Chapter 95: Chapter 97: Shinji: Just Bear with It; It’ll Be Over Soon.
In the set designed to look like a ruined castle, Sakura quietly watched Shinji direct the crew.
In front of the camera, sitting in a chair and bound with ropes, was Rin Tohsaka. She was looking at Shinji with a peculiar expression.
Before this, Rin had no particular feelings about the scene. It was just a necessary part of the story.
After all, Shinji was always meticulous about filming, especially with intimate scenes, which he strictly regulated. Unless it was a married couple or lovers, he used trick photography to avoid any possible "accidents."
This was the same approach he took with Sakura's scenes.
Filming was usually done with a cleared set, only a few essential crew members, and trusted people like Kariya and Shirou were allowed to stay.
However, after the recent conversation, Rin's feelings changed.
Even though she believed Shinji wouldn't make a move on her or use filming as an excuse to touch her, a voice in her head still whispered.
What if?
"What are you looking at?"
Shinji asked curiously, noticing Rin staring at him.
"Nothing." Rin turned her head, feeling guilty. "I just remembered you did something similar when we were kids."
"Well, we were kids then."
Shinji scratched his nose, slightly embarrassed.
Rin was referring to their childhood playtime.
"You played the villain kidnapping me, Sakura acted as your henchman, and Shirou was supposed to rescue me..." Rin huffed. "This setup is quite similar to that."
Shinji's eyes darted around. "Inspiration, you know~"
By "inspiration," he meant that the childhood role-playing game inspired this scene.
Back then, Shinji wanted to tease the mature-acting Rin, so he concocted a scenario.
It was a disaster. Shirou, the supposed hero, failed to beat Sakura and got thrashed instead.
Thus, Shinji, as the "bandit leader," enjoyed fondling Rin's stockings until she almost cried.
But his triumph was short-lived because Sakura saw him touching Rin and demanded three months' worth of his allowance to quell her anger.
This was why Shinji often conned Rin and Shirou out of their allowance since his own was always given up to Sakura.
"You're not going to do what you did back then, are you?"
Unlocking those memories made Rin increasingly nervous.
Would this jerk Shinji actually do something to her?
"What are you talking about? I was just tickling you; it wasn't anything inappropriate," Shinji defended himself.
After all, Shinji was just a kid then, and if he stuck to the story of mere tickling, no one could accuse him of anything else.
Back then, Shinji had some thoughts of possibly marrying Rin someday, so he stayed close to her, resulting in more mischievous behavior.
Later, after clarifying his thoughts, those feelings faded, and he naturally stopped "bothering" Rin.
Now, even filming a heated bed scene wouldn't stir much desire for Rin in him.
Of course, he wouldn't miss the chance for a bit of fun, but otherwise, Shinji wouldn't feel like he was missing out.
Shinji had filmed such scenes many times. If not for Rin being in this one, he wouldn't have cleared the set this time.
Japan is relatively conservative. In Western filming, doing nude scenes isn't much harder than normal ones, despite their detailed regulations.
Everyone knows Westerners often say one thing and do another.
Most Western actresses in the industry strip without much hesitation on camera. Any psychological barriers are usually found in newcomers; seasoned actresses are like veterans.
Adhering strictly to rules takes too much time and effort, which isn't cost-effective. Better to get it over with by shooting naked.
As long as there's no recorded evidence, what's seen is seen, and it doesn't hurt.
Kariya signaled to Shinji that the set was cleared and ready for filming.
Shinji took the last moment before shooting to briefly talk with Rin.
"Alright, don't be nervous during the shoot. Just bear with it; it'll be over soon." Shinji spoke formally.
"You sound like you're talking about an injection."
Rin rolled her eyes.
"Yeah yeah." Shinji shook his head. "I think staying relaxed and natural is the best state. That way, we can get it in one take. By the way, where are the sensitive areas on your legs?"
"Shinji Matou, go to hell!"
Rin glared at him fiercely. If not for not wanting to trouble the props team, she would have broken free from the ropes and fought Shinji then and there.
