Leviathan: Rise of the Abyss

Chapter 8: Wings of Deception

"The most dangerous truths are often hidden behind charming lies and untamed power." By Unknown

Sophia sighed as she stepped out of the elevator into the penthouse, the soft click of her heels echoing in the pristine silence. It had been a long day at work, filled with meetings that felt more draining than productive. She kicked off her shoes by the door, her shoulders sagging in relief.

As she walked into the living room, the glow of the setting sun cast warm hues across the space, but it did little to ease the storm in her mind. Her thoughts kept circling back to Leviathan—to the way he had smiled at her the night before, to his infuriating charm that had a way of catching her off guard.

Sophia froze when she noticed him sitting casually on the couch, his legs stretched out, flipping through a book as though he had all the time in the world. He didn't look up immediately, but the corners of his lips tugged into a knowing smirk.

"You're home late," Leviathan said without looking at her, his voice smooth and teasing.

"It's called a job," Sophia replied, walking past him toward the kitchen. "Some of us actually work during the day."

Leviathan chuckled, finally setting the book aside. "Some of us protect the people who work during the day."

Sophia stopped in her tracks and turned to face him, her arms crossed. "Protect me? From what? My overbearing boss or the vending machine that ate my dollar today?"

His expression darkened slightly, the playful glint in his eyes replaced by something heavier. "From things you don't even realize are lurking around you."

The shift in his tone sent a chill down her spine, but she masked it with a roll of her eyes. "Right. Because the great Leviathan Morgan is my knight in shining armor now."

Leviathan stood, his towering frame making her feel small yet oddly safe. He stepped closer, his gaze piercing. "Sophia, I'm not joking. If you'd take a second to listen instead of deflecting, you'd understand that the danger isn't a joke."

Sophia opened her mouth to retort, but the weight in his voice stilled her. For a moment, she saw concern from expression

"What kind of danger?" she asked, her voice softer now.

Leviathan studied her for a moment before answering, "One I intend to eliminate. But first, let's have dinner" Leviathan said with a smile as went to the dinner lounge

"I'll take a shower first" Sophia said as she went into her room quickly and she saw that Alice was already home

"So you are home already" Sophia said in surprise "Yes, you where too busy today after all you are now an Attending Physician and no longer one of us" Alice said and Sophia nodded "Yes of course, I'm now above all of you" Sophia said smugly and they both started laughing

"You both should be fast, the dinner will get cold" Leviathan said "Okay" Alice and Sophia replied "Is it just me or we got familiar with with this guy too quickly" Sophia asked and Alice shrugged "Well he's attractive, it's just like seeing a model. Who wouldn't feel familiar with that kind of person quickly" Alice asked and Sophia nodded before she took of her clothes and headed to the showers

Ten minutes later, Alice and Sophia came out of the room to eat. As the all sat down to eat the elevator door opened with a chime and Lotan entered humming a song "I hope you both don't mind me joining you guys for dinner tonight" Lotan said happily

"What is making you so joyous today, brother" Leviathan said as he layed emphasis on the word brother "I just happened to break up with my girlfriend today" Lotan said smiling "You have a girlfriend" Leviathan asked confused

"I had, the verb is had not have" Lotan corrected and Leviathan looked at him confused "What I'm saying is that I'm single now because I just broke up with my girlfriend" Lotan said while rolling his eyes at Leviathan

Sophia's brow furrowed as she watched Lotan casually slide into a chair, his grin wide and unapologetic. It was odd seeing him so cheerful—almost unsettling.

"You don't seem broken up about the breakup," Sophia said, her fork poised mid-air.

Lotan shrugged, reaching for a piece of bread. "Why should I be? She was too clingy. Always asking where I was, what I was doing. A guy needs space, you know?"

Sophia arched a brow, exchanging a glance with Alice. "Or maybe you're just been emotionally unavailable."

Lotan placed a hand over his heart in as he said with sarcasm. "Ouch, Sophia. You wound me."

"She's not wrong," Leviathan chimed in, his tone cool as he sipped from his glass. "You have a tendency to avoid anything that requires accountability. Relationships included."

Lotan rolled his eyes dramatically. "Here we go. Big brother Leviathan, always the moral compass. You do know that I am you right and you can't lecture me since you have only been in the world for like two or three days"

Sophia looked at the two men suspiciously "What do you mean by saying that you are him" Sophia asked "You wouldn't understand" both Leviathan and Lotan said at the same time

Alice snorted softly, leaning back in her chair. "You both to chill and I'm surprised you had a girlfriend at all, Lotan. I mean, you don't exactly scream 'committed partner' material."

Lotan grinned, unfazed by the jab. "What can I say? Some women find my charm irresistible."

Sophia shook her head, muttering, "More like exhausting."

