Legacy of the Dragon Lord

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The First Temple

The journey to the First Temple of the Dragonlord had taken them several days. The forests and mountains grew more treacherous as they neared their destination, and Shira could feel the oppressive weight of the dark forces closing in around them. It was as though Darkwind was aware of their every move, his presence a constant shadow in the back of her mind.

But she refused to let it control her. Not anymore.

The power inside her—her dragonlord blood—was something she could no longer ignore. It was a part of her, and whether she liked it or not, she had to learn to wield it. The more she resisted it, the more it consumed her. If she was ever going to stop Darkwind, she had to understand it, control it, and use it.

Elias walked beside her, his expression thoughtful. "We're close," he said, his voice low. "The temple is just beyond these mountains."

Shira nodded, her gaze fixed ahead. She couldn't help but feel the weight of the journey ahead of them. The temple was their last hope, but it was also a place of immense power. Would it offer her the answers she needed? Or would it only remind her of the destruction she had caused?

"How do you think we'll get inside?" she asked, her voice barely audible.

Elias smiled faintly. "If anyone can find a way in, it's you."

Shira's brow furrowed. "Me? I don't even know what I'm doing half the time."

"You're the descendant of the Dragonlord," Elias reminded her gently. "You've always known more than you think. You have the blood of the first Dragonlord running through your veins. That's why you're here. You're meant for this."

His words stirred something in her, but doubt quickly followed. She hadn't asked for this power. She hadn't asked for any of it. She had only wanted to live a normal life, to find peace, to love and be loved. But now, it seemed like everything had changed. There was no turning back. She couldn't go back to the life she had once known.

"Let's just get to the temple," she said, her voice cold and determined.

They pressed on, the path growing steeper as they ascended the mountain. The air was thin, and the temperature dropped with every step, but Shira barely noticed. Her mind was consumed with thoughts of what lay ahead—of Darkwind, of Darin, of the weight of the power inside her. The power that she had almost lost control of before. The power that was calling to her now.

As they reached the summit, the temple came into view. It was ancient—stone pillars rising into the sky, covered in moss and ivy. It looked like a place out of legend, untouched by time, as though it had been waiting for them.

"This is it," Elias said softly, his voice filled with awe.

Shira stood at the entrance, staring at the temple before her. She had no idea what she would find inside, but she knew one thing for sure.

It was time to face her destiny.
