Facing the murderous look in the Mist ninja's eyes, Aburame Muto couldn't help but take a sharp breath.
"Tetsuya! You really have high hopes for me!"
He glanced at the advancing enemy with a wry smile. "Even though I'm not as strong as you, I'll do my best."
"Reliable as ever," Tetsuya replied with a nod. "I'll leave it to you then."
With that, he turned to Uchiha Mikoto. As their eyes met, no words were needed. Months of working together had built a silent understanding between them.
"Genjutsu: Fox Heart Illusion."
"Lightning Style: Chidori!"
Under the cover of Mikoto's illusion, Tetsuya's figure flickered through the mist like a blur of shadows. Each movement brought a swift, precise kill, and every time he shifted direction, another life was snuffed out.
"Damn it! What kind of jutsu is this?!"
Watching Tetsuya close in, sweat poured down the forehead of Nakamura Kazuo, the Mist ninja captain. He hastily formed hand signs in a frantic attempt to defend himself.
"Tiger—Snake—Rat—Snake—Tiger! Water Style: Water Wall!"
A wave of water erupted between them, forming a sturdy barrier. But Tetsuya didn't even slow down.
"Your water jutsu's not half bad," he remarked, the Chidori crackling ominously in his hand. "But it's nowhere near strong enough!"
The lightning-infused hand tore through the water like it was nothing. The next thing Kazuo felt was a burning pain in his chest, as Tetsuya's attack shredded through his defenses.
"Sorry, old man," Tetsuya said calmly, his voice barely audible over the crackle of electricity. "Looks like your time's up."
With a deafening crash, Kazuo's charred body was slammed into the deck, twitching once before going still.
———
From the moment Uchiha Mikoto cast her genjutsu to the point where Tetsuya had taken down six Mist ninjas, including Nakamura Kazuo, less than a minute had passed. The abrupt and overwhelming change left the remaining Mist ninja—now just one special jonin—terrified.
Under normal circumstances, taking down one elite chunin, two regular chunin, and three genin would have been difficult, but not impossible. With a bit of luck and the right strategies, maybe he could've pulled through. But now? The situation had gone from bad to impossible.
"Water Style: Hidden Mist Jutsu!"
Thick mist began to seep into the air, further obscuring the already dim and shadowy ship deck. The fog enveloped everything, making it nearly impossible to see.
"Muto! Mikoto! Be careful!" Tetsuya called out as the mist thickened around them. "This guy... he's different from the others we've fought. If I'm right, he's been through Mist Village's Anbu training. He's dangerous."
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Tetsuya quickly raised a kunai, stepping back to back with Mikoto as they adopted a defensive stance.
"You're sharp, kid," the Mist jonin's voice echoed eerily from the mist. "I did spend a few years in the Anbu. It was hell, but it taught me the Silent Killing Technique—a terrifying skill that even the strongest dread."
"Congratulations," Tetsuya muttered sarcastically, scanning the surrounding fog. "It's an honor to be killed by one of Mist Village's secret techniques, huh?"
The jonin's voice grew cocky, bouncing unpredictably from different corners of the ship. "Lucky for you, it's not every day someone gets to experience my silent killing firsthand!"
"Annoying as hell," Tetsuya grumbled under his breath. "This guy's as bad as that idiot Suigetsu." He quickly assessed the situation. Fog and silent killing—it's a good combination. But... he's made a fatal mistake.
Turning his head slightly, he spoke to the mist. "You're using Hidden Mist Jutsu on a ship in the middle of the sea, genius. Where exactly do you think you can hide?"
"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"
Being surrounded by the ocean meant that Tetsuya had access to an almost unlimited supply of water. His chakra surged, and in the distance, the sound of waves crashing grew louder as the enormous form of a water dragon rose from the sea.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" the Mist jonin's voice wavered, panic creeping in. "You realize you could capsize the whole ship, right?!"
Tetsuya smirked, watching the water dragon loom ever closer to the ship. "That's the plan. We're outnumbered here, so if it comes down to taking you and the two jonin inside the ship with me... I'd say that's a win."
As the water dragon descended, the Mist jonin frantically scrambled to defend himself. "Damn you, brat! You think you can take me down with you?!"
"Water Style: Water Wall!"
The jonin's defense was stronger than Kazuo's had been. But Tetsuya's enhanced water dragon was on a completely different level. With a deafening roar, the dragon crashed through the water wall, slamming into the Mist jonin and hurling him, along with several crates from the deck, into the sea.
"Shame," Tetsuya muttered, staring at the floating debris. He was genuinely disappointed. "That was a special jonin, too. Killing him would've been worth a lot of points."
Muto, hearing the frustration in Tetsuya's voice, misinterpreted it. "Don't blame yourself, Tetsuya. We're lucky to have driven him off at all."
Tetsuya glanced at Muto and sighed internally. Well, I guess there's no point explaining the kill count system to them. Just let them believe it's about survival.
Before he could dwell further, a pair of familiar voices called out from the distance.
"Tetsuya! Mikoto!"
It was Uzumaki Heiji and Uzumaki Namihana, finally arriving after their delay. Tetsuya shook his head, smiling.
"Heiji! Namihana! Took you long enough. Where's Sensei?"
The two Uzumakis quickly approached, their expressions serious as they explained the situation.
To be continued...