Leviathan leaned forward, his gaze sharp as he addressed Lotan. "You didn't bring her into this building, did you?"

Lotan froze, his carefree demeanor faltering for the first time. "Of course not. Do you think I'm stupid?"

"No, I don't think you are stupid, I knythat you are stupid since you are like the me of long ago" Leviathan said, his tone deadly serious.

Sophia glanced between the brothers, a knot forming in her stomach. "What's so special about this place?"

Leviathan shifted his gaze to look at her "What is special isn't the building, it's us. We are the special ones" he said as he winked his eyes at Sophia and she lost her composure a bit since she wasn't expecting him to do something like that

"Okay let's start eating before the whole food gets cold" Lotan said and they all began eating. When everyone was done eating Leviathan volunteered to wash the dishes and Alice decided to help him

"So you and Lotan are brothers" Alice said as Leviathan began washing the dishes "What?, we don't look alike enough" Leviathan asked with a serious expression as he focused on cleaning the dishes

"No it's not that but..." Alice paused halfway "but our behavior are very different from one another" Leviathan said completing what Alice wanted to say "Right" Alice said confirming what Leviathan said

"We are closer than a lot of people think you know, it's just that Lotan was the social one while I always the introvert" Leviathan said as he passed another dish to Alice to arrange it.

"Don't you both have parents?, I have never heard anything about you guys having one and y es t you have the entire Greysquire building to yourself while you also have other business." Alice asked and Leviathan laughed

"We have only known each other for less than week and you want to know my parents" Leviathan said as he raised an eyebrow at Alice who coughed in embarrassment

Leviathan laughed more when he saw Alice flustered "We have parents, but they aren't the most welcoming and forgiving" Leviathan said and Alice frowned a bit

"So how did you acquire all this wealth when you guys parents are not supportive" Alice asked "There are a lot of ways to make money apart from parents support you know, we are not some second generation rich kids" Leviathan said and Alice mouthed an ohh

"Why do you suddenly care about our source of wealth" Leviathan asked curiously "Nothing, I just find you both unrealistic and apart from that I feel like we are getting to close quickly" Alice said with a nervous smile

"Well we are living together, so it's only normal for us to get closer" Leviathan said as he passed the last plate to Alice and then cleaned his hands "You should go to sleep early today" Leviathan said as he left the kitchen "I hope Sophia doesn't play hard to get with him" Alice whispered to herself

*****In the penthouse at midnight*****

Leviathan was on the rooftop shirtless with his wings out. This time the wings were brownish red in colour. He kept on drinking from the wine glass in his hand and soon he heard the door to the rooftop open and immediately his wings went back into his body

Sophia walked on to the rooftop and found Leviathan shirtless and immediately she covered her eyes "You should put on a shirt when out here, it's cold" Sophia said and Leviathan decided to wear his top "Not that I feel the cold but I can surely feel your shyness, haven't you seen a man's body before" Leviathan asked teasing her

"Shit up and just wear your damn top" Sophia said and finished fixing his buttons "I'm all dressed already" Leviathan said and Sophia decided to take the her hands off her face "I hope I am not disturbing your quiet time" Sophia asked "No you are not" Leviathan said before he asked

"What's the problem?, You can't sleep again" and Sophia who walked up to where he was replied "No" and Leviathan eyebrows got raised in surprise "Why are you out here then" Leviathan asked as he took another sip for his glass

"I'm here to thank you for all the help you have given me and Alice so far and also for today's dinner" Sophia said and Leviathan nodded "I'm sure that isn't all right" Leviathan said and Sophia nodded "We will be moving out tomorrow" Sophia said and Leviathan nodded "Okay then" Leviathan said and Sophia was surprised at how Leviathan accepted the news

"Okay, see you tomorrow I guess" Sophia said as she looked at Leviathan suspiciously while walking away "Good night" Leviathan said and Sophia nodded before going inside.

Once Sophia entered the glass in Leviathan's hand broke as fangs came out of his mouth itching him "What on earth is happening right now" Leviathan thought to himself as his wings suddenly came out of back without his command and they tore his top "I can't control my body" Leviathan thought as he stumbled around and suddenly everything went dark as he fell down from the rooftop and he was moving straight downwards

Just as he was about to touch the ground a shadow popped up and immediately he fell through the shadows into a dark realm. Leviathan looked around with his unfocused eyes. "Where am I" Leviathan asked as the sound of his heavy breathing was heard everything in the dark realm and the sound of high heels was heard as a figure walk closer to Leviathan "Who are you?, What do you want from me?" Leviathan asked and all he got was the sound of a woman laughing

"I can't believe it was this easy to capture you Levi" the unknown woman said and Leviathan eyes widened in surprised as he slowly turned his head backwards
