I was awakened by the rays of the sun falling directly on my face. Immediately, an extremely nasty pain came over my entire body. I had to look at the nanites' report on my condition to see what was wrong. Except that physically, everything was fine. Except for the marks on my neck. I quickly destroyed them, however, and the skin regenerated.
Next I tried to scan my aura. It was a pity that, unlike Gerda, my ability to do so was limited. Still, I managed to sense some details. The whole aura was dotted with various gaps. The biggest ones were in my arms and chest. Just where Abe had wounded me with his iron. There was also a slightly smaller mark on my neck, and very little damage on the rest of my body. I hazarded a guess that it was due to the energy the Japanese had pumped into my body.
Since I wasn't sure if chilopnesis would be able to heal the aura, I tried using regeneration. Up to this point, I had only healed material wounds, but the ability proved to be pretty good. After a dozen minutes, I felt incredibly light in my body, and the pain had receded.
Now I had to find out how the guys were doing, deal with all the corpses, and get something to eat. Using clairvoyance, I saw that the boys and girls were gathered in the main hall. But before I could get out, I ran into Anna Stone.
- Boss, you're finally awake! - she cheerfully exclaimed as she ran closer.
- Sort of," I said, smiling at her.
- Are you alright? - The woman asked with genuine concern.
- 'More or less, Miss Stone. What about the bodies of the invaders? - I asked, signalling Anna to follow me.
- We piled them up. But what do we do with so many bodies?
- I'll pulverise them into dust. There won't be a trace of them left. And my barrier? Is it still working? - I've come to realise.
- Yes. As far as we can tell, it's working properly.
- Good. Any intruders?
- No one, sir. No regular people, no lowlifes. We checked the neighbourhood thoroughly, but we found some strange footprints. It's as if the attackers appeared out of thin air in four places around the mansion.
- A teleport with the help of magicians," I said confidently.
- And there were strange drawings. Just like in fantasy. We even took pictures of them for fun.
- Okay, I'll see what it is later. But it's probably due to the interference that prevented us from teleporting.
- ...and then, I saw a world where Kyle had five magical stones covered in multi-coloured glyphs. He could do things with them that were just wow! - Daniel said, choking up with excitement.
- That's an interesting thing to say, mate," I said, walking over to the boys.
- Kyle! - Aki, Dan and Gerda instantly surrounded me in a semi-circle.
- How are you?! - Aki asked worriedly, hugging me gingerly, even though she usually squeezed my arms with the force of a hydraulic press.
- I'm fine. I fixed myself up, and now I'm like a cucumber.
- What's a cucumber got to do with it? - Gerda asked in surprise, tilting her head sideways.
- It's an expression used in the former Soviet Union. It means that everything is normal.
- You were worried," Benjy said calmly, coming closer. - I told you everything would be fine, didn't I?
- So, tell me what happened! - Aki ordered menacingly, her arms at her sides, radiating aggressive energy and trying to loom over me. Alas for her, I was taller than her. - And keep in mind - the extent of your punishment will depend on this story!
It's clear. The girl was really nervous and now she was trying to blow off steam. I can understand it, though. If she were in a similar situation, I'd be just as worried.
- Okay, but first we have to destroy the bodies of the killers. I'll take care of that. You guys wait here.
After I got the nods, I headed out. On the way, I met my mum, who had been informed of my awakening. The woman immediately rushed over to hug me and scold me, saying I had been reckless. After calming her down, I managed to get out of the mansion.
Just as I was about to destroy the bodies, an interesting thought occurred to me. Why not take DNA samples? I was planning to do genetic experiments in the future, and such an abundance of excellent material would not be superfluous.
I had to load the collector with containers for the job. Then collect samples from each of the several hundred bodies. And only after that could we start cleaning up the area. Plus, almost the entire front of the house was covered in blood. That had to be cleaned up, too. And that took a lot longer. Of course, you could just vaporise the topsoil, along with the lawn and other plants, but that would be a lot of foul play. I had to concentrate on the blood, which wasn't easy. However, after the battle with the immortal Japanese, my connection to the book and understanding of its capabilities increased, which made it possible to do things previously difficult to do. Now I could not release a wave of destruction, but simply wish, for example, to destroy an organ. However, such a trick would work with not too strong energetic beings. Those who have a decent amount of power, the resistance increases significantly.
