Chapter 39: SPELLS!
After we left Wolf Skull Cave we made it back to Solitude. Viree went to bed immediately I stayed up to eat some food before bed. However it wasn't long until I entered the level up dreamscape.
I had instantly placed my attribute points into stamina. I nearly hit my carry weight limit so best to add a little more. Next to do was look at the things I unlocked. Apparently I got a skill tree, I looked for it and found it next to speechcraft.
The skill tree was called Espionage. Unlocks if one has sufficient sneak and speechcraft while preforming a task that disguising oneself, preforming an extreme political action or defending against an agent of espionage.
That was actually rather interesting. I looked at some of the perk points. The branches seemed to be somewhat similar to sneak and speechcraft however solely about the mix match ingredients that the two skill trees don't cover. The use of disguises and how convincing they are. It included interrogation efficiency and political sway. Some of the perk points seemed to be locked and I looked at them.
It seemed some required certain actions. A perk point called faction leader required on to be in a faction at a high position or the leader of a faction. Another perk point called Influential decadence required a certain level of reputation. It seems it also only worked if you are well known in that area. So if I acquire it the skill will fail in Riften as I had never been there.
The only other perk point that caught my attention was called Hostile Seduction. It required me to be female. It however was the opposite of the perk point Domestic Ally. Which required one to be male. Ultimately however I didn't like either skill.
The skill tree may come in handy however it wouldn't be put to use other than putting a few skill points into the disguise perks. I really wanted the perk Master of Faces. From what I could tell it allowed one to change their face freely. So it was useful to some degree. Ultimately I decided to put two points into the espionage skill tree to see if it gives a notable effect.
Next was the things I unlocked. Most of which were tied to the unique achievement I got. The first was Lich slayer. It gave me a 20% increased crit rate against undead. So that confirmed that yes undead are harder to crit than normal living creatures. Though Lich Slayer also gave 10% strength and 15% duration of all spells against undead. I guess that stacked with Necromage, which sadly I didn't have yet.
Second effect I had received was Potema's Master. At first I thought it was like the Summon Unique NPC spells you could get. However I had a spell called Summon Wolf Queen. Which summoned an astral projection of the wolf queen. That was the literal description for the Wolf Queen Spell. So I had to look for Potema's Master.
Eventually I found it in my active effects, but it was a head scratcher. The description simply read. You have captured the soul of Potema Septim in a necromantic ritual gone wrong. It really didn't explain much.
I also remembered that something happened to the Black Star. However I didn't have the ability to really check my inventory in the dreamscape. I sighed and made a mental note to investigate this. Likely alone preferably.
I cracked my hands, it was time to see if I could unlock a spell that I could power level with. I might as well try to convert Lich Slayer. I turned it into a spell and received Lich's bane. Expert restoration spell that deals 225 damage to undead creatures creating a fiery explosion that causes other undead to cower.
I tried Potema's master, but I just got a notification telling me I already have the associated spell. So I tried the inverse and convert Summon the Wolf Queen and got the same response. Sure enough those two couldn't be changed.
I could try to convert the Hearth effects again, but last time I tried I didn't have enough the dream mana. Though I had no clue how much of it I had or how much I could need. I rubbed my chin in thought.
I clicked grant frost resistance and Lich's bane to fuse together. I got the spell frost shock. Freezes a target solid, they must struggle to break free. So it was like Ice Form, but the spell was apprentice. So I could only assume it would take a bit to freeze someone.
I tried to fuse Summon the Wolf Queen, but it failed. So I tried diverging it instead. I gained the spell Summon Astral Phantom. A apprentice level spell, something a kin to summon flame atronach it seems. So i tried to fuse that with Libra, but it failed.
So I was getting a good idea of what I could do. I fused Soul trap and Oakflesh. I blinked when I received the spell Ebonyflesh. I couldn't really figure out why that combination did that. I tested something fusing Soul trap with Alert. I gained the spell Detect undead.
I already had the spell Detect which was better, but this gave me an idea how fusing Soul trap worked. I fused soul trap again but instead with Lock. Sure enough I got something I liked. The spell was an alteration spell. It was called Ghostly Hand. It gave Intangibility for 10 seconds.
I was getting an idea what Soul trap did if fused with things. I tried diverging it and received Soul extract. Which was the spell used to only partially soul trap people. I selected both Soul trap and Soul extract and converted them as they were both Novice spells. I got the passive effects Soul strength and Soul power.
Soul Strength prevented me from being Soul Trapped. So that was nice, meant I didn't have to worry about being doomed to the Soul Cairn. Soul power was however not much different. Soul power gave me freedom to walk the Soul Cairn without being drained.
I had a guess I didn't have much dream mana left. Though that was only a guess. I paused and remembered the spell tome that was on the Pedestal in Wolf Skull cave. I had forgot to learn it. I remembered its name as necromantic ritual. I wish I checked what it did. I sighed, and left the dreamscape.
