IRON MAN: BROTHER DON'T CAUSE TROUBLE

Chapter 35: 35. The War Begins

Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S Facility - New Mexico

The helicopter touched down amidst the dust and heat of the desert. Agent Phil Coulson, standing tall in his sharp suit and dark shades, watched its descent with a composed expression. As the rotors slowed, Agent Maria Hill stepped out, her face set with determination, followed closely by Director Nick Fury, whose sharp gaze scanned the surroundings.

Nick Fury turned to Phil Coulson, asking, "What's the situation?"

Phil Coulson maintained his calm demeanor as he explained, "That's just it, sir. We're not sure."

Coulson began leading them through the facility, the air tense with urgency. The radiation section was a flurry of activity as technicians packed equipment.

Coulson looked concerned as he continued, "Dr. Selvig detected an energy surge from the Tesseract about four hours ago."

Nick Fury furrowed his brows and said, "NASA didn't approve Selvig for any testing."

Coulson shook his head slightly, clarifying, "He wasn't running any tests, sir. The event happened spontaneously."

Maria Hill raised an eyebrow and asked incredulously, "Are you saying it activated itself?"

Fury's expression grew serious as he questioned, "What are the energy levels now?"

Coulson's tone turned grave as he replied, "They're climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, we ordered the evacuation."

Fury's eyes narrowed as he pressed, "How much time do we have?"

Coulson checked his watch and stated firmly, "About thirty minutes."

Fury's voice was stern as he commanded, "Make it faster."

Coulson nodded with determination and hurried off. Fury and Hill continued their brisk pace through the facility.

Maria Hill looked concerned as she remarked, "Sir, evacuating might not be enough."

Fury glanced at her, his expression serious, and asked, "Should we tell everyone to relax and take a nap?"

Hill's face was set as she responded, "If the Tesseract's energy becomes unstable, there might not be a safe distance."

Fury's gaze hardened as he ordered, "Make sure the Phase 2 prototypes are out of here."

Hill looked puzzled and questioned, "Is that really a priority right now?"

Fury's tone was unwavering as he answered, "Until the world stops spinning, we prepare like it's going to keep going. Get everything loaded and out."

Hill nodded in understanding, then turned to nearby agents and instructed, "You two, with me."

Fury walked into a partially deserted lab, where scientists were hastily packing. Dr. Erik Selvig appeared, his face lined with tension.

Fury's voice was calm but probing as he addressed Selvig, "Doctor, give me an update."

Erik Selvig looked serious as he greeted, "Director."

Selvig approached, his concern evident.

Fury's expression was steady as he asked, "What do we know for sure?"

Selvig shook his head slightly, his tone grave, "The Tesseract is behaving erratically."

Fury frowned and asked, "Is that supposed to be a joke?"

Selvig's face remained serious as he replied, "No joke, sir. The Tesseract isn't just active—it's unpredictable."

Fury leaned in slightly, his voice steady, "Did you try shutting it down?"

Selvig led them to a console, typing rapidly.

Selvig explained, "It's an energy source. Cutting the power only makes it reactivate. If it hits peak output…"

Fury interrupted, his gaze firm, "We've prepared for this, harnessing energy."

Selvig looked up, concern in his eyes, "We're not ready. Our calculations are incomplete. It's emitting interference and gamma radiation."

Fury crossed his arms and responded dryly, "Gamma radiation is dangerous. Where's Barton?"

Selvig managed a small, tired smile, "Up in his usual spot—keeping an eye on things."

High above, Agent Clint Barton observed, his expression calm yet alert. Fury called out to him through the earpiece.

Fury's tone was direct as he inquired, "Barton, report."

Barton rappelled down, landing smoothly and walking over with a steady gaze.

Fury looked at Barton and said, "I put you here to keep an eye on things."

Barton's lips curved into a small smirk as he replied, "I get a better view from up high."

They continued toward the Tesseract chamber, tension thick in the air.

Fury's voice was serious as he asked, "Any signs of what caused this?"

A nearby technician called out urgently, "Doctor, the readings are spiking again!"

Selvig rushed to the console, his focus intense. Barton remained vigilant, scanning the area.

Barton's tone was calm as he observed, "No movement in or out. Selvig checks out—no contact, no messages. If someone tampered with it, it wasn't from this end."