Twenty minutes later, I was busy tidying up the ploughed earth. Still, the invaders didn't care about this problem at all, pounding everything they could. Only then did I calmly remove the barrier and go to tell my friends about the awesome story.
- Then I turned his body to dust and took his head as a present for you and Miss Naomi. I took the blade, too.
- That's awful, son! - Mum exclaimed, with her hands splayed. - Why can't these creatures stay in their own homes?!
- That's their nature, I guess, - I answered.
- Eh, I would sit with you boys and girls, but work is not waiting, - said mum sadly, hugging me, and then said goodbye to everyone and ran away.
- ... Okay, you're forgiven," Aki said, sitting on my right hand. - But be more careful next time! Do you have any idea what I went through when I saw you and the Immortal Bastard disappear somewhere?! He's really strong. At least he was. After killing two people from my bloodline alone! I... I was terrified at that moment that I was going to lose you too....
All this time, Aki held me tightly with her hands, as if I might disappear. Towards the end of her speech, the girl began to cry. I had never seen her cry before, which now seriously surprised me. She had only let up once, the day she told me about her mother's order to get married. I never would have thought it. She'd already turned my perception of myself upside down more than once.
- Well, well, my friend of my harsh days, why are you so glum? - I asked her gently, hugging her tightly. - I'm here. I, you know, not so easy to defeat. Come on, let's stop being soggy. It's gonna be okay.
- Mm-hmm," the girl sniffled, nuzzling her face into my shoulder.
- And yet, sadly enough, I can agree with Red," Gerda said, her voice full of feigned annoyance. - Your disappearance with the enemy was unexpected and frightening, what a sin. Yet I was calmer, believing that my chosen one had the power to overcome a terrible foe.
The guys sat and kept silent, trying not to glare. Apparently, the guys' instincts are working well. Very useful in the future, when they have a family.
- Speaking of winning! - wiping away her tears, Aki, who had calmed down a bit, said. - You were able to defeat an enemy that terrorised my clan for almost two hundred years! I feel that as soon as my unmarried relatives find out about it, they will try to charm you Kai by any means necessary! But they won't.
- I have enough of you from your clan," I said with a grin. - I'm afraid I can't take two of them.
- And I'm the only one," Aki said confidently, puffing up proudly.
- Then I'm calm. Speaking of which, have you had any problems with your parents?
- It's fine, Kyle," Ben was the first to answer, sipping the coffee they'd brought us. - We all said right after the battle that we'd sleep over at your place.
All the other guys nodded in agreement.
- That's good. Then I think Gerda and Aki should tell their mums the truth. You guys should keep quiet.
Everyone agreed again. And I, having settled the pressing issues, relaxed and felt something strange. Daniel felt the same as the girls and Benjamin. Well, well, well.
- Dan, did you, what, get an E.G.O.?
- Yep!" the boy cheerfully confirmed. - Look!
A bracelet appeared on his arm, held perpendicular to the floor, as if from a world where steampunk had triumphed. It looked interesting enough. But more importantly, it was functional. I could sense its approximate capabilities through my powers, but it was easier to ask, which I did.
- I can amplify other people's E.G.O.'s," Dan said with satisfaction. - But that's only half of my abilities. The other is that I can partially recreate the abilities of others whose owners I've enhanced. I've even come up with a name for it. Empathy. How's that sound? Sound good?
- It suits you very well," I replied sincerely, thinking about it.
In general, empathy, in isolation from the force of the same name, is empathy and understanding of other people's feelings. And Daniel, being the soul of the company, possessed this very not supernatural empathy, knowing how to support the conversation, cheer up, and cheer up when necessary. Therefore, both the name E.G.O. and its possibilities suited him.
- By the way, Gerda and Ben haven't come up with names for their E.G.O.'s. Would you like to do it now?
- Hmm, that's not a bad idea," the girl said. - Hereby call my power Conscencia or Awareness in Latin.
- Not bad. And you are Benjamin?
- Let's call it Truth. I know what information is true and I can swap lies and truths if I want to.
