I'm Not Interested in Devil Fruits

''Chapter Intro: When You Awaken''

On South Blue's Baterilla Island, Garp walked away, holding a baby boy in his arms. Nearby, in an estate on the island, a gravestone stood with a photo of a woman with light pink hair. In front of it, a woman with long purple hair stood quietly, shedding tears.

Kuma raised his other paw, but the dark figure's hand went right through it and in one swift movement, it aimed directly at Kuma's chest, at his heart!

"..."

Kuma looked down in silence. B.I.B.'s blue flame-marked left hand easily penetrated Kuma's chest, but was blocked by a layer of black haki, preventing it from reaching his heart.

"So close!" Liam grinned. "Almost had it."

Kuma asked in a soft tone, "Is this shadow your true power?"

Liam replied, "Why don't you guess?"

Kuma smiled. "I guess... I'll know when I test it."

With that, the black haki covering Kuma's hands disappeared and he activated his Paw-Paw Fruit ability, creating a powerful atmospheric shockwave that erupted around them.

Boom!

The massive shockwave expanded into a giant three-dimensional bear paw, bursting outward and creating a fierce gale.

Using her Flower-Flower Fruit (Hana Hana no Mi), Robin created a series of arms and took cover behind a large tree. She wasn't worried about Liam. 

This shockwave attack was clearly the result of Kuma's fruit powers and most likely didn't contain Haki. With no Haki, Liam was able to avoid any damage by using his Gasu Gasu no Mi (Gas Gas Fruit) ability to turn his body into gas.

As expected...

When the shockwave subsided, a huge bear paw print covered the ground where the previous prints had been. The entire area seemed to have sunk several centimeters, and the trees around the area splintered and toppled outward.

Standing in the midst of the dust, the towering six to seven-meter-tall Kuma looked up as two dense clouds - one white and one black - descended from above and transformed into two figures: one a young man with black hair and the other a dark-armored figure with glowing eyes. 

Both reached for Kuma's fluffy bear-eared hat in unison.

"…"

Without looking back, Kuma raised his hands and grabbed the two figures, trying to throw them to the ground. But halfway through, Liam and B.I.B. turned solid, stepped on the air and jumped over Kuma's head, flying over a hundred meters in an instant.

"Clink...

The black armor disintegrated piece by piece, covering Liam's body.

"..."

Kuma looked up to see the black figure silhouetted against the sun, slowing as if suspended in mid-air.

Robin shaded her eyes and used her powers to create petals in the sky, forming an eye to watch closely. 

Before the eye could fall, it caught Liam, who clenched his right fist, twisted his body, and kicked into the air with all his might, using Geppo to hurl himself downward at high speed.

"Tekkai!" Liam shouted, his clenched fist seeming to glitter with a metallic sheen.

Snap!" He kicked out of the air once more, accelerating.

"..." Kuma crossed his palms.

"Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki)!"

The flame-like patterns on Liam's armored fist darkened with black haki as it plummeted, delivering a powerful blow right into Kuma's crossed hands.

Bang!

The giant paw print beneath Kuma's feet sank further, creating a series of concentric indentations.

'Whoosh...'

As the dust settled, Kuma swayed slightly and fell back, sitting down with a thud. His palms tingling, momentarily numb...

Flexing his hands, Kuma was taken aback, silently amazed at how quickly this young man's strength had advanced - far beyond what Dragon had described.

"Haha, I finally got you down!" 

Kuma turned to see Liam lying on the ground, laughing heartily, too tired to move but feeling completely satisfied.

After a while, Liam asked, "How did you know to protect your heart? Did your Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) sense the danger?"

Unlike his fight with Laffitte before, Liam didn't have any killing intent this time. And, unlike his attempt to take Aokiji's Ice-Ice Fruit, he hadn't planned to actually steal Kuma's Paw-Paw Fruit either. 

So even if Kuma's Observation Haki was sharp, it didn't quite make sense for him to anticipate such a high level of danger from B.I.B.'s hand reaching toward his chest.

To answer Liam, Kuma explained, "Someone I encountered once told me that a Devil Fruit's power lies deep within the blood… and the heart is at the core of blood circulation. So, knowing you're rumored to have the ability to take Devil Fruit powers, I naturally made the connection."

"Ah, I see!" Liam said in realization.

Devil Fruits were linked to Lineage Factors, and the heart was the body's blood pump… So, his Stand ability extracted Devil Fruit powers from the heart of an Ability user. But…

How could B.I.B. perfectly separate the Devil Fruit factor from an Ability user's Lineage Factor without harming the user?

"Are you alright?" Robin approached, crouching down to check on Liam.

Just then, Hancock's surprised voice drew closer. "Was there a fight?"

Sandersonia and Marigold followed their elder sister, carrying an old man bound by two snakes. They looked around at the mess left behind by the battle, completely stunned. What kind of fight could have left such drastic destruction?

In his upside-down view, Haredas saw Liam on the ground, seemingly "stuck" to it, and nearby, the exhausted Kuma. To his surprise, he realized there were other men on this island!

Hancock glanced at Jolyne, who was helping Giorno to sit up, then looked back and forth between them and Kuma. Although there had clearly been a fight, there didn't seem to be any hostility among them…

"Who is he?" Hancock asked warily.

"Your colleague," Liam said indifferently.

"Eh?" Hancock was baffled.

Robin couldn't understand but seemed unfazed by the oddity of the situation.

"…" Kuma was silent for a moment before standing up. "There are many people approaching. Let's move elsewhere for now."

He then lightly tapped Robin on the shoulder, and with a quick "BIU," she vanished.

Kuma turned to Liam, saying softly, "She's on the other side of the island."

"Bring them along too," Liam nodded, but as Kuma raised his paw toward him, he put on a look of mock fear and reached out to Hancock, calling, "Hancock, save me-!!"

"…" Kuma silently made him disappear with a paw strike.

"Asshole!!!" Hancock, furious for the first time in her life, dashed at Kuma, her expression darkening. "What did you do to them?!"

"…"

Kuma turned and met her charge with a single paw strike.

'BIU,' Hancock vanished under his paw.

"Big sis-!" Sander Sonia and Marigold looked ready to cry.

Kuma walked toward them in silence and, without a word, sent them away with two quick strikes. The two sisters disappeared on the spot.

Finally, Kuma looked at the old man, still tied up.

"Uh…" Haredas muttered in disbelief.

Kuma casually sent him away with a strike as well.

Peace at last…

Kuma then retrieved his Bible, gave the air a swift slap, and instantly vanished himself, leaving only a giant paw print, a deep crater, and the broken trees scattered across the ground.