"What are you thinking!" Shinji waved his hand dismissively. "I just don't want to accidentally touch a place I shouldn't and have you misunderstand."
Rin looked at Shinji with disdain, her eyes full of disbelief.
"Click your tongue all you want. You think you're some kind of prize? I have no interest in a girl whose figure is only slightly better than Arturia's."
One of Shinji's unshakable habits was his tendency to make snarky comments, and even traversing worlds hadn't cured him of it.
The king of trash talk often paid the price for his words.
Just like now.
"Shinji Matou, go to hell!"
Unable to tolerate it any longer, Rin broke free from the ropes and delivered a hard shoulder tackle to Shinji, almost making him cough up his guts.
The result of Rin's outburst was that the props team had to tie her up again.
However, this physical (and somewhat violent) exchange wasn't meaningless.
During the subsequent filming, both Rin and Shinji channeled their anger and frustration into their performances, making their emotions seem very genuine.
They managed to get through the scene with only two takes.
The only downside was that to avoid further provoking Rin, Shinji used trick photography for some of the more intense scenes.
This meant Shinji ended up touching a pair of prop legs wrapped in black stockings instead of Rin's actual legs.
"It makes me feel like a real pervert," Shinji grumbled.
Hearing Shinji's complaint, Shirou, Sakura, and Rin all rolled their eyes at him simultaneously.
"Aren't you?" *3

Even the longest journey must come to an end. As the days passed, the filming of UBW and HF gradually approached its conclusion.
After shooting most of the major scenes, the final scene Shinji had to film in Fuyuki City was the farewell scene between Archer and Rin in UBW.
To ensure this scene gave the audience the best visual impact, Shinji didn't shoot it in a studio like most dawn or dusk scenes. Instead, he chose to shoot it outdoors, scheduling the shoot during the "Golden Hour."
This term is used in various fields like astronomy and medicine. In photography, it specifically refers to the hour around sunrise and sunset.
When the sun is near the horizon, the sunlight passing through the atmosphere takes on a unique yellow hue.
Even ordinary scenes can appear enchanting and captivating during this time.
Shooting during the Golden Hour outdoors, as opposed to using warm yellow studio lights, provides more layered lighting. Shadows cast by the characters are also longer, giving the images more depth and composition.
Shinji had wanted to experiment with making his shots more beautiful, and shooting during the Golden Hour was a new attempt for him.
However, despite the many benefits of Golden Hour shooting, Shinji and the crew had to make extensive preparations.
Due to the outdoor location and the specific angle of light, they had only one hour each morning to shoot.
To avoid wasting time, Shinji and the crew had to wake up in the middle of the night and head to the entrance of Ryuudou Temple to set up.
Fortunately, Shinji was well-acquainted with Issei and his family, allowing them to stay at the temple without paying for lodging.
"Head Priest Issei is such a nice person, even providing us with breakfast," Arturia said, munching on a rice ball provided by the temple.
"Hmph, that old monk is quite shrewd."
Shinji exhaled a puff of cold air, sneering.
The film version of FSN had become a huge hit, turning Ryuudou Temple into a must-visit pilgrimage site for fans touring Fuyuki City. The temple's incense donations had tripled over the past two years. Given this boost, the head priest couldn't possibly refuse to host the film crew.
"You're always so mercenary."
Bundled up in a coat, Rin sipped her hot tea, grumbling.
Shinji glanced at the violent girl who nearly knocked his guts out earlier.
"When we start shooting, make it quick. The sooner we finish, the less chance you'll have of catching a cold. Don't blame me if you do."
"You're overthinking it. I have this."
Rin proudly took out a red gemstone from her skirt pocket and waved it at Shinji.
"What's that?"
"A synthetic ruby. It releases stored mana to provide heat. As long as I keep it close, I won't feel cold."
"This was your idea, Shinji! You told me to explore new uses for magic! I'm sure this will be very popular in the future. I really am a genius."
Rin smiled brightly, unsure if she was happier about outsmarting Shinji or about the potential money this "invention" could earn.
"Well..."
Shinji hesitated for a moment before saying, "Why don't you just use a heat pack? It's much cheaper than a synthetic gem."
