A few months before Chapter 15 - Ruby PoV

"Congratulations on graduating from Signal, Kiddo, you're one step away from being a hunter." I smiled widely at Uncle Qrow's congratulations as he ruffled my hair. He had approached me after the diploma ceremony. He was the first to greet me once the ceremony was over. After all, he was a teacher at Signal.

"Thanks Uncle Qrow!" I exclaimed happily before pointing my finger at him arrogantly "I can't wait to go to Beacon, you'll see, I'll be a better hunter than you!" Uncle Qrow burst out laughing at my challenge.

"You can try Kiddo, but this old man can still kick your ass at any time" I puffed out my cheeks at Uncle Qrow's mockery.

"You'll see, old man, I'll prove it to you," I growled lightly in his direction, Uncle Qrow laughed happily before I burst out laughing as well.

"Alright kiddo, let's go to the family, everyone is waiting for you, today is your day." Uncle Qrow said playfully, my eyes widened excitedly.

"Are there cookies?! It can't be my day if there are no cookies, Uncle Qrow! " I exclaimed quickly, Uncle Qrow sighed with a smile.

"Of course there are, kiddo."

" Yay ! Let's go! " I wrapped my arm around Uncle Qrow and started dragging him.

" Ruby ! Congratulations!! " I could barely react when Dad wrapped me in a tight hug.

" guhr , a-air! Daddy, air! " I moaned pleadingly as I suffocated from the hug, luckily for me, Daddy finally let go.

"My little girl is already becoming a woman, I'm so happy!" Dad shouted loudly not caring that there were still people around us, I felt my cheeks heat up slightly.

" Daddyyyyy !" I moaned embarrassedly.

"Oh my dear little sister graduated from Signal, I'm so happy!" This time I was grabbed and hugged by Yang, with the same strength as dad.

"Y- yaaang !!!" I exclaimed in surprise as I once again lost my ability to breathe.

"Just leave her alone." Out of the corner of my eye I saw Aunt Raven hit Yang on the head, Yang finally let go of me.

"I'm sorry Rubes" Yang laughed cheerfully not even looking the least bit apologetic, Aunt Raven rolled her eyes before looking at me and smiling lightly, so lightly that only the corners of her lips were raised, but I knew Aunt Raven and her expressionless face, it was practically a grin from ear to ear!

"Congratulations Ruby, well done" Aunt Raven said firmly, my smile growing bigger.

"Thanks Aunt Raven!" I thanked happily, before seeing a white missile out of the corner of my eye. I didn't have the chance to react before it engulfed me. The missile transformed into Mom, hugged me, and spun me around quickly.

" Rubyyyyy !!!!!" Mom exclaimed happily.

"Down! Down! "Down! " I exclaimed quickly, feeling myself starting to feel dizzy.

"Summer!" Aunt Raven's scream made Mom finally let go of me, the world was still spinning, I suppressed the bile that tried to rise in my throat, Mom ignored my dizziness and hugged me once more, this time more gently.

"I'm so proud Ruby, congratulations!" I whispered to my hatred, I could feel my smile grow wider before mom pulled away from me.

"Heya, Rubes, congratulations." I stopped and turned around immediately.

"SOUL!" I exclaimed happily, Soul was here! In Patch!

"RUBY!" He yelled back at me and opened his arms. I immediately understood what he meant and I immediately imitated him .

"SOOOUUULL!!!" I exclaimed happily as I began to run in slow motion.

"RRRUUUBYYYYY!!" he imitated me in my slow motion run.

"SOOOOUUUUULLLLLL!!!"

"RRRRRRUUUUUBBYYYYYY!!!!"

We met halfway down the road and hugged each other. We lasted a few seconds before bursting into laughter, holding each other.

"Soul! I didn't know you were going to be in Patch! " I said happily, with a huge smile.

"Aunt Raven picked me up with her quirk!" Soul said with his pointy-toothed grin, I turned to Aunt Raven, she shrugged.

"I knew you wanted Soul on this day, it wouldn't cost me anything. I left Vernal in Shibusen, Soul has to come back tomorrow." Raven explained simply.

"Thanks Aunt Raven!!" I exclaimed happily in her direction, she simply nodded.

"Alright everyone! Let's go home, it's party time!! " Summer exclaimed as she raised a fist in the air, only Yang, Soul and I imitated her.

Best day in the world.

We had a little party between the 7 of us, Mom, Dad, Uncle Qrow, Aunt Raven, Yang, Soul and I, it was awesome, just like old times.

Now, they were almost never present at home at the same time, Dad was a full-time teacher at Signal, Mom was a freelance S-rank hunter so she moved around a lot, Aunt Raven and Uncle Qrow ran the Branwen Hunters Guild. Tribe .

Yang was the daughter of Aunt Raven and Dad, Taiyang, she was the oldest and had just finished her second year at Beacon, about to start her third year. Soul was a year younger, son of Uncle Qrow and Mom, Summer, in a few weeks he would finish his first year at Shibusen. While I, being the youngest, had just finished Signal Academy, about to join Beacon.

Having them all present at my graduation was a blessing, so I was happy, so much so that I had a hard time falling asleep so I stood up and left my room.

The cabin we lived in was large, each of us kids had our own room, so I quietly walked out of mine only to find Mom tiptoeing down the hall.

