Volume 3 Chapter 25
25. I Disagree
Xia Yi felt she had gone to the wrong examination room.
This didn’t seem like the exam venue for the Magic Department, but clearly for the Swordsmanship Department!
On the stage, two people were competing in swordsmanship, entering a white-hot phase.
One side appeared very relaxed, while the other seemed a bit overwhelmed.
“It’s over! Kneel before my superior swordsmanship, Anthony!”
After a few flashes of sword light, the outcome was decided.
“The winner is Anthony Wilson!”
The teacher serving as the referee announced.
The youth named Anthony also bowed in thanks to everyone.
“With this, I’ve already secured my admission. Thank you all for going easy on me.”
“Next, Xia Yi · Lawrence!” The Laurel Academy exam proctor called out.
Everyone’s eyes gathered on Xia Yi.
Xia Yi walked up and explained, “Teacher, there seems to be a problem. I applied for the Magic Department, but this is the venue for the Swordsmanship Department, right?”
“Is that so?” The proctor was a bit surprised. “If that’s really the case, then your name shouldn’t be on my list. Could there have been a mistake somewhere?”
“Possibly.”
“Wait a moment. Let me confirm.”
The proctor went to verify.
Anthony stood at the center of the exam venue, like the protagonist, a confident expression on his face.
Everyone else looked dejected.
Because according to this exam, all the participants would compete against each other, and then based on their performance and talent, they would be given a comprehensive score. In the end, admission would be determined by the scores.
And now, Anthony had an undefeated record, far outperforming the others. He had already secured a spot, even if he lost the final match.
Unintentionally, Xia Yi glanced at Anthony.
When Anthony noticed Xia Yi’s gaze, he showed a smile and solemnly performed a noble gentleman’s bow, directly stunning Xia Yi. Was that really necessary?
“Tsk, what a show-off!”
“So annoying, but there’s nothing we can do about it!”
The other participants were very irritated but helpless.
After a while, the proctor returned.
“Xia Yi, we’ve confirmed that the subject you applied for is the Swordsmanship Department.”
“That can’t be right?”
“See for yourself.”
The proctor handed over the form Xia Yi had filled out. It indeed stated the Swordsmanship Department, not the Magic Department, and the examination method was through actual combat.
Actual combat wasn’t the only standard for entering Laurel Academy. She had heard of other assessment methods.
There were also some students who weren’t good at actual combat, such as alchemists, scholars, or bards… They definitely couldn’t be judged through actual combat. Laurel Academy’s student assessments were diverse.
But as long as actual combat was specified for the subject, it meant admission to Laurel Academy would be determined through actual combat assessment.
Xia Yi’s form indicated actual combat for the Swordsmanship Department, competing with others for admission.
Only now did she understand why Norma had offered to polish it up for her earlier.
Well, well! I knew Norma couldn’t have become so obedient!
I’m going to find Keith later and have him deduct all her allowance, making her go work part-time!
“Since there’s no mistake, let’s hurry up. Time is tight. Choose a weapon and fight Anthony to complete the assessment,” urged the proctor.
“Proctor, there’s a problem with this form.” Xia Yi explained.
“You filled it out yourself, right? We strictly follow procedures. If you hadn’t requested it, we wouldn’t have assigned you to Examination Room No. 5.”
“This is… I filled it out wrong.”
“Filled it out wrong?” The proctor furrowed his brows.
Xia Yi felt a bit of a headache, not knowing how to explain. “Proctor, actually, I wanted to apply for the Magic Department, not the Swordsmanship Department.”
The proctor was still considering how to handle this matter.
At this time, Anthony walked over. “Teacher, please take a careful look. Miss Xia Yi couldn’t possibly know swordsmanship. Her height is really too awkward. Her original goal should have been to become a mage. Becoming a swordsman would be too difficult. She must have just filled out the form incorrectly.”
“Huh?”
When Xia Yi heard someone say her height was awkward, she instantly felt displeased.
So what if I’m short? What about it?!
Looking down on me?
“But…” The proctor was still hesitating.
But Anthony winked at Xia Yi, seemingly pleased with himself, wanting to play the gentleman and help Xia Yi out of her predicament.
“Teacher, studying magic would be more suitable for Miss Xia Yi. She should have talent in that area… In swordsmanship, she might waste a lot of time. After all, everyone has some areas… that they’re not suited for. Don’t you think I’m right? Miss Xia Yi, if you really enter the Swordsmanship Department, you’ll waste a lot of time on this. It’s meaningless.” Anthony showed a smile to Xia Yi.
“…” Xia Yi remained silent.
“Alright, I’ll give you another form later. Fill it out again, and don’t make a mistake.”
The proctor was about to take Xia Yi and leave.
But Xia Yi’s eyes changed.
“Young Master Anthony, if I remember correctly, you still have one last actual combat assessment, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. For the next match, whether I win or lose, I’ll be able to enter Laurel Academy. Miss Xia Yi doesn’t need to worry about that.”
“I see. Then I don’t need to hold back.”
Xia Yi walked to the side of the arena, took out a weapon, and stepped onto the stage.
“Miss Xia Yi, what are you doing?”
“What a coincidence. I just became a little bit interested. Since I’m already here, my hands are a bit itchy,” Xia Yi explained. “In terms of swordsmanship, I’m just an amateur enthusiast. It’s not like Young Master Anthony said, that I’m completely clueless.”
take it too seriously.”Is that so?” Anthony found it interesting. “Miss Xia Yi, let me remind you that your way of holding the sword is problematic.”
“Oh.”
Xia Yi originally held the sword in her left hand, her posture a bit awkward. She didn’t want to take it too seriously.
But since the other party pointed it out, she switched to her right hand.
This action was seen by everyone. They all felt Xia Yi was being unnecessary, just feeling that her self-esteem was a bit too strong, a bit too concerned about saving face.
“Then, shall we begin?” Xia Yi asked.
“As a gentleman, I’ll let Miss Xia Yi attack first.” Anthony made an inviting gesture.
As a gentleman, he planned to play along with Xia Yi, give her some face, and not take it too seriously.
Xia Yi didn’t say much and picked up a katana.
She specifically chose this weapon to achieve a certain effect.
The black-haired loli closed her eyes, recalling the battle scene between her and that stinky Pinky before…
Iai · Cherry Blossom Flash!
Clang!
No one saw Xia Yi’s movements clearly. They only heard a ringing sound, and Anthony’s weapon flew out.
Before Anthony could understand what had happened, the katana slashed towards his face. He instinctively wanted to defend, but found that he had lost his weapon. His heart turned cold.
In the end, the katana stopped an inch from his face.
“I concede. You win, Young Master Anthony.” Xia Yi smiled and lowered her weapon.
Instantly, the venue fell silent. No one had expected such a development.
Was this the victory of an amateur enthusiast?
“Alright, Teacher, take me to fill out the form again. My original goal was to enter the Magic Department and become a mage.”
Ignoring everyone’s astonished gazes, Xia Yi stepped down from the stage.
“I’m just an amateur enthusiast of swordsmanship now. Becoming a powerful mage is my main goal at present.”
This left the proctor at a loss, but since Xia Yi voluntarily gave up, he had no choice. As an ordinary teacher, he still had to follow procedures.
Just as the proctor and Xia Yi were about to leave, a familiar voice rang out.
“Wait, I disagree.”
Hill appeared from somewhere, blocking Xia Yi’s path.