Fury frowned, puzzled, and asked, "This end?"

Barton nodded slightly, explaining, "The Tesseract—it's a gateway to space. Doors open both ways."

Suddenly, the Tesseract emitted a powerful surge, shaking the entire facility. A vortex formed, and Loki stepped through, his smirk exuding confidence.

After a brief showdown, Loki succeeded in taking the Tesseract with him while Fury, Maria, and Coulson escaped the destroyed facility.

Fury's voice was grave as he commanded, "Sound the general call. I want every living soul not working rescue looking for that briefcase."

Maria Hill nodded, "Roger that."

Turning to Coulson, Fury said, "Coulson, get back to base. This is a Level Seven. As of right now, we are at war."

Phil Coulson asked with worry, "What do we do?"

Nick Fury looked up, a thought on his mind. "The Avengers."

New York

It had been two months since John broke through to the 4th stage Star Wizard. At this moment, John, Tony, and Pepper were gathered in Stark Tower for a celebration.

Tony Stark, in his Iron Man suit, was cutting a pipeline transport with a laser cutter from his hand while protected by a water bubble in the ocean. Creating this air bubble was easy for Tony, who had already become a 3rd stage Star Wizard. He then placed a Stark Energy Core, which lit up. Tony flew out of the water and headed towards Stark Tower.

"I'm good on this end. The rest is up to you," Tony said.

Pepper, on the other line, asked, "You disconnected the transition lines? Are we off the grid?"

John added from the side, "Stark Tower is about to become a beacon of self-sustaining clean energy."

"Wow. So maybe our reactor takes over, and it actually works."

"I assume. Light her up," Tony said while he flew to Stark Tower, and the power was switched on, lighting up the Stark sign.

"How does it look?" Pepper asked, a little excited.

Tony, smiling, replied, "Like Christmas, but with more... me."

"Okay, stop, both of you, or I'll throw up," John interrupted their lovey-dovey conversation.

"You're just jealous," Tony curled his lips.

As they were busy with their celebration, Jarvis suddenly interrupted them.

"Sir, Nick Fury of SHIELD is on the line."

"I'm not in. I'm actually out," Tony said, trying to make an excuse.

"Sir, I'm afraid he's insisting."

John, surprised, quickly responded, "Alright, let him in." Tony shot him a look but said nothing.

The elevator door opened, and Nick Fury appeared.

"Seriously, Tony."

Tony turned away, replying, "Oh, come on in. You came late. We were just about to start without you."

Fury shook his head and turned to John. After scrutinizing him for a moment, he looked back at Tony.

"Sorry, but it's not a good time for celebration, Tony. You might want to take a look at this." Fury handed a file to Tony.

"The Avengers Initiative was scrapped, I thought. And I didn't even qualify," Tony said in a mocking tone.

"I didn't know that," Pepper was surprised.

"Yeah, apparently I'm volatile, self-obsessed, don't play well with others."

"I did know that."

John, observing Fury's gaze, thought to himself, He definitely suspects something about me, but it doesn't matter. It'll be clear soon enough.

"This isn't about personality profiles anymore," Fury said, getting into the main topic.

John took the file, uploaded its contents into the database, and projected the information holographically. Images of Captain America in action, the Hulk roaring at Culver University, Thor battling the Destroyer in New Mexico, and a figure in black armor fighting Whiplash appeared.

Tony and Pepper stared in awe as John examined the holographic Tesseract.

Fury approached John, noting his interest in the Tesseract. "This is the Tesseract, which was taken by the enemy. With both of your intellects, we should be able to locate it."

John didn't respond immediately, studying the file closely. Tony interjected, "As a consultant, I'm willing to help, but why say 'both'? My brother isn't interested."

Fury didn't turn around. "Oh... is that so?"

"Alright, I have to get another guy, so I'll be going now. Be on time."

As Fury left, John remained thoughtful. He knew Fury only suspected him and wasn't entirely sure. He wasn't about to confirm anything, either. The fewer people who knew, the better.

"Well, I'll be heading to D.C. tonight," Pepper said while getting ready.

"And I have a lot of homework to do," Tony said, sighing.

"pepper, I will tag along with you. I think Fury will need a friend on this," John suddenly said with a smile.

Surprised, Tony asked, "Who?"

"Bruce Banner, of course."
