Kingdom: The Black Moon Assassin

Chapter 48: A Path Together

"My sister was the strongest in the ceremony; I knew she would win. I didn't mind dying at her hands, knowing her desire to step into the outside world was greater than mine."

Jun sat beside Kyou Kai, who had decided to open up to him. This was the first time since her sister's death that she had spoken about it with anyone else. She felt that she could trust Jun with these things; after all, he had lived a life similar to hers.

"I am sure that if we had both participated, she wouldn't be dead. But before the trial, she gave me some kind of drug that ended up numbing all my senses." Kyou Kai paused when she said these words.

It was still difficult for her to recall the past; not much time had passed since it had happened.

Jun understood. He hadn't lost anything, but he had experienced the anger and helplessness of weakness. He knew that there was a similarity between both feelings.

"When I arrived at the ceremony site, it was over. I knew no one could defeat my sister because I couldn't either. Wanting to prove that the princess who won had done so by unfair means, I used my strength to escape from that place."

"No one could stop me; I was faster, stronger, and more skilled... If I can escape and I never managed to beat my sister, isn't it clear that she was defeated in the same way you were attacked?"

"I want revenge. I want to kill her, and I will when I find her."

Jun admired the courage of this girl, as he hadn't dared to leave the Asura village even when he had the skills to do so. He thought that if he left, they would send assassins to kill him.

That wasn't the life he wanted, so he took advantage of the best way to be free for a while, and that was to win the ceremony.

"I don't know what I want, but right now, I think I'm interested in helping you fulfill your revenge. It's both a gain and a pleasure; I would get to meet that crazy woman who I think will try to kill me later." Jun wasn't sure about this; Trevor filled his head with hundreds and thousands of ways in which women had killed Black Moons.

One was worse than the other, so Jun had to be sure if he wanted to sleep like he was at home.

"Fine, I'll leave you alone."

"Where are you going?"

Jun looked towards a corner where his clothes were and said, "Maybe they need me to secretly take care of the great generals who are still in the hills, but I don't know if I should do it for this kingdom that has given me nothing."

"It's better not to get involved with the royal family..."

"As I said, I don't trust many people." Jun turned away without saying anything else. He felt some people approaching, so he decided to find them before they found him.

When Jun left the tent, he encountered a group of soldiers heading in his direction.

Trevor appeared at his side and asked, "Are you sure about making friends with that girl?"

"Do you have a problem with my decisions?" Jun didn't look at Trevor, but he knew he wasn't asking for something that could be against him.

"I think it's dangerous."

"I wouldn't put it that way. She wants to solve a problem for me, so I will help her achieve it." Jun wasn't specific with his words, but Trevor could imagine something.

"By the way, she said she didn't want to get involved in the war."

"My plans depend on Qin; it is still a problem I have to manage, but I'll deal with it later. Besides, you mentioned her brother is still alive."

"Yes..."

"Wonderful, if the King of Qin orders me again, we could replace him." Jun had no attachment to anyone; on the contrary, Qin owed him a lot.

All those criminals he had turned into slaves were working hard in his plans, and much more was what he had been doing lately.

The world was trash, and he was just cleaning it up; the King wasn't on his list of priorities, and he still isn't to this day.
