I was sold to a dangerous place in order to repay my parents’ debt, and I ended up being bought by a vampire young lady. I became the feed for the beautiful maid.

Chapter 27: Why she wears maid clothes

Why she wears maid clothes

⟦ It was when I turned nine years old.

As I mentioned earlier, at that time, I didn’t take the fact of becoming a half-blood vampire seriously.

Looking back now, I mock myself for how foolish I was.

It was just an ordinary sunny day.

I was reading a book in my room while waiting for Lady Elina, who was receiving noble education.

The maid accidentally dropped an empty cup she was trying to put away.

The cup that fell to the floor broke with a dull sound.

[“I’m so sorry, Sakura-sama! Ouch!”]

[“Are you okay!?”]

Panicked by her blunder before me, she hurriedly picked up the shards and cut her hand.

Worried that she had gotten hurt, I instinctively rushed over.

[──!” ]

Suddenly, my heart raced wildly. My gaze was fixed on the blood flowing from the maid’s fingertip, and I was overwhelmed by a sudden thirst, a hunger-like sensation.

Despite saliva dribbling from my mouth, I couldn’t resist the temptation and I took the maid’s hand as if compelled, licking the index finger with the wound.

I don’t have clear memories from that point on.

It felt like I was trying to escape a devouring hunger that was consuming my entire body, and at the same time, I was reveling in a blissful sensation as if quenching my thirst..

Regardless, what I am certain of is that I was far from being in a stable state.

[“Wait, what…?”]

[“Sakura, has she regained consciousness!?”]

[“Hey, Saku-sama…?”]

I can’t say for certain how much time had passed, but when I regained consciousness, I found myself restrained by the Duke’s magic.

Not only the Duke, but also Lady Silvinia and Miss Elina were present. For some reason, all three of them had solemn expressions.

The answer to why they wore such expressions was right before my eyes.

[“Ugh, sob…”]

The maid was in tears, clutching her bloodied neck.

Despite her injury supposed to be limited to her fingertip, the amount of blood staining her maid uniform indicated a more severe bleeding, and my own clothes were also stained with blood.

The terror-filled gaze she directed at me at that moment, as she looked at me, is a memory I can recall vividly even now.

Upon witnessing these circumstances, I finally grasped the situation.

──I had succumbed due to the bloodthirst and attacked her.

It was perhaps a consequence of transforming into a vampire’s body, or more precisely, a half-blood vampire Vanpir.

Unlike my pure-blooded counterparts, I possessed a stronger bloodthirst that manifested as an overwhelming impulse.

Driven by this overwhelming hunger and thirst, most people who undergo the half-vampire transformation lose their rationality shortly thereafter, transforming into rampaging monsters driven by the thirst for live blood.

They kill other living beings, drink blood even from corpses, and go as far as attacking their own kind.

It’s no wonder that people from other realms refer to us as the Apostle of the Demon King, harboring such dread.

The main reason for my poor bloodsucking skills lies in both my inexperience stemming from my aversion to drawing blood from humans, and the fact that I’ve been consciously focused on resisting my bloodsucking urges.

I want to deeply apologize to Tsujizono-san for constantly putting a burden on him.

Returning to the story, up until that point, due to a moderate urge for blood and my lack of self-awareness, I had managed to suppress my impulses.

However, just being in close proximity to the scent and taste of fresh blood was enough to render me powerless.

Fortunately, thanks to the Duke’s timely intervention upon hearing the screams, while there was bleeding, the maid’s life was spared.

However, my heart could not escape the turmoil.

Traumatized by the assault I’d committed in a state devoid of rationality, she couldn’t return to her former position and ended up resigning within a month of the incident.

I’m unsure about her current circumstances, but I earnestly wish for her well-being at the very least.

On the other hand, upon hearing about half-vampires from the Duke, all I could do was tremble in the face of their ferocity.

Though I harbored a strong desire to deny the fact that I had transformed into such a being, the loss of rationality and the act of attacking another human left me unable to avert my eyes.

The reason Lady Silvinia and the others hadn’t gone into much detail until that point was due to their consideration for my state of shock.

Their thoughtfulness spared me from further distress.