While the guys were deciding what names to give their powers, Aki called her mother and invited her over for some important conversations. Since the woman didn't work in the US, she didn't have any kind of schedule like the vast majority. At the same time, the elder Igorashi represented her clan and had the legend of an investor. Aside from serious fighting abilities, which fortunately or unfortunately I had yet to see, she was savvy in business matters. After her husband and sisters died, Naomi was contracted to learn how money was made as a distraction from her grief. And from what I understand, Aki's mum was good at it. So her negotiations with the Pure Ones, which had so far ended in nothing, were supplemented by meetings with various comrades, eager to get a lot of money with not always clear prospects for the future.
However, she was free at the moment and agreed to attend. Not wanting to waste time, I teleported to Igarashi's house. I was met there by a woman who was already packed.
- Hello, Aunt Naomi," I greeted her with a smile.
- Hello to you too, Kai," she said cheerfully, calling me by my daughter's name. - What happened there that Akiko was so excited? Did you give me a granddaughter? Or a whole grandson?
- It hasn't come to that yet," I answered quickly. It was still strange to discuss such things with my girlfriend's mother. In this world, though, it was a commonplace thing.
- It's a shame," Igarashi said sadly. - Do I have to tell my daughter what's what?
- I think Aki knows what's going on," I said softly, refusing to let her have fun at the expense of the younger generation. - If you're ready, I'll teleport us.
- Yeah. You do that.
One second and we're back in my mansion.
- "Hello, guys," Naomi greeted the boys and Gerda. They in turn greeted her.
- Mum! Imagine, Kai single-handedly took down Igarashi's Bane yesterday!
- What? You're not kidding? - The woman asked incredulously, shifting her gaze from her daughter to me.
The guys, along with Gerda at this point, decided not to distract us and started a conversation about the pros and cons of each E.G.O..
- It's just like Aki said," I replied, removing the cloth that covered it from Abe's head.
- It can't be..." the older Igarashi whispered in amazement, stepping closer and staring at the physical evidence. - It's definitely him... Even after death, he's smirking. How like him... Are all the Igarashi who died by his hand avenged?
- Yes. I think you'll like this gift.
- Like it?! Oh, yes! You have no idea! - the woman said hoarsely, still staring at the murderer's head. - Now I have to kill one of the Fingers that Abe commanded the day my sisters and husband died. Then I can die in peace.
- What are you talking about?! - Aki exclaimed unhappily, even getting up from the sofa.
- Why did he kill so many Igarashi? Was it for personal motives? - Asked the woman.
- No. We're strong, so Abe found opponents that are fun to fight. At least that's what the Bastard told me himself when he killed my father," replied Naomi in a sad voice.
- Yeah, he said something like that to me too. And he also wanted to motivate Aki with my head cut off from my body.
- What a kono-yaro! - The girl cursed in her heart.
- Though I agree with you, but don't express yourself young lady. You are still the heir of a great clan.
- Here we go! - Aki said with a snort, waving her hand in displeasure.
- I can't tell you how grateful I am to you Kyle," the elder Igarashi said solemnly. - How can I repay you? If it is in my power, then tell me and then.....
- Nothing, Aunt Naomi. You've already given me the most valuable thing," I said, putting my arm around Aki's waist, to which the girl hummed.
- Still, I have a debt to pay. If anything, I'm ready to pay it back anytime Kyle.
- If you say so. By the way, I also have his sword. Maybe you'd like to take it.
- Bloody night? Don't you want to keep such a powerful blade? - The woman asked in surprise. - Or haven't you realised how powerful it is?
- Why, yes, I do," I said with a wry grin, rubbing the spot on my chest where the assassin had wounded me. - On my own skin. But as I realised, it's a cursed sword, with a consciousness of its own and thirsty for blood. That's why I prefer to stay away from it. What if the blade tries to subjugate my mind? My mind, of course, is unlikely to succeed, but someone nearby might.
- I know enough about this katana to say that it's not as dangerous as other similar swords. Unless it's for someone with no willpower at all.
- Plus, my fighting style is medium to long range. Ideally, no one should be able to reach me at all. That's why the katana isn't for me.
