Chapter 11: The liang family

Lu Fang walked along the quiet road, Mei Lin and Li Lan following close behind. The sun was sinking low, painting the sky in shades of orange and red. Ahead of them, the tall steel walls of the shelter rose into view, promising safety—or so they hoped.

"That must be the shelter," Li Mei said, pointing.

Li Lan nodded. "Finally, a place to rest." she murmured.

But as they came closer, the noise from the crowd outside the gates reached their ears. Shouting and crying filled the air, growing louder with each step.

When they arrived, they saw hundreds of refugees pressed against the walls, their faces desperate.

"Please, my son is sick!" a woman cried, clutching a small child.

"We just need food and water!" a man shouted.

Above them, soldiers stood on the wall, rifles slung over their shoulders. One of them spoke through a megaphone, his voice cold and commanding.

"Move along! This shelter is full. Go to another one!"

The crowd erupted in anger, their voices rising in protest.

"They're lying!" someone shouted.

The voice came from a man standing on a rock in the middle of the crowd. He looked tired and worn, but his voice was strong.

"This shelter isn't full!" he yelled. "Look at it! More than half of it is empty! They're keeping us out because this place is controlled by the Liang family!"

The crowd fell silent, turning to listen.

"The Liang family doesn't care about us!" the man continued. "They only care about their own people. The leader here is just their puppet!"

Li Mei hand tightened on Lu Fang's arm. "The Liang family… They're infamous for their cruelty," she whispered.

Li Lan's gaze darkened. "So they're the ones deciding who gets to live or die now?"

Before the man could say more, a loud crack rang out. The man cried out, clutching his shoulder as he stumbled back.

"Enough," a cold voice said.

The crowd turned as a young man stepped forward, escorted by guards. He wore a spotless military uniform and carried himself with an air of arrogance.

"That's Liang Zhen," Li Mei whispered, her voice trembling. "The youngest son of the Liang family…"

Liang Zhen smirked, lowering the pistol he had just fired. "You people should be grateful we're even letting you stand here. This isn't a charity. If you don't leave, we'll make you stay here forever."

The crowd shrank back, fear in their eyes.

"You can't do this!" a woman shouted.

Liang Zhen's smirk widened. "Oh, I can." He turned to the guards. "Drive them away. If they resist, kill them."

One of the guards hesitated. "But sir, they're our citizens—"

"Do you want to join them outside the gates?" Liang Zhen snapped.

The guard looked down, saying nothing.

Li Lan's fists clenched. "This is wrong. We can't let this happen."

Li Mei grabbed her arm. "Lan, don't. We can't fight them."

But it was Lu Fang who moved first. Without a word, he stepped forward.

In one swift motion, he jumped over the wall, landing in front of Liang Zhen. The soldiers shouted in alarm, raising their rifles, but Lu Fang was too quick. He grabbed Liang Zhen by the collar and lifted him in tge air with one hand.

"What are you doing?!" Liang Zhen said, his arrogance replaced by fear.

"Making you listen," Lu Fang growled, his voice low and dangerous.

The guards froze, unsure of what to do.

"Let him go!" the shelter leader, Captain Zhang, shouted as he stepped forward.

Lu Fang held Liang Zhen tightly, using him as a shield. "Drop your weapons," he ordered, his tone calm but firm.

The soldiers hesitated, glancing at each other.

"Stand down!" Captain Zhang barked, though his voice wavered.

The crowd watched in stunned silence, hope flickering in their eyes.

"If we fire, we might hit the young master," one guard whispered.

Captain Zhang's face darkened. He turned to Liang Zhen, who was trembling in Lu Fang's grip.

"Put down your weapons," Zhang finally ordered.

The soldiers throwed their rifles on the ground, their faces tense.

Lu Fang looked at the captain, his voice steady. "Now open the gates and let these people in. Or do I need to show you what happens when someone fights back?"

The captain's jaw tightened, but he nodded reluctantly. "Open the gates."

The refugees surged forward, their cries of relief drowning out the tension. Lu Fang released Liang Zhen, shoving him backward.

"This isn't over," Liang Zhen hissed, glaring at Lu Fang.

"Then we'll see each other again so now get out of this shelter you and you lackeys," Lu Fang replied coldly.

As the gates opened and the refugees entered and liang zhen with his lackeys got out humiliated.

Mei Lin and Li Lan ran to Lu Fang's side.

"You're crazy," Li Lin said, her voice shaking.

Li Mei smiled faintly. "But it worked."

Lu Fang didn't respond. His eyes stayed on the on liang zhen, his mind already calculating what to do next .
