a male who was searching a separate area on his own and he was rummaging through a lot of the trash that was lying around.
He had a look of nervousness on his face as he opened some trash bags and pulled some things from inside of them.
Seeing that there was nothing of use that had been found, he took a moment to calm himself down and reached toward his pocket.
He pulled out a phone and moment later then made a call. "Hello?"