- Well, you know best. But I'd still be very interested in hearing about your fight and what happened here yesterday. The emanations of death clearly hinted at some serious carnage.
So I began to tell again about the battle with the Japanese and the fight with Ruki's servants. The woman interrupted me from time to time to clarify some points, but mostly she kept silent. After I had told her everything, Naomi was silent for a moment, thinking about what I had heard. After coming to some sort of conclusion, she took Abe's head and his blade and asked me to teleport her home. But before doing so, she bowed deeply and thanked me once again, with feeling, for killing her worst enemy.
I began to decide with the guys how to proceed. To begin with, I suggested that we get a tower faster and start mastering our own powers. The first will free up time for more necessary things, and the second not to die in the next confrontation. And I didn't even doubt that there would be one.At the same time, I said that I would create books like mine that would be suitable for friends. I had already chosen them for Aki and Gerda, so I just had to create them. It was harder for the guys, but I'd pick something for them too.
But I had to deal with the company's business, as well as the management of the organisation, which didn't add much time. Fortunately, the possibility of creating clones and the intelligent subordinates I recruited smoothed this moment.
Over the next month and a half, the base in the other dimension was completely finished. I planned to create the first Anomaly as soon as I had enough Light. I recruited a few more subordinates. I still couldn't stand up to the Hand on equal footing, because the organisation had existed before humans existed. Back then, the Beast was worshipped by some aliens or other races of Earth. Over such an abyss of time, the servants of the demon had gathered a lot of knowledge, artefacts and gained a lot of influence. We might have to wait a few more years to destroy the Hand once and for all. But still, I was already looking for people to work with Igarashi in Japan to weaken the sect's position.
But there was a ladle of honey in the honey barrel. In the last month, the attacks on the companies and bases that we created in the United States (in other countries I have not established myself at the moment) have become more frequent. All of these attacks have come from different levels and for different reasons. Gangsters, bureaucrats, IRS, firemen, police, and on and on and on. It was very strange. Somebody got a whispered word or two, somebody got some interesting information, somebody just suddenly decided to do a background check. I had to use connections, Light, debtors and dirt to keep some of the more zealous people quiet. A couple of times with gangsters it came down to shooting and mopping up. I didn't like it all that much. There was an evil will behind it all. Obviously, this Enemy (I'll call him that for now) knows a lot about me. At the same time, I had already repelled the attacks more than once, but again and again they tried to hurt me with such jabs. What's this all about? What is he trying to achieve and doesn't he realise it's not very effective? But I had to accept these incidents as a necessary evil for the moment, because I couldn't find the Enemy. The Bitch was very clever, not getting caught in the nets. But that's all right, I couldn't hide all the time. Sooner or later, I'll catch him or her and interrogate him or her with special care.
In the meantime, I got the info on the R Corporation Singularity. These guys in the post-apocalyptic future were the equivalent of PMCs. And their Singularity was a big help. And it was simple enough. Cloning. When power was available, R Corporation incubators could create huge numbers of clones of their employees. First, thousands of copies were created, then they were thrown into a space with accelerated time, where a royal battle took place. The most capable, who defeated all their spears and ate their flesh, as there was no other food, was accepted into the main units, the so-called "packs". This designation came from the animal theme of the corporation, namely the division of the troops into four types. The first were rabbits, who took on the role of sharp shooters, not distinguishing targets from civilians, shooting everyone they see. The second were rhinoceroses, protected by massive armour, armed with heavy weapons, with reinforced bodies, these guys were living tanks, which during the battle could go into a rage, destroying everything in its path. The third were deer, the weakest physically, but with the help of specific genetic enhancements and special weapons, they could drive entire armies insane or simply kill them with brain electromagnetic waves. However, they were the most unreliable squad, as they could fail to cope with the strain on the mind and go mad themselves, and then "help" their comrades. The fourth were the crows, which were liquidators for unreliable "animals" or immediately "flocks".
In general, these guys were very peculiar even for a fucked-up City, with its equally fucked-up population. However, probably, because of such specificity R corporation had a lot of weight, because even for such beaten guys there were cases for which they were ready to pay generously.
