Chapter 45
Luo Ao leaned into her neck but didn’t smell the pheromone scent that should have been there.
His brow furrowed into a frown, and he coldly questioned, “Did you use a pheromone suppressant?”
Feeling his hand tightening around her waist, Su Ning uncomfortably turned her face away.
Her eyes darting around appeared guilty to Luo Ao. She pursed her lips and gently nodded, saying, “Mm… the smell is too strong, I don’t like it…”
Nonsense!
Luo Ao’s eyes darkened. Clearly, it was because she had gone on a date with Eli behind his back.
Luo Ao spoke gravely, “Don’t use it again.”
“No!” Su Ning looked back at him stubbornly, as if resisting his authority, but her slightly trembling eyelashes betrayed her inner unease.
At this moment, just one more threat, and she would cower into his arms like a rabbit, seeking a sense of security.
So, Luo Ao said coldly, “If I see you using the suppressant again, I’ll give you another mark.” As he spoke, he caressed the unmarked skin of her neck.
“So, do you still plan to use it?”
Su Ning neither shook her head nor nodded, merely leaning motionless in his arms.
When Luo Ao lifted her chin, he saw her silently wiping away tears with the back of her hand, her eyes closed, refusing to look at him.
She wasn’t bending to his will, weak and cowed by a mere threat as he had imagined. Instead, her pitiful appearance was silently resisting him.
“…I hate you…” Not seeing him seemed to give her some courage, and Su Ning whispered an accusation against his wrongdoing, “You only force me… Even if you mark me, I will never like you…”
“You’re nothing compared to the Second Prince… I hate you!”
···
These words made Luo Ao’s face darken further, but in the end, he held back, fearing that doing anything more to her would only repel her further.
His dark eyes fixed on her face, Luo Ao coldly snorted and said in a deep voice, “Do you think Eli is a good person?”
“…Better than you…” Su Ning quietly retorted.
Luo Ao was silent for a moment before sternly saying, “He’s not much better than me.”
“Big liar… I won’t believe you at all… You’re the worst one!”
Luo Ao met her gaze and earnestly said, “Give it a try, see if he’s as pure and innocent as he appears.”
“No! I don’t need to try to know that the Second Prince is a very good and gentle person!”
Su Ning was very stubborn, blindly confident.
Luo Ao’s eyes darkened, and he lifted her chin, saying coldly, “I don’t object to you getting close to him, but you can’t continue to use the suppressant.”
“…You…” Su Ning was taken aback.
“Mm.” Luo Ao nodded, “As long as you promise not to use the suppressant, I won’t stop you from meeting him.”
Fearing he might change his mind, Su Ning hurriedly said, “Okay, you have to keep your word!”
“Mm.”
Eli would never be able to tolerate the scent of his pheromones on her. So, once rejected, she would probably be content to stay by Luo Ao’s side, wouldn’t she?
…
Luo Ao took her home.
When getting out of the car, he followed her, and Su Ning stopped in her tracks, putting her hand up to block him. “Don’t follow me! I didn’t invite you to my house!”
“I’m not looking for you,” Luo Ao grabbed her hand and effortlessly wrapped his arm around her waist, leading her towards the house.
“Then who are you looking for?”
“Your sister.”
Upon opening the door and entering, they saw Susan, who usually stayed in the library, actually sitting on the sofa watching a program on StarNet TV.
“Susan, why did you come back so early today?”
Susan, however, stood up in a daze when she saw Luo Ao, stammering, “G-General Luo Ao!”
Luo Ao coldly nodded, looking straight at her. “I saw your job application. You want to join Ruiril’s civil service department?”
Susan excitedly nodded, ignoring Su Ning standing next to Luo Ao. She knew that entering the Ruiril army was extremely difficult. Still, once inside, it would be the best proof of her ability, providing opportunities for both alpha and beta individuals. With this thought, Susan’s earlier nervousness faded, replaced by more composure.