We both stared at each other for a few seconds before breaking into identical giggles.

"Can't you sleep?" Mom asked in a whisper, I shook my head.

"I'm so excited, I'm going to Beacon soon, I'm going to be a hunter" I murmured happily, almost bouncing in place, Mom chuckled while ruffling my hair.

"Come on, let's go get some warm milk, as excited as you are, you need to get some sleep." Mom motioned for me to follow her silently down the hall, I nodded excitedly and began to imitate her, she smirked at me but didn't stop, we both stopped stiffly when we heard a voice.

"I already told you no Weiss, she's my sister" we both heard Yang's moan through her door and we stayed silent "yeah, I know she's a pain and I'm not really expecting her to follow me everywhere, but I have no choice" w-what?

"Ruby, let's go down." Mom's voice was unusually firm, but I couldn't move, I was rooted to the spot.

"I'll just have to put up with her being a nuisance for a few weeks, I promise, then we can date again - "

I couldn't hear the rest, mom had grabbed me and easily lifted me up before taking me to the kitchen, we both stayed silent without saying anything.

"W-well! I-I guess Yang just wants more time with her girlfriends! "I-it's normal! " I said happily, though I could feel my smile trembling.

"Oh Ruby, are you okay?" Mom asked, I continued to smile at her.

"Of course ! It 's normal! We are already adults! I can't just follow Yang around all the time! I'm not a child anymore! "Why do you ask? " I said quickly, Mom gave me a hurt look.

"Ruby, honey, you're crying," Mom said softly.

"Huh?" I asked awkwardly as I touched my cheeks, I looked foolishly at my hands as I felt moisture on my fingers, ah, yes I was crying, I finally couldn't hold it back and let out a moan of pain.

" Y -I...did I do something wrong?" I asked shakily, Mom's look of pain was terrible but she quickly shook her head.

"No, Ruby, of course not." Mom walked over and started wiping the tears from my eyes, which was a futile task since I couldn't get them to stop in the first place. "You know, siblings sometimes say mean things, look at Raven and Qrow, sometimes they seem like they hate each other, but they really love each other very much."

" And I guess," I whimpered, how pathetic, almost 18 and still crying like a little girl while Mom tried to comfort me.

"Tomorrow... tomorrow we can talk to Yang, I'm sure-"

"No!" I interrupted Mom loudly, before closing my mouth. Both Mom and I fell silent, we let out a sigh when we didn't hear any noise from waking someone up in the middle of the night. "I... it's not necessary," I added almost in a whisper. Mom seemed to be hesitant. I shook my head as I wiped my tears away. "I... I guess I really have to stop following Yang and... maybe I can make friends at Beacon," I said with a shaky smile.

"Of course Ruby, I'm sure you'll get along with the rest of your team, they'd be fools not to" Mom promised, my smile becoming more genuine.

"Well, then I guess I'll have to find a way to… stay away from Yang," Mom grimaced before pausing slightly.

"Tell me Rubes, you always wanted to be a heroine, right?" Mom asked, a smile beginning to appear on her face.

"Of course! That's why I'll become a hunter, to help others! " I said firmly. I may be sad, but my convictions won't waver.

"What if I told you that you could be a heroine?" Mom asked with a mysterious smile, my eyes widened.

"What? How? " I asked stupidly.

"Well, in a couple of months, I have a long-term mission scheduled with the Japanese government, some hunters will come to Vale and we will do some work around the continent, we have a somewhat long investigation to do, I won't bore you with the details." Mom waved her hand dismissing the mission "the point is what, the second part, in a few months, I will have to go to Japan to continue and finish the investigation, for weeks, maybe months, and the dates fall exactly during the entrance exam, so tell me, do you want to accompany me to enter UA? " Mom asked with a mischievous smile, my mind completely stopped.

UA.

UA University, one of the most famous universities for heroes and hunters in the world, took students from all over the world, I could be accepted if I could pass the exam.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!!" I squealed happily while Mom smiled at me contentedly.

"Well, unfortunately, the UA exam is at the end of February, and there are about 8 months left until that, you will have to prepare, there will be a lot of competition, you also have to learn Japanese." Mom said, she also seemed just as excited.

"I can do it!" I said firmly, mom nodded, tomorrow we will discuss everything in details, for now, go rest" mom said with a smile before hugging me "good night Rubes" mom said softly, I smiled widely at her before my smile fell.

"Mom…" Mom looked at me curiously "Don't… get mad or hate Yang for what she said… I… I'm okay… I'll be okay" I smiled softly at her, Mom gave me a sad smile before letting out a laugh.

"I could never hate Yang, Rubes, she's my daughter as much as you, she's done worse stupid things than... what I just said, I'm just... disappointed yes, but I don't hate her, so don't worry, everything will be okay" Mom said reassuringly, I sighed in relief.

"Okay, okay, okay," I sighed in relief, "I… I want to talk to her, maybe not now, but someday I will." Mom opened her eyes wide before smiling and nodding.

"Of course Ruby, it doesn't have to be now, whenever you're ready" Mom said calmly "Now, go get some sleep, we'll have a long day tomorrow breaking the news to the rest of the family, be prepared for your father not to let go of you all day." Mom pushed me with her shoulder, I moaned loudly while blushing.