I needed the technology of this corporation. In addition to four well-established genetic templates for soldiers, I got knowledge of four variations of armour, enhancing the capabilities of fighters and many types of good weapons. All of this will definitely not be out of place for the mass creation of super-soldiers who can defend against all sorts of threats or contribute to the destruction of the Hand. Ironically, I wasn't going to use the Singularity itself.
Here's the thing. Until a few years ago, I had considered the possibility of gaining knowledge of cloning and then correcting my sexual imbalance. Naturally, only when I had serious weight. Otherwise, they would come after me very quickly and not the fact that they would politely ask me to share. Still, if a country gets its hands on such a trump card, it will be able to dictate terms to the whole world. If it can protect that trump card, of course.
The problem of equalising the number of men and women has been tried to be solved since ancient times, but without much success. With the discovery of the possibility of cloning mammals, the world literally froze in anticipation. Scientists one after another said that it was just a little longer until the moment when everyone would be equal. But not all of them were so positive. And the various religious movements were stirred up. Not as much as on my first Earth, because this problem was hot and its solution would make those involved the main heroes for centuries, if not millennia.
But all was smooth on paper, but they forgot about the ravines. Females were still barely able to clone, but males were practically impossible. Only as an exception to the rule. In the end, it wasn't worth the effort.
Scientists tried and tried and tried, but to no avail. As soon as they got into the possibility of regulating the sex, the cells became unviable. Make a human super-soldier or even a god in the flesh like the Sentinel? Easy! But you can't do it with floors. It's all natural. As if it's some kind of constant in the universe. Only IVF worked, and rarely the first time. So far we've tried to get to the bottom of it, but it's all been in vain. Adjustments could only be indirect. For example, extending the life of men, reducing the number of their deaths and so on.
Cloning the R corporation would also fail to solve the problem. I could clone thousands of women, but why? It wouldn't solve the main problem, but it would raise all sorts of ethical issues and so on.
And while I was doing all these things, the stock price of Stark Industries dropped 56%. That's when I gave the order to buy them up. I even managed to get the price up a little bit. But even my "heroic", hehe, attempts to selflessly help the company didn't help much. I got my representatives on the board of directors just as these guys decided to make a case for Antonia and throw her out of office. There was no point in interfering, because it would get us nowhere, but it would give the bigwig a slap on the wrist.
There's only a little time left before Stark takes a swipe at Obadiah. Shouldn't miss the moment to borrow RHS. I'll see how good it is. Might even use it for myself.
But Antonia is good, and girly books are even better. There was enough light on both at once. I didn't save up for nothing. After calling both of them and finding out when they would be free, I got ready to sculpt.
- "Yohi, it's time to make books for the girls. Get the ball rolling."
- Got it," replied the AI girl.
Everything took about three hours to complete. By then, the girls had just been released. After teleporting them to my house, I gave each of them my book.
- Kali's Red Mist? - Aki asked perplexed.
- Black Arbiter Garion? - Gerda echoed her.
- Yeah. Red Mist was one of the strongest mercenaries of the other world, just due to the E.G.O. armour, and Arbiter Garion was simply a purifier of the so-called Head, the ruler of the last stronghold of humans in the world destroyed by the Last War. Speaking of which, it's ironic that Red Mist and Arbiter almost killed each other in a duel.
- Yeah, very ironic," Aki said sarcastically, glancing at Gerda, causing her to snort arrogantly.
- Well, you'll see for yourself. Just wish to dissolve the book in your soul.
The girls followed suit and stood frozen as pillars of salt for a few seconds.
- Holy shit! - A pale Aki wheezed, shaking her head. - I just lived some woman's life. I also feel like I can use all of her powers and equipment. Did you have the same thing Kai?
- Yeah. I had it a lot worse, though. With no experience in killing, I looked at the memories of a creature that had no mercy, quite the opposite.
- Fuck..." Gerda said, rubbing her face with her palms. Noticing our eyes staring at her, she asked. - What are you looking at? I have just seen such a wild thing that not every horror film will show. And from a copy of yourself from another world. That's where you get your technology from, isn't it, Kyle?
- Yeah.
- Your copy? - Aki asked. - I wasn't exactly a copy, although I had hair of a similar colour.