I understood that if I hadn’t become a half-vampire, I would have long since died. I hold no intentions of blaming Madam.

However, as a consequence of that incident, I’ve developed a tendency to vomit when I attempt to draw blood from a transfusion pack.

This stems from both having acquired a refined taste for fresh blood and experiencing a rejection reaction born from the trauma of gazing into a monster’s eyes.

However, if I don’t feed, I might succumb to the bloodsucking impulse and rampage again.

Thinking that I might unintentionally hurt Miss Elina and Lady Silvinia, I had no choice but to forcefully suck the blood down, even if it meant vomiting.

Under normal circumstances, I might have been despondent. But that wasn’t the case, thanks to Lady Elina and the other members of the Duke’s family.

Despite the potential of being held accountable for causing such an incident, they called me family.

It was their warmth that made me realize that despite my half-vampire body, my heart could still remain human.

However, this isn’t necessarily true for others.

No matter how much King Verzeld might advocate, it doesn’t mean people who are familiar with the fear of half-vampires won’t harbor resentment.

The private tutor who had been responsible for Lady Elina’s education left, and a new one arrived.

She was cheerful and amiable, yet in private, she would disdain me as a monster and even resort to violence.

Her festering resentment, stemming from the obliteration of her former village by a cohort of half-vampires, led her to resent my serene existence as an adopted scion of the Duke’s household.

She voiced a medley of objections, articulating her displeasure with my comfortable life amidst the Duke’s family, especially given my half-vampire nature, juxtaposed with her village’s tragic fate.

She directed unwarranted hatred at me solely for being a half-vampire. In contrast to her smiling façade around others, I found her far more monstrous.

After Lady Elina witnessed an instance of abuse and informed the Duke, the tutor was apprehended.

What happened next?

However, bear in mind that the actions against a member of the Duke’s family, even if adopted, went beyond a simple dismissal and warranted a more substantial penalty.

Nevertheless, following this incident, due to the Duke’s determined that I could no longer stay in the other world.

Therefore, I relocated to a residence on Earth based on his suggestion.

Earth provided a sanctuary where persecution of half-vampires didn’t exist, and the thoughtful consideration to enable me to attend school was appreciated.

Given my original origins on Earth, life there was comfortable.

Walking outside freely was liberating, and since I had been taught by tutors, schooling was not a concern. Making friends wasn’t an issue, and everything was going smoothly.

But one day, a shift occurred, and a distance grew between me and my friends.

You can probably guess why, right?

It was because they found out I was a half-vampire.

It’s not strange for parents to be wary of an otherworldly child attending an Earth school, so it’s not unreasonable for them to distance their children to ensure their safety.

To some extent, this is a better outcome than overt bullying or persecution.

Of course, it’s simply because attacking or spreading rumors about a Duke’s child carries inevitable consequences.

Nevertheless, I decided to tell my close friends myself, driven by a desire to not part ways due to this incident.

I told them that despite being a half-vampire, I’m still the same person, an Earthling. I hoped they would treat me as a human, but do you know how they responded?

⟪ ──”If you wanted to be treated like a human, maybe you shouldn’t have become a half-vampire in the first place.”⟫

It was such a shock that it felt like the ground beneath me crumbled.

Though they were unaware of my near-death experience, those words struck deeply, denying my identity.

The damage inflicted on our friendship was immeasurable.

The wound was engraved even deeper due to the affection that was once shared.

Feared as a minion of the Demon Lord in the other world and shunned as inhuman on Earth.   In the midst of such circumstances, I ceased to expect anything from others.

At that point, it seemed wiser to push everyone away and only trust my family.

I also altered my behavior in the Duke’s household.

Grateful for the Scarlet family saving my life and accepting me as family, I decided to serve them.

Lady Elina and Lady Silvinia advised against it, but my unyielding determination led them to accept me as a maid in the mansion.

Honestly, I had considered standing on my own feet after securing some earnings.

Continuously harboring a half-vampire like me would be detrimental to the Duke’s family, I thought.

Now, I have no intention of leaving. I understand that I am cherished by the Scarlet family, and I don’t want to cause them unnecessary sadness.

And so, while serving as a maid in the Duke’s household and managing my studies, my days began, leading me to where I am now.⟧
