Chapter 532: The Principal's Offer (1)
During the last two days that led up to the present, William and his group continued through the floors of the Quake Dungeon, though their speed was considerably slower than before.
While Yuhe, William, Mikaela, Odessa, and the Second-Year students had the strength to fight several Quake Slimes at once, the rest weren't as powerful. When large waves of Quake Slimes attacked them on the Thirteenth Floor, William had to step in and wipe them out several times.
During their rest periods, William stuck to his word and helped Yuhe recover her storage orbs, refilling the remaining seven Domain orbs by the end of the two days. All that was left was to fill the orb containing Yuhe's Primary Law of Water, then their agreement would be completed.
The Array Artifact couldn't be replaced by simply funneling Mana, so Yuhe didn't ask for help with that. William was happy knowing that he would soon be able to refine more of his Mana Circuits.
Halfway through the thirteenth floor, William was forced to check out the situation on both Efretta and Reius, when two Cultivators tried to Ascend at nearly the same time. It was impossible for William to host two Tribulations at the same time, so he planned to shift his Mana back and forth from one World to the other, while keeping his senses trained on both in case of an incident.
When he saw that Fria was the one trying to Ascend, and that she was Ascending from the same location that he had, William smiled. He was wondering when she'd try to Ascend, but it seemed that his sister had intentionally delayed her progress on Efretta so her body on Reius could catch up.
William called upon his Mana to form the Tribulation, but his refined Mana Circuits made him miscalculate and he accidentally used too much power. The strength of the Tribulation rose into the Ascension Realm easily, and William's group of friends down below turned pale with fear.
"Will! Maybe tone down the Tribulation a bit!"
William looked down at his sister with a raised eyebrow. It seemed Fria had guessed that he was the leader of both Reius and Efretta, though he didn't expect anything less. She was a talented girl, with absurd strength despite having a mere fragment of the System's power.
Hehe, should I mess with her? William answered his own question before the System could give its input.
He reduced the size of the Tribulation to about twenty percent of what it was before, then funneled twice as much power and changed the color of the sky to red. It was his imperfect representation of the Ultimate Tribulation, which triggered alarms across his entire World.
The situation became a little more unstable than William expected, so he dispersed the extra Mana into the environment before war broke out within the Cultivation World. Several Magical Beasts benefited from William's move, but he trusted that the Players could handle a few in the Ascension Realm.
He completed Fria's Tribulation on Reius first, since she was physically present to take it on, then focused the remainder of the Mana on the second Tribulation. Both went quite smoothly, though his friends suffered several serious injuries.
It was to be expected, though, and William was glad they survived an Ascension Tribulation at their weak Cultivation levels — he felt more confident in their futures, where they'd be the ones personally making the attempt a few years from now.
When Fria's Tribulations were over, there was no reason for William to stay in either of his Worlds. Spending too much time in either would slowly damage the World, and as he became stronger, he realized that descending into the World personally was no longer possible.
Even with the power of the Seal Element, William knew that he'd shatter the weak fabric of the Mortal Realms with his mere presence. Increasing the amount of Seal Mana was simply counterproductive at a certain point.
William returned his attention to the students, continuing forward through the Quake Dungeon while training some of the weaker members to better use their Magic.
The Fourteenth Floor was the absolute limit for most of the First-Year students, and any further would be suicide even with their defensive Artifacts. It was at this point that William decided to open a portal and send the others back to the First Floor.
Class at Filem would be starting in about twelve hours, so William did the others a favor and opened a series of portals that led everyone back to the Academy, saving those without the Space Element a lot of time and Mana.
To the Second-Year students that had no reason to leave, William asked them to invite anyone they saw fit for next time. If everything went well, he revealed that he planned to reach the top floor of the Quake Dungeon by the end of the year.
Professor Tenningbrew's class went over refining Mana Circuits again. William was ahead of the rest of the group, so there wasn't much for him to listen to this time. He simply counted out the various Mana Points and Veins across his body, this time using recently stored memories from within the Quake Dungeon.
Since the memory was more recent, William had an easier time remembering the finer details related to his Mana Circuits. He counted another twelve Greater Mana Points in his left hand, twelve in each of his feet, and eighteen on his face.
Each leg had a hundred and twenty Greater Mana Points, and his arms had half as many, sixty each. Across his torso and back were another two hundred and forty Greater Mana Points, while several other unique locations had a combined total of twenty-four.
Overall, including the Greater Mana Points in William's right hand, he had 690 Greater Mana Points. This didn't include the several thousand Mana Points that were smaller than this, though he had no intentions to refine them until after the Greater Points were completed.
This is going to take me almost an entire year! William realized when he tried to do the math. If each Greater Mana Point was equivalent to a quarter of his total Mana Reserve, and he could recover the same amount of Mana in around six hours, William could only refine a maximum of four Greater Mana Points per day!
Assuming that William wouldn't have the Mana Gathering Staff in hand at all times, he added a hundred hours or so to the expected Mana Regeneration.
A year seemed like way too long to be refining Mana Circuits, but William was thankful that most of the work was done passively. He'd only need to spend about half an hour of his time each day on actual Mana Circuit refinement.

Along with checking his Mana Points, William also reviewed the paths of his Mana Veins. There were a few areas where the Mana Veins stopped short, such as in his feet, but there were so many loops and knots in the Veins that William had enough to stretch it out some.
When he looked at how disorganized his Mana Veins were, William wondered how he could cast Magic in the first place. The Mana that entered his Veins from his feet was extremely small, barely one percent efficient.
William spent the entire class straightening out all of his Mana Veins, nearly finishing the project before the end of the period. When he tried manipulating Mana from either his right or left hand, William found that the Mana was incredibly swift and now flowed like a raging current.
When the floodgates were open, William could cast any Spell he wanted instantly, and the formation of his Domains would be several times faster than before. If there previously was a Cultivator in the Ascension Realm that could compare to him before, their chances of winning a fight now were almost zero.
After class, William decided that he wanted to speed things up a little. He didn't know what to expect from the Quake Dungeon's higher floors, but a year was way too much time in his opinion. He wanted to clear it as soon as possible.
The easiest answer to William's problem laid in the Vice Principal's office, so he stopped by there first. For some reason, Professor Tenningbrew came along, but William didn't ask questions. In his opinion, since the Vice Principal and his professor both knew the same secret, they could be considered semi-safe.
Kenny opened the door in response to William's knock. Kenny raised an eyebrow, surprised that the visitor wasn't a ferret man in a lab coat, rather said ferret man's student.
"What brings you to my office, William? Have you decided to visit the Realm of Fire so soon?" he asked.
William shook his head, "There are a few things I need to do before then, but I'll go there within the next year, hopefully."
"Hm. I'd rather you went there sooner rather than later, especially because of the Cultivator's Competition. You were going to enter, right? If you spend too much time in the Realm of Fire, you might miss it."
William nodded, "I know, but I can always go there after the Competition, right?"