- Gerda has a copy in that world and you don't," I said. - Well, it doesn't matter.
- This Light-based technology of yours is pretty cool, though! - Aki said, closing her eyes as if listening to something. - You know how to use it right away. All that's left is to gain experience!
- I agree with that statement," Gerda said, returning to her usual style of conversation.
- Now you are stronger and have new abilities. Would you like to test them?
- That's right Kai! That's a great idea! - Aki exclaimed enthusiastically and turned to Gerda. - Mate, what do you say?
- Pfft, I don't mind, - Gerda replied with a smile at the corner of her mouth.
- Then let's go!I teleported the space breaker to me and jumped into another dimension together with the girls. Since my dear ladies now have a lot more strength, and they will not hold back, it is better to spar in a safe place. We found ourselves a dozen kilometres from the base on a small plain. I immediately informed the duty officers of my arrival, so they wouldn't worry about anything. I also changed Aki and Gerda's appearance. There's no need for everyone to know who my strongest charges are at the moment.
- It's beautiful here," my cute little girl said, looking around. Her rival friend nodded. - Where are we by the way? The nature looks like Thailand, but that bird doesn't look like much.
- It's a dimension adjacent to Earth. It was empty, so I decided to build it up," he replied, sitting down on the nearest large rock.
- That's cool. So it's safe to be here? - Aki asked hopefully, shifting her gaze to me.
- That's right.
- Speaking of which, am I going to win in a fight with you now? - Aki asked.
- Hmm, that's an interesting question," I stretched out and thought about it. The girls didn't interrupt, waiting with interest for me to answer. - 30% that you will win in our direct confrontation. And that's after a few weeks of getting used to the new powers. Still, my book is the most variable of all.
- Then once I get the hang of it, we'll swing! - Aki declared and banged her fists and turned to Gerda. - Can't we just get started?!
- I've been ready to win for a long time. You yourself are on the path of defeat, - almost sang my dear lady, smiling proudly and folding her arms on her chest.
- We'll see about that! - Aki exclaimed and manifested first her E.G.O. and then her Geburah as well.
It took the form of black and red segmented armour with hollow circles on the head, chest, back of the palms and ankles. As it did so, the armour synergistically began to adjust itself to fit the girl's nakedness and gloves. Aki's hair lengthened, exuding a red mist, as did the cloak thrown on top. But that wasn't the end of it either. The next thing she had in her hands was a huge, rusty cleaver half, if not more, made of flesh covered in variously shaped eyes. It was a sight to behold. The thing turned into an amorphous mass, merging with Aki's main E.G.O., increasing the volume of her gloves and boots by a factor of one and a half. Very interesting. Did the girl choose that shape herself?
- Gee, it's not aesthetically pleasing," commented Gerda, who was watching the transformation closely, shaking her head disapprovingly, seemingly unimpressed. - I am beginning to feel ashamed of you, dear sister.
- You should be ashamed of yourself after our fight! - Aki said, with metallic reverberations in her voice. - Use the book!
Gerda didn't say anything, just smiled wryly and put on a black dress below her knees, over which was a heavy even looking cloak with fur trim. The hexagonal patterns on the fabric were made of Moonstone, as were the edges of the garment. Such a concentration of material would be enough to completely block any telepathy, regardless of the strength of the attacker. Telekinesis and other psychic powers would be more difficult. The clothes themselves were also of the highest quality in terms of defence, I suspected. After all, it was created for the strongest warriors of that universe, which kind of hints at the unprecedented quality.
Even though Gerda looked less dangerous, I was still inclined to think that the odds were more in her favour, even if not by much. In addition to clothing that was as good as my Nouveau cloth, and quite possibly even superior, the girl had also gained new killing abilities.
- Are you ready?
- Yes!" Aki growled.
- I've been ready for a long time," Gerda confirmed calmly, smiling and folding her arms across her chest.
- On the count of three, then. One! Two! Tr!
- Saw, saw, saw!
- So stop! - I took out my phone and told the girls, who were about to start sparring. - Yes! What? Got it. I'll be right there.
- Pip.
- What's wrong? - Aki asked with her left arm at her side.
- Stark's going to fight Obadiah Stein to the death.
- What's that got to do with you?
