Chapter 56
Crawling in through the window, hordes of corpse-like spiders spread their sharp teeth to bite the legs of the zombies. Some of them climb up the legs, cover the faces of the zombies, and jab their fangs into the crimson eyes, causing thick red fluid to splatter. Little spiders continuously burrow into the wounds, scrambling the zombies’ brains, and rendering them immobile.
The entire room is filled with spiders, blocking the doorway and preventing the zombies from advancing. Only the place where the chestnut-haired man stands forms a circular boundary, and no spider dares to crawl into it.
The chestnut-haired man’s shoulders and arms have been bitten several times by zombies that were previously lunging at Su Ning. Blood oozes from the wounds, turning black, a sign of infection.
He seems to feel no pain at all, gently caressing her cheek.
His pale eyes contain a smile as he says helplessly, “There’s really no way, is there?”
Li Li, the man, knows when to pick his battles. If he can’t handle Lin Yu, he’ll go after Su Ning instead.
When Li Li asked him if he could resort to extreme measures, he nodded in agreement.
Watching her step back, leaning against the wall, looking terrified, helpless, and afraid, he knew that enduring the pain would enable her to return to the system space and meet him again. However, in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to be so ruthless.
Forcibly suppressing Li Li and taking over the body, his own skin trembles, pale without a trace of color. Facing a room full of spiders, her fear is no less than when facing the zombies.
He sighs softly and pulls her into his arms.
“You’re scared, aren’t you?” he murmurs.
Seeing her clutching his clothes tightly, covering her eyes with them, and beginning to sob quietly, he hears her voice gradually grow louder, mixed with sniffles, “I can’t do this anymore… I want to leave here… never to return… never to return…”
Wanting to leave, huh?
She has no points, can’t abandon the mission, and even if he privately transfers points to her, she can only settle the points after the mission ends. To leave, she has to complete the mission, or…
The manager’s eyes half-lowered, gaze fixed on her slender neck, contemplating various ways to kill her – poison, strangulation, cutting with a knife, letting spiders bite her… With each idea, his brows furrow deeper.
In the end, before he can carry out any of them, he’s overcome by pity.
He sighs silently once more.
It seems he’s truly been defeated this time.
“You’ve been bitten… you’re going to turn into a zombie…” Su Ning says, her face streaked with tears. Lifting her head from his chest, her eyes brimming with tears, she shows her wrist, “Bite me… turn me into a zombie too… I want to leave… want to leave here… never to come back…”
As soon as he touches her delicate white wrist, he feels her flinch, hears her trembling voice, “Bite gently… don’t use force…”
A gentle bite won’t draw blood.
The manager looks down at her with pale eyes, sees her shift her gaze away from the spiders on the floor, unable to find a place to rest her eyes, and nervously closes them.
He presses a light kiss on her wrist.
He can’t bring himself to bite her.
The manager pricks his fingertip with a nail; the zombie poison spreads quickly, and the blood flowing from the finger turns darker, thicker.
He would like to use the venom from the spiders, which would cause a painful death, but that would hurt her too much.
So, he’ll use the zombie poison, letting her turn into a zombie painlessly and slowly.
“I won’t bite you.” The manager lifts her chin, urging her to open her eyes and look at him. He brings his bloodied fingertip to her mouth, gently coaxing, “All you need to do is eat this drop of blood…”
His words are interrupted by Lin Yu, who appears at the doorway, following the noise of the zombies.
Silver threads in his hands quickly wrap around and shred several spiders trying to block his path. His eyes, half-brown, half-black, turn completely black as they fall on the chestnut-haired man who’s been bitten by zombies and is holding Su Ning captive.
Without a word, a sharp needle was conjured and shot out towards the back of the brown-haired man.
The manager pulled back his hand, holding Su Ning with one arm and turning to the side in a swift motion, dodging the needle.
The sharp needle deeply embedded into the wall, leaving a hole.
Such force, not even sparing Su Ning…
Looking at Lin Yu, who stood coldly across the room, surrounded by countless silver threads, his demeanor icy, the manager furrowed his brows. He held the back of Su Ning’s head to prevent her from turning at the noise.
The spiders in the room were no threat to Lin Yu.
Li Li’s body, although possessing a psychic ability, was limited by physical constraints and could only control simple arthropods. The room full of spiders was his limit. As a system administrator, his psychic power was immense, but if he were to use his full mental force, this body would not be able to withstand it. Lin Yu wouldn’t even need to attack; the body would simply explode.
Furthermore, there was the distinctive white pupil, a symbol of the Lord God’s management layer…
Those escaping from the system’s pursuit and the Lord God system were eternal enemies. If one discovered the other’s identity, they would kill if possible or flee quickly to avoid being killed. The escapees knew how to destroy the system. Without the system, if the body sustained a fatal injury, the host would truly die.
Sure enough, upon seeing his eyes, Lin Yu’s body began to emit an unstoppable killing intent, almost materializing.
Dozens of sharp needles formed in an instant, all aimed at him and shot out, without any regard for Su Ning, who he held in his arms.
He pushed Su Ning onto the large bed beside them, knowing she was timid. The manager made a point to disperse the spiders that had covered the bed as she fell, but he himself was impaled by the needles and firmly pinned to the wall.
