I Transmigrated Into a Villain and All the Heroines in This Novel Have Systems?

Chapter 18:

Chapter 18:

“Finding hidden treasures is already lucky enough once. There’s no way you can keep getting lucky every time.”

Chen Jirong was clearly not convinced by Lin Chuan’s explanation and continued to insist on his point. “The gap between you and Lin Hai is too big. You can’t possibly close it just by picking up a few undervalued antiques.”

“Grandpa Chen…”

“Just listen to me for once.”

Seeing that Lin Chuan was still reluctant, Chen Jirong softened his tone. “I’m not doubting your abilities. Getting married is just an extra layer of security. If you can defeat Lin Hai with your own skills, that would be great. But even if you can’t, at least you’ll have a way out. What do you think?”

Lin Chuan knew that if he didn’t agree, this old man would keep nagging him endlessly.

“Grandpa Chen is right. I’ll find a way to settle things with Lu Chaoge.”

“That’s more like it.”

Chen Jirong nodded in satisfaction. “Ah, Xiao Chuan, you’ve really grown up. You never used to listen to me like this before.”

Lin Chuan scratched his head and smiled. “I was immature back then. I won’t be like that anymore.”

Now that the serious conversation was over, Chen Jirong pulled Lin Chuan into the kitchen and took out a thermal food container. “I made a few dishes myself. Try them and see if they suit your taste.”

“Wow, old man, you even hid the food? Were you planning not to give me any if I didn’t agree with you?” Lin Chuan teased.

“Of course. Only obedient kids get to eat my food. If you don’t listen, you won’t get a bite.”

Chen Jirong took out the dishes, which were simple homemade meals.

Lin Chuan quickly grabbed a pair of chopsticks, took a bite, and immediately praised, “Delicious, really delicious.”

Chen Jirong looked at him with a warm smile.

He truly hoped that Lin Chuan could take over the Lin family.

Unfortunately, this kid had been playful and undisciplined since childhood—he wasn’t cut out for business.

Now, with Lin Hai as a competitor, his chances were even slimmer.

All he could do was hope that Lin Chuan would marry Lu Chaoge soon so he could rest easy.

After Lin Chuan finished eating, Chen Jirong didn’t stay any longer and got up to leave.

“Grandpa Chen, wait a moment.”

Lin Chuan suddenly stopped him, ran to the cloakroom, and found a loose wool coat. He hurried back and personally draped it over Chen Jirong’s shoulders.

“Grandpa Chen, the weather is getting colder. Take care of yourself. I’ll visit you whenever I have time.”

“Alright.”

Chen Jirong’s eyes were filled with surprise.

Lin Chuan had never shown this kind of care before.

The boy had truly grown up.

As he turned and got into the car, a single tear slid down the corner of his eye.

Lin Chuan watched his car drive away before turning back toward the villa.

As he passed by the bodyguard named Wen Qiang, he suddenly stopped. “Wen…”

“Wen Qiang.” Wen Qiang quickly reported his name again.

“Come inside with me.” Lin Chuan spoke before stepping into the villa first.

Wen Qiang was momentarily stunned but quickly snapped out of it and followed.

When he entered the living room, he saw Lin Chuan sitting on the sofa, one leg crossed over the other.

“Young Master, what do you need from me?” Wen Qiang bowed slightly as he asked.

“How long have you been working for the Lin family?” Lin Chuan asked casually.

“I’ve been with the Lin family for over three years, serving by the master’s side. A week ago, I was reassigned to protect you, Young Master.”

“Three years, that’s quite some time.” Lin Chuan sized him up. “So, I assume you’re completely loyal to my father?”

Wen Qiang’s eyes flickered slightly. “I am now serving you, Young Master. My loyalty is solely to you.”

Lin Chuan chuckled. “You sure know how to talk.”

Wen Qiang quickly reaffirmed his stance. “Every word I say comes from the heart. If you give me an order, Young Master, I’d climb mountains of blades and walk through boiling oil without hesitation.”

“Really?”

“Absolutely.”

This was exactly what Lin Chuan had been waiting for. He immediately perked up. “I have an important task for you. I hope you won’t refuse.”

Wen Qiang hesitated for a moment. Why did it feel like he was stepping into a trap?

But since he had already sworn his loyalty, he couldn’t back out now.

“Please instruct me, Young Master. No matter the mission, I will complete it at all costs.”

Lin Chuan nodded in satisfaction and patted the seat next to him. “Come, sit.”

“I dare not.”

“Just sit. I already consider you one of my trusted aides, yet you’re still treating me like an outsider?” Lin Chuan frowned slightly.

Wen Qiang had no choice but to sit down, though he only perched on the edge, clearly feeling uneasy.

Lin Chuan glanced at him and sighed. “Wen Qiang, do you know that I’m facing a huge problem right now?”

Wen Qiang shook his head. “Please enlighten me, Young Master.”

Lin Chuan picked up an orange from the fruit tray, peeled it, and handed half to Wen Qiang.

Wen Qiang hesitantly took it.

As Lin Chuan popped a piece into his mouth, he sighed, “You must have heard of Lin Hai, right?”

Wen Qiang’s eyebrows twitched. “I… I have.”

“What do you think of him?” Lin Chuan deliberately threw him a difficult question.

A fierce look flashed across Wen Qiang’s face. “He’s just a bastard child, yet he dares to compete for the family inheritance? He’s overestimating himself!”

“Young Master, do you want me to take care of him? Don’t worry, I will—”

“You misunderstood.” Lin Chuan raised his hand to stop him. “No matter what, he’s been acknowledged by my father. If I want to beat him, I’ll do it fair and square. I won’t stoop to dirty tricks.”

“Young Master is truly noble-hearted. You are the rightful heir of the Lin family!” Wen Qiang immediately flattered him.

But Lin Chuan let out another long sigh. “Still, Lin Hai is really formidable. If I fight him head-on, I have no chance of winning. Do you know why Butler Chen came today?”

“I don’t know.” Wen Qiang quickly shook his head.

“He came to persuade me to give up the competition against Lin Hai and marry Lu Chaoge as soon as possible. That way, at least I’d have a fallback option.” Lin Chuan didn’t hide anything from him.

Hearing this insider information, Wen Qiang became even more nervous.

Lin Chuan glanced at him. “But I refuse to give up so easily. Why should I? Lin Hai is just a bastard child, and he dares to compete for the Lin family’s inheritance? Does he even deserve it?”

“Yes, yes, absolutely!” Wen Qiang quickly echoed his words.

Lin Chuan dropped his resentful expression and looked at him seriously. “That’s why I have a mission for you. This mission is crucial to my survival. No matter what, you must help me complete it.”

Wen Qiang immediately stood up. “Please command me, Young Master! I will risk my life if necessary and never betray your trust!”

Lin Chuan smiled in satisfaction and then revealed a mission that left Wen Qiang utterly shocked.

“I want you to go undercover beside Lin Hai.”