- Because Stark has to bring in a lot of money to fulfil our plan. And with her technology, she's gonna play a big role in the future. Anyway, just wait for me, okay? Your new abilities are very dangerous.
- This is the third time we've been interrupted. Could it be fate or fate's mockery? - asked Gerda a rhetorical question.
- Arrrgh! This is getting annoying! - Aki stated and called off all the E.G.O.'s. Except that immediately a cramp went through her body and the girl went pale, lowering her head. - Damn, I thought it would be easier.
Well, this armour had two major disadvantages that went hand in hand with its immense strength and protection. The first was the inability to be used for long periods of time because of the energy required to maintain it. The second disadvantage was weakness once the E.G.O. was removed. It takes time to rest and recharge the ability afterwards. However, I think these issues can be solved by strengthening the girl's body. In the meantime, Aki's recovery has helped ease the knockback.
- All right, you guys stay here, I'll go back and forth. The disgruntled girls nodded and decided to look around. I jumped over to the Stark Industries building. Here, Obadiah was already trying to flatten Antonia. It was average. But it looked much cooler in person than in the cinema, especially the way they flew upwards together. The only thing missing was popcorn.
And now it's all coming to a close. Stark hangs helmetless over the reactor, I've covered her with an invisible barrier just in case, while Stein tries to shoot her. Pepper presses a button and a stream of energy shoots upwards. A moment and the defeated Obadiah collapses in his huge suit. There's an explosion, but no one notices the little glowing reactor on the steel giant's chest disappear. Except me, of course.
Now it's time to study it. I think the girls can wait a few minutes while I settle my research itch. Next stop is my lab. Having analysed the borrowed gizmo, I come to the conclusion that it is a terrible primitive on the one hand and quite a good acquisition on the other. There were much cooler reactors among the knowledge gained, but all of them had drawbacks. Either negative impact on others with all kinds of radiation and (or) toxins, or at least considerable size. Very large. Here, though there was a dangerous impact on humans, but the tiny size made up for it. Small is better. And the danger was cancelled out by good containment. And it shouldn't be hard to improve a reactor like this. Now it will be possible not only to provide a huge amount of energy to their bases, without burning extremely expensive fuel, but also to adapt these little ones for armoured suits of the same rhinos. However, this is a matter for the future.
Leaving the reactor in the lab, jumped to the girls. Only they had already stopped sparring, as it was not surprising. Instead, they were enjoying the beauty of this dimension. Walking around these picturesque places, we rested our souls and put away all worries for a while. But as much as the three of us would have liked to stay longer, we had pressing matters to attend to.
And then Stark made a big deal about being Iron Man. The stock went up immediately, but by then enough had been acquired to intervene in the company's affairs if necessary. I even met with Antonia unmasked, thanking her snidely for the opportunity to buy shares cheaply and hoping that the woman would be able to cook up something interesting. She answered me in her sarcastic manner and at the end of the conversation she uttered a phrase about enemies not getting poorer and friends getting richer.
Fortunately things have settled down now, leaving only turnover. The company started to work and sell prosthetics, the number of subordinates is growing, we are slowly getting along with the girls.
And today was a very important day for the Plan. I was going to create the first Anomaly. The base is ready for it. The time control technology, however imperfect, was ready. The Klipot superpower suppression system was deployed, and a facility that would hold even the Hulk was complete.
Just in case, I sent all the subordinates away, leaving only Aki and Gerda. They didn't want to leave me, so I had to give in. Nodding to the girls, I materialised my E.G.O., tuned into one of my nightmares and infused it with Light.
Except, as usual, things didn't go according to plan. The energy expenditure increased manifold, literally squeezing all the juices out of me while a cloud of anthracite darkness grew a few metres away.
- He'll never stop chasing," said a faceless voice in my head.
A dozen seconds later, the cloud of darkness coalesced into a humanoid figure under three metres tall. But the most noticeable thing was the angry red eyes and horns in the shape of an infinity sign.
- Hey, Kai, is this how it's supposed to be? - Aki asked quietly, having lost her initial fervour. Gerda, however, was also quiet. And I couldn't blame them at all. This yuda-miracle was making a truly lasting impression.