All the sharp needles had missed his vital spots.
Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth, and the manager curled his lips into a smile, his white pupils watching Lin Yu approach. He laughed softly, “You can’t kill me…”
Lin Yu’s dark eyes were cold as another needle embedded into his shoulder.
He stepped forward, placing a hand on the manager’s head.
He was searching for the location of the system’s parasitic host.
“I’m sorry… But you’ll be wasting your effort,” the manager said, moving his fingers. The wounds on his fingertips had already stopped bleeding, and a mysterious smile crossed his white pupils. He chuckled, “Go ahead and search. If you find it, I’ll admit defeat…”
“Lin Yu!” Su Ning, who had been pushed onto the bed and was momentarily stunned after hitting her forehead on the bedside table, finally came to. Supporting herself, she took in the scene, gripping the bedsheet tightly. Forcing herself to ignore the spiders crawling under the bed and the bloodied figure of the brown-haired man nailed to the wall, she cried out, “Lin Yu! He saved me, don’t kill him!”
Hearing her trembling voice filled with fear and unease, Lin Yu was momentarily stunned, and his hand stopped. He turned his head slightly, and his dark eyes met hers.
This woman…
A spider crawled up the bed along the sheet, but a silver thread immediately flew over and shattered it.
The manager relaxed and closed his eyes.
Sensing that he wanted to escape, Lin Yu redirected his gaze and without further hesitation found the location of the system’s parasite, piercing it with a needle imbued with a soul-paralyzing effect.
Seeing the needle aimed at the brown-haired man’s heart, Su Ning’s eyes widened, and she hastily got off the bed, stepping on the remains of spiders as she ran to him, crying, “Lin Yu! Don’t!!” She threw her arms around his arm, but it was too late.
Lin Yu encircled her with one arm, pulling out the needle smeared with black blood, and frowned.
He let him escape.
A manager suppressed by the world’s rules after descending from the plane was no match for him, and he had finally encountered one, only to let him get away.
Lin Yu was inwardly frustrated. He grabbed her chin and said in a deep voice, “Why did you interfere with me?”
His cold black eyes stared at her, demanding, “What’s your relationship with him?”
Her chin hurt from his grip, and Su Ning tried to push him away, but he pressed her wrist against the wall, immobilizing her.
“Lin Yu!” Su Ning struggled in vain against his restraint, the pain in her chin and wrist as if her bones were about to break, tears welling in her eyes. “If you don’t let go, I’ll get angry!”
“Angry?” Lin Yu snorted coldly. “You’ve really been spoiled by him, getting angry over this?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Su Ning angrily stomped on his foot.
Displeased by her struggle, Lin Yu became very annoyed, his face darkening as he increased his grip, coldly saying, “Don’t move. Be still!”
“Ouch… It hurts!” Su Ning used her free hand to push him, pull him, slap him, glaring at him as she said, “I will move! I won’t be still! You can’t control me!” She continued to kick him with her foot.
Lin Yu’s eyes were dark, his thin lips tightly pressed together.
If it were anyone else, they would have been subdued by one of his needles long ago.
But with her, apart from holding her and trapping her, he really couldn’t think of any way to tame her.
Lin Yu led her to the balcony with one arm, where below, countless zombies had gathered, attracted by the smell of blood. But the entrance was sealed with a fine, sharp silver net, which easily sliced any zombie that tried to enter into pieces, preventing them from entering the building. Still, the sight of the zombies’ red eyes and their attempts to climb up the wall frightened her, and she retreated two steps.
Lin Yu released her, and while she was momentarily dazed, he stepped back into the room from the balcony and locked the glass door, crossing his arms and looking at her coldly through the glass.
“Lin Yu!” Coming to her senses, Su Ning tried to push open the glass door, only to find it locked from the inside. She looked at Lin Yu anxiously, as if sensing what was happening, and tapped on the glass door, her voice trembling with unease. “Lin Yu, why are you locking the door? Open it. I don’t want to stay here. Don’t joke with me; this joke is not funny at all!”
Hearing the scratching sound of the zombies below, Su Ning dared not stop knocking on the door. Seeing him turn to leave, she became desperate but forced herself to calm down. “Lin Yu, don’t go. Stop right now! Otherwise, I’ll be really angry, and I’ll ignore you forever!” Her voice couldn’t hide her fear and anxiety; she was scared, truly scared…
Afraid of being abandoned by him…
Lin Yu, however, turned a deaf ear and opened the door, ready to leave.
“Don’t go, don’t go!”
Don’t leave her here alone!!
Su Ning’s face pressed against the glass door, her palms red from knocking, tears welling in her eyes. She cried urgently, “I’m not angry anymore… I won’t be angry again… Lin Yu, don’t go!”
“I’ll be obedient, I’ll be still, please don’t leave me…”
“Don’t leave me here, you said you wouldn’t leave me…” Her voice was filled with a deep plea.
Yet, the door was still heavily closed, and his figure disappeared from her sight.
Su Ning helplessly squatted on the ground, burying her face in her knees, wiping her tears continuously.
Suppressing her cries, she sobbed.
“Big liar! Big liar! Wuwu…”
“You clearly said you’d never leave me…”
“Don’t leave me here alone…”