“Yes, if the General can give me a chance, I will…”
Before she could finish, Luo Ao interrupted her, handing her a document. “This is your offer letter. If you find no issues, sign it.”
“Yes, General!” Susan took the letter with slightly trembling hands, quickly glanced over it, and signed without hesitation.
Luo Ao looked at the signature and nodded. “That’s fine. Pack your things within a day and report to Ruiril tomorrow.” He had found out that the pictures were sent from Susan terminal, so someone calculating behind Su Ning’s back could no longer stay by her side.
“Yes!” Susan immediately went upstairs to pack.
Su Ning, who had been ignored throughout, pouted, looking at Luo Ao. “You’ve finished your business; you can leave now.”
Luo Ao really disliked her constant attempts to distance herself from him, his face darkened, and he reached out for her only to see her instinctively retreat.
He restrained himself, pulled back his hand, and looked her in the eyes. “I’ll be away for ten days. I know you’ll seek out Eli during this time. If he treats you poorly, or if he wants to do something to you, go to Ruiril. Someone there will protect you…”
“Mmm…” Su Ning was sipping on a juice, her eyes fixed on the drama playing on the StarNet TV screen, giving a non-committal nod to his words.
Are you so sure Eli won’t do anything to you?
He will really be away for ten days, ten days without seeing her…
He had restrained himself earlier, fearing that it would frighten her. But now, she seemed to take it for granted and began to ignore him.
He thought it was time for a little warning.
Luo Ao stepped forward, picked her up by the waist and placed her on the sofa, bending over her and leaving several red marks on her lips and neck.
The juice spilled on the ground. Su Ning was angry but conscious of Susan packing upstairs, so she didn’t dare raise her voice. She pushed him away. “Don’t touch me! Hiss… It hurts! Bastard! Shameless!”
“You said you wouldn’t touch me… Big liar, despicable!!”
But when Su Ning found a hot spot, she suddenly stopped moving.
Her moist eyes clouded with fog, her lips tightly pressed, and she stopped scolding him, only quietly and obediently pleading with a soft, pitiable voice. “Luo Ao… Don’t treat me like this… I’m scared…”
Luo Ao almost laughed out loud.
How had he not noticed how clever she was before?
He had hoped for her to continue struggling, to continue to curse him, so that he could harden his heart and do something more outrageous. But now, all his frustrations and displeasure had been swept away by her fragile and trembling words.
Looking at her uneasy and pitiable expression, Luo Ao’s heart softened, and he felt that she was really a lovable treasure.
Luo Ao gently kissed her forehead to soothe her, his voice low and restrained. “Did you remember what I just said?”
Su Ning quickly nodded, seriously saying, “I remember!” Afraid that he wouldn’t believe her, she added, “If Eli treats me poorly, or if he wants to do something to me, I’ll go to Ruiril, where your people will protect me…”
“Yes, remember that’s good.”
Luo Ao didn’t get up, and Su Ning didn’t dare to rush him, only being very obedient, staying still.
Luo Ao gave her a punishing bite on her earlobe; she just shrank back and did not avoid it.
“Little coward.”
“…Huh?” She was embarrassed; her ears had just rung, and she hadn’t heard what he said.
…
Two days later, following the arrangements of the military corps, Susan, carrying large and small bags, looked at the extremely desolate and chaotic planet in front of her, as well as the so-called stone-built defense towers. She asked the guide with a dry laugh, “This… this place is wrong, isn’t it?”
The guide smiled without speaking, and after waving his hand to signal the spaceship to leave, he pushed open the wooden door.
“This place has just been invaded by the Bug Race, so it appears somewhat run down,” he said. “But the general highly values this place. The uncivilized natives here are all excellent fighters. If you can find a way to win them over, you will certainly be promoted three levels when you return to Ruiril. You might even become the general’s capable assistant!”
“Young person, seize the opportunity well!”
